Have a look at Alesana and Manu Tuilagi being interviewed together. Manu with his English Midlands accent and monosyllabic responses, Alesana’s so articulate in contrast. The older Tuilagi brothers speak well too. I don’t think it’s Manu’s fault, seems he’s been overly media-trained by the RFU - “yeah, it’s nice, the boys did their best, etc” - they really need to piss off and let players express themselves and expose their natural personalities.

It must be like being hit by a truck at a combined speed of over 30 mph! No bleating to the ref, they just get up and carry on. Amazing. Even after tackles that would put most of us in hospital, they get up and occasionally high 5 the guy that took them down. That's sport. For a game that seems pretty, no, very brutal, there's a respect and intellect that seems to be lacking in other...erm...ball games. Imagine someone weighing 18 stone coming at you at about 20 mph....I'd be in traction for a year after the 1st hit and these guys do it over and over again for an hour and a half. Incredible.

I grew up around a family of Tongans who had just moved from the Island to Canada. They were a great bunch of people. Even the adults had an almost childlike joy and happiness to them. I went to some very interesting pig roasts with those families. Big guys, tended to run a bit toward chubby but legs like tree trunks. Good memories.
