A student of mine is doing "Unforgiven" and "Nothing else matters" on the Ukulele. Sounds surprisingly well, especially with an added rhythm guitar.
Oh gee wow it sounds good on guitar?
@@justincoleman3805 Try unforgiven here and tell me what you think! czcams.com/video/obguFYiw0V4/video.html
Nothing Else Matters is also on there but yeh, they sound amazing!
As a person who grew up in Honolulu and loves Metallica, I feel like this video is totally relevant to my life. I am actually wanting to get the ukulele I had as a kid from my brother’s house so I can try this!!
i NEVER thought I'd be headbanging to ukulele stuff as much as i did in this video, but i loved the vid, mike! 🤘🔥
You should check out Rob Scallon
Slayer on ukelele
Clearly you’ve never watched TheDoooo.
3:06 when you're singing and you have to change octaves for the notes outside of your pitch range
I remember I had a tiny ukelele like that. My dad gave it to me when I was like 5 or something, and it looked gigantic to me. It felt like staring up at a huge ukelele-shaped statue. Now that I'm much older, Looking at the ukelele I'm like "bruh this is smaller than my breakfast"
Meanwhile korean kids play real guitars at that age 🥵
@@neonbelly4 Yeah, i remember seeing videos of small kids orchestra playing some classical stuff on guitars, they looked gigantic with them
I suppose nothing a classical posture and a little time can't fix
It looks like you chose a soprano ukulele, I think a tenor might have given you a better tone and playability. You will also have a broader selection of linear strings low G rather than reentrant tuning standard on ukes.
100% agree.
I have a soprano with 5ths tuning strings on it and it is way heavier sounding....
Agree
Imagine if Megadeth made one.............
Imagine a Metallica video with no mention of Megadeth. 🤪🥴
@@MikeysMorgue That's like a Kirk Hammett video with no mention of wah, obviously 🤪
@@MikeysMorgue i guess it's impossible
Then we'd be in trouble my friend XD
@@MikeysMorgue Golly yes! Haven't some people got better things to do with their time than always mentioning Megadeth? If you like 'em so much, go comment below a Dystopia or Th1rth3en video jeez!
Nice, do a mandolin next please!! I bet you could do a whole album on one and it would sound great! I would get some electric ones, a banjo, a mandolin and an electric ukulele.
Mandolin isn't getting the love it deserves
Given the Ukuleles tonal restrictions (and it being at least an Octave too high compared to Guitar), I thought this was pretty cool. The songs are recognizable and “fun”, which is why the Uke is such a fun instrument.
It's not an octave higher. At the high range it's about the same as an electric guitar, it just doesn't have the lower part of the range.
Oh, what fun! Mike, I noticed that you discovered that inverting the 5ths on the ukulele helps fatten the chords. Dropping the C string a 1/2 step to B also works well for many songs in the keys of E and E minor, as well as B and many others. Cheers from the Green Bay Ukulele Club!
I love your channel Mike. This was lots of fun!
8:46 That pic of James with the big ukulele is going to haunt my mind forever, haha.
This was really cool! Always fun to hear something so familiar played in a wacky fashion
"You remember fun don't you? You're suppose to enjoy it!" Great stuff, greatly enjoyed. Thank you.
Thank you Mike for inspiring me take out my ole Uke that I have and play it again. Its actually a lot of fun. 🤘🎸
interesting and funny, kept smiling though whole video :). And you play so good this tiny ukulele.
I love all of the songs normally, and while none sound better on uke, they all sound pretty good. My reaction to a lot of the riffs was that I thought they sounded “cuter” and “tingier.” Fade to black’s solo sounded a lot happier as well
Advice: You need a low g string on that uke. Perhaps also wound strings. Also, if you had an acoustic-electric uke, you could plug into an amp to use distortion and other pedals to help with sustain and the tone.
Awesome vid Mike 👍
I’m surprised that The Call Of Ktulu didn’t make it in. It is fun to play on ukulele, and sounds pretty good on it.
Okay I started cracking up hearing the machine-gun riff from One, way too happy sounding 😂
I love this video keep up the good work
Loved the machine gun part. Also thanks for that little taste of traditional Korean music
Great video! I have the Uke Can Play Led Zeppelin book. It's pretty fun to play even though the tiny frets make it a challenge.
"little flameco there for you in the end" soo relatable, made my day
The interlude to master of puppets sounds great on the uke too🤘
Man, I'd love to hear that with distortion. A uke, with a pickup and distorted would be awesome, maybe.....
This actually made me really wanna pick up a uke again.
I thought all the originally-acoustic lines sounded good on Ukulele..
Fade To Black, One, The Unforgiven, Sad But True and Wherever I May Roam are my favourites.
The heavy parts of Wherever I May Roam and For Whom The Bell Tolls sound really good - the former as it has a Flamenco vibe and the latter as it sounds entertaining :0
This was a great video idea!
Nice video! I try to translate heavy music on my uke, some songs can be played smoothly in the original tuning, others have to be transported to another key.
Just low key dropping he plays guitar, drums, keyboard, violin and cello like it's nbd.
Mike you know we need a violin video now, right?
Surprised you didnt go over Orion (if the book even had it). StateofMercury did a mini cover of the interlude part and I think it sounded awesome
Very impressive like always :D.
Awesome vid!
I love Metallica and it is inspiring me to learn to play my Ukelele. I want to play these songs! Thanks for the book referral.
If you swap the high G string for Low G string you get better sound (more like a guitar) and it will give you 5 more notes that you wont get with the hig G string.
Electric ukeleles have a lot more options for playing these songs also.
Your videos rule!! Thanks!!
As a guitar player when I play ukelele i use these things called low g strings, basically the string become arranged the way a guitar would though it’s tuned to like g standard still makes it easy and fun though
Have you heard of the baritone ukulele? It is actually the top 4 strings on the guitar d g b and e. Plus the sound those make is awesome. I love the baritone lol
That was cool man
Aloha 🌺 try the baritone or concert you will love it.
They do say that metal without distortion sounds a lot like surf music so perhaps this video reinforces that idea...
Kirk Hammett be like "What, no wah?" ;)
Black metal is probably the closest one to sounding like surf rock (without distortion) i was pleasantly surprised XD
I think that only applies to black metal
@@it0moribasket799 There's a video (or actually a series of videos) by Paranormal Guitar Channel called "Metal Without Distortion" (at czcams.com/video/dVqqWUyDPzA/video.html) that discusses this whole idea. In the video he plays Slayer (thrash metal), Pantera (groove metal), and Cannibal Corpse (death metal) as just some examples without distortion. Check it out if you'd like :) (Also sorry to Mike for somewhat promoting this video on his channel)
@@DanzoSrife Sounds more like punk
sounds cool. i saw a video where these guys played metallica on a cello. seen someone play slayer on banjo.
Hey Mike. Can you do some maybe black metal or crust tutorials? I think the theory side of things for that would be super interesting.
I really like clean guitar, so for me almost everything you played sound good
Very fun video
Dude you need to try a solid body steel string electric uke - Flight Pathfinder, Risa Electric, or anything by Fanner Electric Ukulele - they will blow your mind
Dang - I was hoping you'd play To live is to die - it's one of my favorite metallica songs.
I like it. Sounds interesting, I don't have any access to a ukelele.
Nice choice of songs.
"Twisted music box" lol
This was a fun vid
My daughter loves metallica....and plays a ukulele and i play guitar....this is gonna be fun lol
Sounded pretty good
Banger video
I bought a uke about a week ago. I've learned Psychosicial and Wait and Bleed
So as I was waiting to watch this a yousician ad for Metallica songs came on ... weird ...nice video bro
when you played nothing else matters it reminded me the steve seagulls cover, you should check it out!
My wife got a uke in Hawaii. Once I figured out that the top 2 strings are E and A, I figured out most of these
Mike you rock.. even on a Uke!
I learned on the ukulele in intermediate school and transitioned to the guitar because I felt shredding on the ukulele just wasn’t enough for me. It’s still a really good instrument though and people like Jake Shimabukaro and Honoka and Azita can do some pretty amazing stuff on it.
edit: I wanted to mention that you should’ve gotten yourself a tenor ukulele as it’s bigger and more comfortable to play than the concert uke you have. Also, you should get yourself a string set with a low G so you have better range.
i really did not expect to see this video
Love it! Fresh!😊
Now I've seen everything!😆😆😆😆
I died when he said "no offense" to his ukulele 😆🤣
I love it! I like them all!
Great Akulele ... love it
My honest opinion. That machine gun part on One sounded the heaviest on this vid . Sounds awesome. I have a 19 fret ukulele which im going to try learning Metallica on . With ukulele it sounds all choppy in sound which makes it difficult. I play Metallica on electric and a bit of bass electric aswell .
Bleeding me and low man's lyric!! Try those!! Lol
It sounds cool
It sounds really good for some unplugged stuff.
What was the music played at 1:55 ?! That was actually pretty sweet
(Edit): I literally just found the video by searching Korean traditional music
Anything in the lower register sounds great.
Those are definitely cool.
Reminds me of the banjo slayer video from back in the day
odd...I don't remember March of the SOD on Headbanger's Ball, but I do remember Chromatic Death and the crashing train footage in black & white. Not saying it wasn't, mind you, I guess just musing about my crappy memory lol
I wonder if you could tune it differently, like to D standard, i.e. like a guitar but without the A and low E strings. Not exactly the most revolutionary thing in the world, but given its medium to high pitched nature he may be good for licks and harmonies.
Ukulele Fade to Black is the soundtrack to being very sad on the beach with a Pina Colada.
My favorites honestly where sad but true and the unforgiven
Probably just saved me $100. Thanks!
I would like to hear Through the Never I think it would sound cool on the uke
Whichever ones have a clean guitar or acoustic sounds great on uke
There's a girl on YT that owns it on Ukulele. Her yt is Taimane and she's done some crazy stuff on Ukulele.
I just wanna say hell yeah!
Y'know there IS such thing as steel stringed electric Ukuleles? Right? Try these songs with them and add a few pedal or more and an amp and you'll be golden!
PS: As a Metallica fan who also lives in Hawai'i AND have two electric ukes, I'm going to try find this book, and learn them uke style.
Cool video Mike but you didn't downpick MOP! LOL
Sesrch for MK Ukulele Academy (or maybe MK Fingerstyle Academy) and check out his version of Nothing Else Matters. Its so fuckin good.
Most of these probably could have sounded better on a low g tenor uke rather than that high g concert. Or I'd bet the baritone would be really good.
Still great playing though! Loved the video. Ive seen that book in the library and have wondered if it was any good, so thanks!
Jump in the Fire is finger gymnastics.
I wonder if a tenor Uke would sound better or even an proper electric Uke !
You Rock 🤘
Is that a sign from a Robotron cabinet on the floor?
You need a tenor uke my dude, I have the same problem playing concert size or smaller. I normally play bass lmao
Haha, great video 👍
I cant wait to grab me a "necrophagist ukelele tab book"
I don't have morbid curiosity. I have morbin curiosity
it sounds good, I must say
Give some uke lesson soon please
Intro to Sandman sounds more haunting
Luna Lee does kick ass rock covers on her gayageum.
I thought the tapping part of the solo in One sounded great 👍👍
Would be cool to hear this on an electric ukelele.
Try it again on a baritone uke ?
imagin it with an electric ukulele and an amp ... would be cool
yooooooooooooooooooo nice uke bud
