It's truly inspiring to see someone with genuine talent milking a single instrument for all the value it can generate. This was fantastic.
Beyond his genius musical talents, he is also a fantastic videographer! Recording engineer, paid spokesmen, his list of talents goes on and on, I bet his women says he’s the best ever! It really hurts my self esteem 😢, but I love his work, and watch every video he makes!!

Bass is now a state of being.

@@teebob21 well done sir
Have you seen a stank face? Bass has always been a state of being. 😂
Now I know why dubstep always dropped the bass...
As someone who has a friend who plays ukulele, I can confirm they will not be stopped in their endeavor to turn the world into ukulele music
I feel called out tbh
He looks like Conan O’Brien in the thumbnail (no offense)
I want this on Spotify. You are such a great composer
If you found it, please share a link mate.
I want this on Apple Music, but if you have the spoty link or name, please hit me up with that
Yo, anyone found it?
Make an entire metal song with a triangle
🤣 That would be a challenge
That's such an original idea, that would require some really clever tricks to get the job done. I'm all for it!
@@CharlesBerthoud Hey ! It IS a challenge !
@@CharlesBerthoud actually is not a big deal because as you can see, triangles are full made by metal
Hahaha this is a challenge!!!
Casual 'Gold Play Button' flex. I'm entirely into it. 👌
We want to see the diamond one
Yes, congrats. Well deserved!
FTW!
Sending bill for new keyboard since I did a spit take at that part
I'm this comment 1000th like
Musically, that's a masterpiece. A lot of those "making a song for a video" songs turn out to be mediocre and forgettable in about 10s. This, though... Mate, I'm coming back each day to headbang to a freakin ukulele!
That was some great work. I don't want to assume anyone's musical or editing knowledge, but I feel like that took a ton more work than is immediately obvious. Really cool.
I’ve been a musician my whole life, and this is absolute fire. You’re going to get a lot of re-watches out of me.
Pretty much blows away anyone who complains that their instrument prevents them from making good music. Your dedication to your craft never fails to impress.
Yes, it isn't the instrument but their ability to use digital audio workstation software to create the sound they want.
There *is* truth about cheaply made instruments stopping good music. *Many* a cheap acoustic was built with high string action (string height.) This increases string tension, and if bad enough, it makes strings not play in tune. But even worse, if it's a steel string acoustic with *dramatically* high action, it can gradually collapse the neck joint.*
*I have a damaged mid 1930s Sears Steel String Acoustic. Though its damage is probably from storage neglect in a basement or attic (it looks like it got wet, but wasn't dunked in water,) it's an example because the entire guitar is warped from tension over years. The neck joint collapsed, the soundhole area warped (going into the body,) the wood near the bridge & tailpiece (where the strings go on the body end) has sort of beer-bellied out in the opposite direction of the soundhole warping.
Also, if someone puts *steel strings* on a *_Classical_** Acoustic,* the higher tension can collapse a neck joint (and do worse.) Classical Acoustics are for *nylon strings* which have lower string tension (80 lbs) than Steel Strings (I don't know offhand how much tension would be for a 6 string, but a 12 string would have 200 lbs, so a 6 string would be somewhere in-between 80 and 200 lbs.) Unless you tune steel strings *much* lower than Standard E Tuning, well... I have another broken acoustic, a Classical Acoustic that previous owners did this to in ignorance. The neck joint collapsed, then half the top of the guitar ripped off from the glue joints.
I'm confident that both of these broken acoustics can be fixed, but they could have both been taken care of far better than they were *if* all previous owners knew better. The harder one to fix will be the 30s Sears guitar; the back should probably come off (it already started to come off from neglect,) the wood needs to be re-shaped with clamps and maybe jigs, and one will probably need to utilize higher than average humidity to make the wood pliable. This is not a fast process, if one wants to preserve the old paint.
...
But all of that said, you're right that cheap instruments can be good. They just can't be badly made. As an example for a cheap guitar being good, I have a Squier Bullet Strat from 2010 - 2014 that I got in a yard sale, and it plays pretty darn good. The only real problem was the tiny practice amp I got with it, which sounded bad; I can imagine it stunting a beginner's growth in music.
Edit: Corrected my mistake on string tension on an acoustic steel string neck. I was quoting the tension for a 12 string, not a 6 string.
indeed! dont blame the instrument, blame your lack of curiosity to create
I blame the lack of a band lol. (And my squire does sound shit lol. )
Fuck digital software lol. The age we live in isn't full of talent it's just generic programming... Which is becoming so boring. I'd rather actually hear him try shred on that ule bass raw without the software, it'd be funny as fuck 😂
There are not many people that can make me literally shout "What on earth are you" at them midway through a video on CZcams. You are literally incredible at what you do. Holy sh*t.
Surprisingly awesome, I really didn't expect it to sound that nice! Great song, great sounds, and as usual really well played!
Dude! Do an entire CD of this music PLEASE, I would buy it right now! I love this almost medieval sounding, movie soundtrack, dramatic music! I want more and I am willing to buy it if you make it available!
I agree. This is production ready imho. Lit!
This takes me back to some of the styles that Les Claypool used to do. I was blown away by this track.
worth checking out the soundtrack to the game Hades if you haven't, it's not far off
@@eskimojo14thefirst Thank's for the tip
i listen to his music on utoob music, no need for a cd. :)
Sounds like a Dream Theater instrumental.
It's awesome.
Do a whole album with just this instrument.
I was thinking Liquid Tension Experiment, but that’s just splitting hairs
exactly what I was thinking 😂
I was just about to post that it sounds like Dream Theater! but here it is in the second comment...
Sounds more like LTE crossed with Animals as leaders
Or, even better, different instruments for each song.
That bass part is amazing. Great editing and production mate.
Sounded very cool! Thanks for making this!
Up until now....I had no Idea there was such thing as a "ukulele bass!" I would have never guessed that it would be able to not only go as low as it does, but have a bass sound to it! My life is forever changed.....
It's mostly cuz of the unique strings. They're like super thick rubber bands. It allows it to get deep tones despite being so small. And it doesn't affect the feel of playing it either.
As much as I love the talent shown here, I cant help but think that drum track sounded oddly familiar
😂🤣💀 a person of culture I see.
Thank you! I was looking for a comment on that! I knew I couldn’t be the only one!
I thought that exact same thing
Came to the comments looking for this.
Lmao
That was my favorite thing I've seen on this channel! So incredible!!!
What an insanely good showpiece from your amazing skill set, bravo!! 🙌🙌🙌
Man, I was just playing Ukulele a little while ago haha. It's genuinely a fun and engaging instrument, and it's surprising how versatile (and memeworthy) it is in most genres.

He basically just poops this stuff out. That's how good he is.
Oh my God I really have to congratulate you for this one because you blew it over the top.
Not only the lead sounds that you crafted were creative but the song itself had a lot of interesting things.
Really good creative work and you are for sure pushing the boundaries of what bass guitar can achieve
Man, what a great vid! You're so talented. Just amazing
Only Charles could come up with something this incredible and amazing!!!!! He's going to have to follow this up with a complete rock album performed entirely on the Uke now!!!!!

It's a classic gentleman's tune, for that classy site where gentlemen discuss topics and share cake recipes among other things.

1.6 million subs already, well deserved Charles. Content like this is fantastic and you have awesome taste.
this is the only video on the website. thank you charles i liked this a lot
This deserves its release over spotify Charles ! Amazing work with that ukele (and the editing was 100% worth it)
Definitely!
Head banger absolutely.
The Tapocalypse(s) sounded suspiciously like classical music. Which means this is definitely metal.
You're a real piece of work CharlesBerthoud, a real piece of work... GREAT stuff!
Videos like this is why your channel stands out from other bass channels, this very original and it sounds surprisingly good.
Software is so good now you can basically construct a song from anything. It doesn't even have to be a musical instrument. That's not to say there isn't any skill required, because there absolutely is, but we can do things now that weren't possible even a decade ago. Pretty amazing.
The ingenuity cannot be ignored. He could turn an accordion into a metal banger. 🤟🔥
Don't dare him, he might actually pull that off
@@guihermeborracha7412 I wouldn’t be surprised! 😂
Challenge accepted...!
I'm sure Weird Al would give it a shot.
Have you heard of Folk Metal? There's A LOT of metal bands that use accordion.
That was brilliant! Thank you.
That was awesome dude. You never fail to impress.
Reminds me of a track made by "The Omnific", a band with 2 bassists and a drummer! Absolutely fantastic listening, was fun seeing the process too \o/
My first thought was it definitely sounded like the Omnific. Very similar tone in the snappy, snarly midrange. What Matt, Toby & Charles all have in common is that they're not only amazing with the bass, but great human beings.
Yeah, super huge The Omnific vibes.
What song?
This is awesome! I loved how you broke down how you did all this instead of it being just another awesome ukulele metal video. The riffs are totally evil, giving me Opeth vibes.
Charles, you never cease to amaze!
Ok. Friggin' WOW. Even watching the step by step, I can't believe how this turned out. Absolutely mind-blowing, man!
This is awesome. The bass guitar parts are amazing on this thing. This just randomly showed up in my feed, and I am blown away. Never even heard of this dude, but he is a beast.
I'm not really a metal guy but this is by far my favorite content you've ever made. KILLER song!
Incredible. The talent and effort is out of this world.

Hands down of the most innovative, talented, and technically impressive musicians of out time.
Honestly just amazing, amazing creativity. I would buy that in a heartbeat, love it 👍
WOW! That was a geat idea! I really liked the song!
The way you effortlessly toy with an entire genre of music is so amazing. Makes me want to get a Uke.
This is getting ridiculous. How someone could have that much talent...Slaptastic! Thank you for blessing my eardrums with this masterpiece 🔥🤘
Wow - what an ambitious project. 'Impressive composition and playing.
As always. You are amazing❤
Get yourself a Banjo Bass and play some Bela Fleck jazz fusion bluegrass on it!
I can't find any good banjo bass vids on youtube, you'd own the market.
On the other hand, banjo bass is also ideal for making the same kind of metal in this video, which worked out surprisingly well! Takes both great production and great performance chops to pull this off.
Now that could be interesting!!
@@CharlesBerthoud this was such a clean little bass uke; you made it sound FILTHY! A banjo bass would boggle my brain, another vote here!

Beyond outstand Charles! Once again you have managed to deliver both an instructional and entertaining video. Might be the best Metal tune I have heard in a few decades. It grooves.

Watching from Australia
I used to do the same thing in my old band Gohma but making my guitar make all sorts of different sounds that sound like a synth or creepy percussion sounds. It's a lot of fun! Pushing the limits of 1 instrument with the power of a computer.
And it's the Gohma from like 12 years ago, there is a newer gohma that is not us but they are good and heavy too! If you want to check it out.
This is so cool. Who knew you could make so many sounds with a u bass. Charles is so talented
You are so awesome bud. Truly talented you are.
You’re seriously talented!
I would love to see you try to play a brand new instrument, like saxophone or something! I would also love to see you shred on an upright bass lol
Upright would be very interesting!
A very impressive accomplishment! Thank you for showing us how it was done first. No deception, just electronic musical manipulations, so cool.

I think you are possibly the best musician. Full stop. Every video gives me chills.
I was already considering going for a u-bass and then you post this. Absolutely killer.
Lots of your videos make me want to hear more slap bass in metal. The snare sound you made was surpassingly good.
Your new best video imo. Bravo!
You checked 3 of my boxes: I love chip-tunes. It sounds much like a chip-tune. I love metal - it IS metal. I miss fresh music - this IS fresh, it is music, not just a short riff or demo. I really like where it's going. I stay tuned for more awesomeness :)
Sounds a bit like something from the Metal Slug series 😊
Wow this is waaaay better than I thought. It sounds amazing. Absolutely love it! You can definitely create songs like this and create an entire album. The sound is GREAT 👍 😎😎😎😃
You're just incredible man, one of the foremost musicians on the planet right now I think. Really really enjoyed the musicality on the tapocalypse.
