      Despite the... "other" rendition being my first exposure to it... this IS very nostalgic. Me, I'm impressed at how WELL they went at it, properly matching up lyrics to a preexisting piece of music is harder than it sounds, ESPECIALLY if you insist on having said lyrics be sensible. For them to actually be PROFOUND in any sense? This is the sort of thing that only my absolute favorites of modern western animation can do, with only Gravity Falls and MLP:FiM sharing the position!

    This episode changed my perspective of Della as a character. Before this episode, I always thought that she may have stolen the rocket for selfish reasons; one last Joyride before having to deal with being a parent. But now I think that she probably boarded that rocket so that she would have a story to tell her boys. Instead of her main flaw being selfishness, it turned out to be impulsivity. Interesting.

  • @MerelyAFan
    @MerelyAFan Před 5 lety +75

    Its interesting how this episode demonstrated the contrasting reactions Donald and Della to things going wrong and the kind of resulting self sabotage.
    Donald constantly has rotten luck and in the 10 years he raised the triplets, was doubt dealing with things going wrong in some way or another from the the houseboat to various jobs, etc. His resulting temper makes things even worse and we see from the various tantrums that Donald struggles to handle the every day bad luck he constantly gets. But in the critical times like the Shadow War episode he steps up and not only powers through his own natural misfortune but outright crafts/executes effective plans and spearheads the effort to rescue Scrooge and stop Magica.
    Della's success in adventuring certainly demonstrates how skilled she was and from what we seen of her before the space trip, didn't seem as prone to Donald's outbursts at bad luck. Her patience and continued optimism even after 10 years on the moon certainly demonstrate her determination. However its the most important moments where a clear head and focus is most necessary is when Della's impulsiveness and rage comes out and she ends up putting herself in a far worse position than before. Even the act of taking the Spear of Selene was itself her giving in to her emotions at the worst possible time.
    For all of Donald's personality quirks, in the big crisis events he rises above his occasional shortsighted thinking and emerges as a cool headed hero with greater ease than even Della manages at points.

    I've watched it a dozen times now. The moon theme has been part of my life for almost 30 years now. I nearly snapped my own neck convulsing in joy when it popped into the episode and that didn't stop till the end when we got to hear lyrics. I still bawl at the words, brimming with a mother's love and wanting to give the world to her kids. I hope they release more lyrics for the other half of the tune.
    The level of care shown by the creative team is so wonderful. They found the best way to introduce the character to us, flaws and all, and they made me fall in love with a song I hold on my phone all over again. By paying homage to the family's history in all its forms, they have trailblazed a new path and made the Duck family's--and our own--lives richer for it.

Most likely Scrooge took money out of his own bin not just to afford the construction of all the rockets, but to power them as well.

    For me I see the DuckTales 2017 cast take on the moon level, maybe even an invasion episode. Maybe this is what happened during the first 6 months(season 1) to Della and we know she still stayed on the wreckage of her ship even though she could have asked help from the moon people, maybe they had a falling out with each other? Who knows.

    I really didn’t like how they revealed that Della was still alive. I’m sure it had to be like this for story purposes, but having her “out of the picture” was kind of the main point of the rift that formed in the family. It’s the reason why The Last Crash of the Sunchaser is my favorite episode. Also, the reveal was ruined for me when my friend accidentally revealed it in the most unsubtle way possible.

    To me honest, the nitpicker in me still finds it relatively hard to believe that nobody noticed Della, her spaceship, or that "Moon Mite" for 10 years. Sure one of the spaceships Scrooge sent out failed to notice her and dismissed the dustcloud kicked up by her and the mite as a meteorite crashing into the moon's surface, but... you know, telescopes are a thing. Photographs from space, even? It doesn't look like she crashed on the dark side of the moon, it looked like she was constantly facing the Earth so... Ah, whatever, it's not even that big of a contrivance, it's just frustrating is all... especially when those moon people reveal there was an entire civilization she didn't know about and they didn't bother helping her until 10 years after impact (and her helping them, too), but if Penumbra's reaction to her is anything to go by, they're pretty xenophobic towards "Earthers".
    Also, from what I can tell, Jake Kaufman, the composer for DuckTales Remastered, was credited for the use of the Moon theme used in this episode but not the original composer, Hiroshige Tonomura. How unfortunate. :(

    I love the Moon Theme! It's awesome that they have plucked material from so many branches of the Duck franchise while making this series. This is how reboots should be done, respecting the past while exploring new ground. It's a shame they didn't credit the original Japanese composer from Capcom, Hiroshige Tonomura. It's pretty neat that modern DuckTales represents the work of artists from all over the world over the last 80+ years.

    Also, don't feel bad about your theory being disproven. Mine was too.
    I had theorized that after Della crashed on the moon, she stumbled upon the Moon Vault where the "Green Cheese of Longevity" was stored, and had been eating it the entire time to sustain herself.
    I thought of it as an clear reference to the NES video game. But hey, the Oxy-Chew was also a mentioned item in the Remastered game. So I'm glad we got VG references regardless. XD
