    Della has become one of my most favorite characters in the Ducktales reboot. Seeing her develop as a parent is intriguing and I love how she and Dewey are now best buds. Having them singing that song from "A Goofy Movie" was a nice bonus. Of course Glomgold was his lovable hammy self, and Ludwig von Drake's videos were a real treat.

    Apart from the Wonderful World of Color references, one of my favorite callbacks in this episode, albeit a morbid one was Von Drake mentioning as a possible Doomsday scenario was their world being overrun by hairless apes i.e. humans. In a Darkwing Duck that involved time travel, we see the dinosaurs had become anthropomorphic and offhandedly mentioning how they effectively made early man in their timeline.

    I love your reviews, and this was no exception. The only thing I think would be interesting to add, is how Scrooge was uneasy with Della impulsiveness, not thinking about the consequences of her actions even after returning from the moon. At the least, this is what he was thinking until she lead everyone to escape from the situation, surprising him by knowing the exit (that she previously learned after paying attention to the map in his presentation). It was nice seeing the show addressing Scrooge's struggles with Della personality, as he quickly jumped into assuming she was still the same "kid" Della.

    Della Duck is actually a really good character to explore more adult topics with family, like being a roll model for new or expecting mothers to show that being a mother can be difficult and might feel like they aren't the best possible person for being a mother but they will be fine by adapting and learning whilst experiencing being a mother.

  • @AtarahDerek
    @AtarahDerek Před 5 lety +8

    My prediction for future episodes with Della:
    With Dewey, she takes a bit of a hands off approach to parenting because Dewey is a confident, independent adventurer like herself. But in her one-on-one ep with Huey, she'll swing to the opposite extreme. Not because she doesn't think he's confident or independent, but because their ep will take place in the context of a Junior Woodchuck outing, and Della's enthusiasm will get the better of her, leading her to kind of take over everything and smother Huey a little bit. She'll have to learn to let him be the brains of the operation, and how to rein herself in.
    Della's one-on-one ep with Louie will present her toughest challenge yet, because she and Louie have the hardest time forging a strong bond. Louie is extremely analytical, but also has all of Donald's reluctance to get himself needlessly caught up in adventure. So he will put up the most resistance to anything Della wants to do, because he knows it'll be dangerous. After some death defying shenanigans in which the two of them discover just how clever they both are, Della will learn that it's okay to have calmer interests, and that she can just as effectively employ her strategy skills in a heated board or puzzle game against Louie, while also bonding with him (just don't let Scrooge play). Maybe the two of them will do an escape room together or something.

    I do also like how this episode shows how Della has grown. Not just as a parent, but as a person. With Scrooge's frustration at Della taking Dewey on a reckless adventure being no different from when she stole the Spear of Selene. At first this seems fair enough, but all of that time alone, trying to survive and get home, did teach her to think her actions through. While the previous episode showed her faults, this episode showed how she's changed for the better. Having an escape plan by paying attention to Scrooge's presentation, using the money tree to fix the vault. This episode shows that Della is resourceful and while she still wants to jump into adventure, is more cautious then she used to be. It's a great trait that I can't wait to see how it's portrayed in future episodes.

    With Powerline now being canon, we better have a Goof Troop crossover. Maybe that Roxanne looking girl really is Roxanne. Maybe we could see Peg again. And they've established Spoonerville as an actual city on this show. Also, there was the Sport Goofy in Soccermania special that was pretty much the original Ducktales pilot.

    • @Kelaiah01
      @Kelaiah01 Před 5 lety +2

      I have a theory that that "Roxeanne-looking girl" is actually Roxanne's mother. Why? Because if we're going to have a Goof Troop reboot, then Max and his friends should be in the same age group as Huey/Dewey/Louie/Webby. I'd love to see an 11-year-old Max crushing on 11-year-old Roxanne, who always seems so far away, and he's always going out of his way trying to impress her, while learning the tired old tale that he doesn't need to do all that stuff (though I hope he learns that he should try being the "best version" of himself; that was a good lesson in "The Dangerous Chemistry of Gandra Dee").
      I'd also have a Goof Troop reboot include 11-year-old versions of Bobby, Stacy and the Beret-wearing girl (from "Extremely Goofy Movie"), that way both Max and Roxanne belong to their own respective trio groups. I'd also make Max's cousin Debbie more of a regular.

    Meanwhile I'm over here like: "Oh boy, Ludwig von Drake's Spectrum Song, I love that song!"
    Also, I love how Dewey, who was the most gungho about having Della as his mom, is finally having reservations about this relationship, not so much because of her, but because he feels he can't live up to her expectations. Meanwhile, Della's having a moment all parents have of seeing their children in mortal danger and wanting to protect them, or at least not be as reckless as they would be. In the end, they both reconcile and Della reassures Dewey that she's proud of him no matter what, like all parents ought to be.
    And Glomgold is still Glomgold, and I feel like Zan Owlson has almost had it with him... Not to mention, am I the only one who thinks Ludwig von Drake's recordings are more than just recordings? The way he reacted to Della hitting the buttons and him drawing out the countdown makes me think he's not quite as dead as we all think he is.

Rather than being some annoying Mary Sue who is always right or perfect at everything. I don't about you guys but I rather prefer a flawed female character rather than a perfect female character in my opinion. This is a bold and interesting development. The shadowy figure of "Della Duck" (sometimes called Donald's cousin, sometimes his sister) has been referenced ever since the 1940s as the mother of the triplets. A very few comics also gave us glimpses of her. But here, for the FIRST TIME EVER IN ANY MEDIUM, does Della return to the Duck family in the "present" to resume some kind of parental role in relation to the triplets, and with the prospect of becoming a main character. The comics never dared do something that would shake up the "status quo" to such an extent. This is revolutionary.
    I just wonder, can they forever avoid the next question, who the FATHER of the triplets is? Since it seems all but certain that the kids were hatched out of wedlock, maybe hysterically family-friendly Disney values dictate that we just don't discuss this subject.

In my opinion, I wouldn't want him to end up being another immortal character like Scrooge's parents becuase I'll honestly find that a bit creepy and ridiculous.

    Ludwig Von Drake was one of my favorite characters and elements of the original Ducktales, and one of the only parts of the lore that breaks my heart about the new DuckTales is that he is apparently already passed on. Getting to spend so much time with him and his videos and the good old "well obviously" insanity was nice, and I hope we get to see more of the Whacky Professor (little me had actually conflagrated Von Drake and Gearloose so much that I thought they were one character oops :x) I also really like how they showed Della still being Della (and all the things she has in common with her kids) and more of Scrooge's old experiences with her. But they still showed how her trauma and experience on the moon has changed how Della sees things as well. I really appreciate this show for not only showing growth but sticking with it consistently through every episode. And with so much emphasis on how Della has to figure out how to live with the Duck family she's been absent from for 10 years, it also shows that Scrooge and the people that knew her before are going to have to get to know Della all over again as well. It's a 2 way street :) Della has to get to know them, but they have to get to know the new Della too.

    I just realized that each episode that she was with the kids had 3 key things an good parent has to have:
    Dewey: the motherly instinct to save her child.
    Huey: the ability to make one’s child reach higher potential and learning it that it’s good to fail sometimes.
    Louie: the gut to put limits on your child... especially if he almost destroyed time and space because he wanted to get rich.

    They deweyed it again!
    Okay, i love all those small Goof Troop and Darkwing references (never herad the color song in english, but I knew the melody and could remember the song Gosalyn/Kiki sang in the german dub - at age 28, sad, i know) in the newest episode s02e13 and the side story and Scrooges outburst, what a headstrong kid Della was and still is.
    But this season should focus on Louie, and this is the second episode already (out of 13!) that is only about Dewey - again!
    Okay, I get it Ducktales Crew: you love the blue child more, maybe because he’s the most adventurous, maybe because he is voiced by Ben Schwartz or whatever reason you have but I personally hate it so much, that Dewey is not only the most attention seeking kid out of the tree, but also that he gets the most screen time since the start.
    I want family adventures. I want Huey, Dewey and Louie together with Scrooge, with Della. Not that this middle child, who constantly thinks he has to proof himself to be more worth than his brothers is just annoying.
    They are triplets, and I think it would be only fair that his brothers would get the same thoughtfulness, don’t you agree?
    And on a side note: why is Della alone with Dewey. Don’t you think, that the Huey and Louie will be either really pissed or hurt, that their mom, who is back after such a long time, is only traveling with Dewey? Not good, really not good.

  • @theumpireofthebottomlesspit

    Okay, am I seriously the only one who was really happy to see that Scrooge FINALLY called out Della in this episode? Also, I'm really surprised that he actually care more about his family than that stupid money tree. The truth is when I had originally heard about the competition Scrooge and Glamgold we’re having that was going to decide who would get both companies based solely on how much money they made in a year I was worried that the big season finale was going to be that they found out about Della on the moon but building a rocket to go get her with me and Scrooge would lose the bet. And I’m glad that they didn’t even hint at such a thing there’s just something I was worried it was going into becoming
