I love millionaires bitching and moaning about their vacant million pound buildings being used.
which by the way was in the middle of being sold don't know why you ddi9n't mention that but i guess its ok to lie because hur dur rich man bad
Except that most squatters use homes owned by regular people.
I think the law should be changed so the landlord has the right to move strangers in with a tenant if there is a spare room or two.
@@llkoolbean4935 regular people don’t have houses sitting unused
@@llkoolbean4935 how many spare houses do you have lying around?
Israel set the bar for squatting
As a son to a Native North American, and father to Amazonian Native children, I'd suggest the United States, Canada, Latin America, Australia, and New Zealand might set the BAR for squatting. Israel has nothing on the US, as an example of squatting. Indigenous peoples of the Americas almost always get overlooked as contemporary examples when it comes to occupation, and conquest (and yes, the occupation, and conquest, still occurs to this day).
Technically I'd say it was Britain that set the bar for squatting
@@MaxVliet Indeed, you're correct, but I was attempting to keep the argument within the Settler-State paradigm--as in Israel being a Settler-State.
With respect, this is classic shoehorning. The first reply to your post has more perspective. I often get the feeling that Israel gets blamed for every expression of Western Imperialism in the Middle East for the past 500 years. Not everything is the fault of Israel. They're not everybody's Whipping Boy, all of a sudden.
😂😂😂
Adam Smith rolls in his grave every time someone from the Adam Smith Institute goes on the television.
or is he? i remember him writing "where is a great wealth there is great inequality" and immediately after that something about how "we" need more cops. it is important to factor in that Smith had an ideological war to win, he had to be "hipp" or whatever the term was, so he had to diss the "boomer" landlords. today we live in the world where this war has been won a long time ago and the "industrious entrepreneur" like Bezos or Musk can indirectly be a huge landlord. today there is clearly no distinction between industrialist, banker and landlord, and so the discourse evolves accordingly
@@Daniel_Zhu_a6f- a lot of clever words to show you don't really know Smith's works at all
@@danielcrafter9349 could you point what exactly am i wrong about? apart from using scary "clever" words
@@Daniel_Zhu_a6f The fact you obviously haven't read his 'Theory of Moral Sentiments'
Yay, fairplay to the squatters. I would be breaking into empty shops if I was homeless. Its ridiculous, people sleeping on the streets when half the town centre is empty.
A halfway decent human being would be happy to say “Go ahead and stay there until it’s sold, just don’t damage anything or carry on illegal activities in there”. But most millionaires get to be millionaires by trampling over other people and being selfish.
Why, its not their land or their own, they have no right to it
Does that work with native Americans/First Nations, Aborigines or Maori? Hey Geronimo, stop squatting on MY land, fishing in MY rivers, planting crops in MY fields and hunting MY buffalo. Under capitalism it's all about ME, a narcissistic, selfish individualist who's concept of society is that it should serve the owners of property like ME.
@@CI-dh1rl You missed the part about half way decent human beings
I agree, but squatters always decimate the place, because it doesn’t belong to them.
If u have homes that u own and dont even live in..u have too many homes
pay your rent bitter tenant
You need to get informed. Squatters are now entering homes as they're being sold or when people go on vacation. Watch a few videos.
@@llkoolbean4935I don't know how common that is but this property was temporarily unoccupied while it was being sold. It's not a house and it wasn't out of use for a long time period.
Any sources for this? As what you are saying it's legally feasible
if you have two pairs of shoes the extra pair could go to a homeless
I had to turn the volume down after that jump scare of sudden squawking after Michael said one very normal thing. They are so ready to fired up they don't even listen.
From the shady Institute of Economic Affairs.
🤔If the British government thinks it is legal to occupy occupied territory(PALESTINE) it should be not only legal but obligatory to occupy unoccupied property
Obligatory? As in I would be legally required to break into empty buildings and set up camp?
@@eldrago19 thats the spirit!
People without a building, for a building without people!
@@eldrago19 Or the government could do what it did seventy-five years ago and relocate homeless people to vacant housing. They already have experience in this kind of thing. Irony is a beautiful thing when applied well, isn't it?!
Oh dear!
I definitely want to see the reaction to that great Adam Smith Quote.
America is a frontier country ? Is this guy aware that we are living in the 21st century ?
He's a good journalist but here he's dead wrong yeah
You know, typical situation where a homeless person in the vast emptiness that is NORTH DAKOTA casually occupies an abandoned house. Many such cases. Give me a break. As LCD Soundsystem said, "All you know about us you learned on T.V.," apparently from the 1950s in Mr. Adam Smith's fantasy fuelled brain.
Props to you Michael for getting one of Adam Smith's more left-wing quotes in! 👏👏👏
Does this vicious woman have to shout, is she some kind of Banshee ?.
Any society that prioritises property rights over human rights is fundamentally sick.
Nice pair of Young Fascist presenters on GBeebies eh? 😬
there's something very "off" about that Adam Smith Institute guy. Like... he's a bit uncanny somehow
He's had veneers and probably other cosmetic work done, and probably a bunch of media training, and elocution lessons too possibly, as his accent sounds different. I met him before on a night out in London a few years ago, he was the friend of a friend of some Oxbridgey types I know.
What's wrong with that woman?! ??!
When she started laughing at the notion that landlords have responsibilities
WAAAIITT! Tadhg is here?! RESPECT!
Lovely to see Tadhg on the show!
Any property that's been rented by a landlord is commercial in my eyes
Why did she laugh when Michael said people have a responsibility to use their buildings properly in a housing crisis? 😕
Is housin overpriced thanks to extortionate landlords & Gov, yes
..do people need housing, yes.
Is squatting legal?, it is if your desperate
Exactly, like anyone is after living as a squatter. we are being forced out of our homes because we cant afford them its so simple.
It is always a civil offence, for which you can be forcibly removed for trespass.
Houses are over-priced, and management companies absolutely over-charge.
Once again, Michael doing some excellent work on GB News. I hope his constant appearances and counter points of view cause some pause for thought amongst the audience
learn from the past ,,,
on 17th of october in 2015 , a hotel iowned by gary neville ,and i think ryan giggs was squatted whilst it was udergoing renovation , housing 20 plus homeless ,
they was allowed to stay , it was winter , they the squatters became a focal hub for manchester homeless and many took the first steps to get rehoused as agencies worked with them
Shows what can be achieved when persuasion rather than force is used.
Great to see Tadhg on the show !!
You brought tadhg on! I didn't think i could love this channel more, thank you! I hope he becomes a regular
Wealthy capitalist owning loads of land and property to the detriment of everyone else is wrong, but so is squatting equally wrong. The system needs to and hopefully will change.
But only one is punished by law. The poor are criminalized for sleeping on the streets, not paying rent, and squatting or dumpster-diving to survive. The rich have no consequences.
Noticed the way the tv footage stayed on the blury camera of the right winger through his whole "speech" but as soon as Micheal was speaking it drifted to shots of the building until the presenters wanted to shout him down. TV is cesspit.
This is all a way of manufacturing consent.
Draw the publics eye towards a very specific issue, that seemingly needs intervention, then wait till they beg the government to help solve the problem they highlighted...
Believe them at your peral......
"peril" 😊
That conservative Brit person is supremely out of touch with American "frontier" history - squatting here was still a civil issue until the early 1990s. I guess he never heard of Alphabet City in NYC, Jonathan Larson or the little play he wrote called RENT.
The wording of the law is "designed or adapted for use as a residence". Any future plans have nothing to do with it. If it's not already a "residence" - albeit an empty one - when squatted then it's purely a civil dispute and nothing to do with the cops whatsoever.
You missed Shane MacGowan off your squat list! One of many from Ireland, of course.
Same talking points as the US atm, and a proliferation of bodycam evictions from The States coming on my feed without invitation. So transparent.
Tadhg what a pleasure watching an interview with him
Great to see Tadgh here
For a second thought he was talking about London at the end. All big cities are shedding their artistic and working classes and becoming playgrounds for the rich.
YOU CANT EXPECT SOMEONE TO JUST WOCK UP ON SOMEONES PWIVATE PWOPERTY!
You get a thumbs-up for having Tadhj on!
If you don't cause damage and you care for the building then you are far better value to the owner than security contractors
Exactly! Vacant buildings are severely prone to damage unless they are regularly checked upon. Squatters often improve as well as preserve buildings.

Shame for everyone since 2012, when I was very young & homeless we squatted in empty council flats often, we looked after the place cleaned it up & kept it warm.
When councils were ready to let the place they took us to court & evicted us.
It was a right of everyone, nobody saw it as a long term solution to being homeless.
Used to be many, many squats, what a shame it’s been made illegal.
Yip - come to Belfast.
You can only own what you can control. If you own multiple properties you have to arrange to have someone there to protect it. You are not entitled to have the same State that robs you, protect your property for you.
The reason only posh pop stars make it these days is because the industries are all linked, and don't let anyone else make it.
In late stage capitalism it's imperative to push the narrative that you can still, and SHOULD still, want to be rich.
By dangling the goal of potential riches in front of the poor, you get him to abandon his greatest strength, that is solidarity with other poor people.
It was a nice surprise to see Tadhg! I agree that if you come to Ireland, you should avoid Dublin. I personally recommend going to Galway instead :D
Land tax = council tax. Same thing. A tax for owning property.
Ireland made me take up backpacking, which is essentially being homeless with preparation and good equipment
running a pub/business from there might seem utterly pointless if you can afford the building to begin with...i imagine its only use (other than an actual home if you liked the location) is to sit idle and accrue more value. a deeply broken system.
Please remember that no one is interested in protecting YOUR property. Only the assets and property of the billionaires are protected, you will get none.
"Get out of paying rent" "take property off of people".
If there's one thing Israel taught us it's that with narcissists, every accusation is a confession!
THESE HAUGHTY PEOPLE SHOW US HOW THEY THINK ALL THE TIME.
Love that you go on GB News 🎉
I remember coming to London 24 years ago, I used to be able to go out with £5 in my pocket and still end up home with £3, I also was unemployed for years after and still managed to get by
Ah, them wer the days, when Mitzi’s were £2 a pop and blooming strong 🪩 🎵
Squatting should be decriminalised for residential property's
If the property is currently empty, and then the owners decide what to do with it, should the squatters then be obliged to move?
Yes you can go to court and get an order for them to be removed.
If I ever owned a property worth millions of £’s I’d be responsible for ensuring it was secure.
The fact that these people are being called “professional squatters” trying to fight gentrification makes me feel less supportive of them, as they definitely targeted Gordon to gain more media coverage.
London is too expensive, none of these governments will address them, so until some sensible people stand up to create a party that will lead to the building of more houses, nothing will change
Long live the spirit of Gerrard Winstanley and the Diggers.
The funniest part was when they asked all locals what they thought about the art program that moved in and they mostly loved it.
This is brilliant well done squatters
GB News Presenters speak with the same slow clear diction as CBeebies
So funny to see the grins on GB interviewers faces as that guy spoke😳
I love the slightly amused look on Michael’s face when the other air head is talking. 😂
Anyone else have an issue with the oddly haired man’s teeth? Reminds me of Ross from friends.
I heard a statistic that said the children from wealthy households received 180K on average from their parents... was this from one of your videos? If so, can you share the link to the video. Or to the source. Thanks!
Young people don’t stand a chance. My son is from Devon and wants to do acting. No way could he afford to go to London to pursue his dream of acting! Squatting would perhaps have enabled him to. So sad.
Branson not only squatted. He also evaded tax when importing records from France. His mum apparently convinced the judge to show leniency. This is according to his own biography, unless of course, it is another bit of his myth creation about himself.
"Do you believe in property rights?"
Yes, I just don't think they necessarily supersede all other rights when there's conflict between them.
Badlands of North Dakota has the muppet ever been to North Dakota?
Ramsay is going about saving restaurants while his goes bust. Brilliant
Can someone cite and explain the Adam Smith quote Michael used?
I’m absolutely a lefty. But I also own my own house. I totally believe that the state should ensure that everyone has somewhere decent to live and that this should be funded by having a sane taxation regime (not to mention re-nationalisation of services and infrastructure). However, if I left my house unoccupied for a couple of months (say I went travelling) and I came back and it had been claimed and trashed by squatters, I’d be f’ing furious. I think the principle of ownership also applies to commercial property. A tricky one I guess, because if I was homeless, I would also want a roof over my head, f ownership 😅
Tadgh is not entirely correct. While Fine Gael are a right wing party so too are Fianna Fàil and the Greens. Between them these 3 right wing parties have been in power since 2007 (with our other right wing party, Labour). Our housing crisis has been going on for nearly 20 years.
You can't just steal someone's property tho...
U can still squat residentials if its a politican action or protest. We still here in the commercial buildings!!!! Squat the lot!!! Solidarity with all traveller people!!!
It might be annoying that people have a property that is vacant but it is their property and they can do with it as they please, unless of course, you don't reside in this country.
Land is a finite resource, if you're not making use of it then you should sell it, plus if you're not using a building then there's a chance it could fall into disrepair which will leave a bad impression of the area and potentially reduce the value of other house in the area. End of the day if you don't want squatters, make use of the land.
Well, apart from the fact that the law kind of says the opposite.
Tadhg you forgot to mention Galway! How did you miss that one....?
The "Eat the Rich" movement has begun. GREAT!
Rishi sunak knows EVERYTHING about squatting at No : 10.. just saying💁🏾♀️😆🤣
Whilst Michael put them right on standard British law, Ken and Barbie sat there sporting rictus grins as that automaton from the Adam Smith Institute looked like an immobile background character from Grand Theft Auto. Another pitiful fucking shit show from GB News.
Top recommendation from Tadhg at the end :)
we need vacancy tax
They began criminalising squatters in 1994, under the CJA when they amended the 1977 Criminal law Act. At the same town a lot of hostels opened an initiative that proved to be a gravy train for providers as big private companies took over small Housing Associations. Lots of people still preferred to squat but it has been downhill all the way from there, like in so many facets of life. It took neo-liberalism a bit of time to permeate but boy has it done so.
At least the police know something of the squat laws at last.
Dont forget galway and sligo just get the f out of dublin
Years ago when I used to go to squat parties I ever met a squatter that wasn't middle class. The rebels of torie parents :)
hmm.. Squatting was rife in Amsterdam in the 1970s and my parents came home to their rented flat one day to find their stuff on the street and the doorlocks changed. So this can affect ordinary people. But long term empty buildings (>2 years empty) are a disgrace. So if people squat after that time and it is difficult to get them out it is the owners fault.
Meanwhile there Is a 18 story office building a couple hundred people use a day with majority of there workers choosing to work from home around the bend.
Israel doing the same in Gaza
The Peasants result!
What's with James Price's hair? How many squatters live in it? Obviously, the entire head is vacant 😂
Israeli settlers inspire western squatters surely 😂
Great name for a band “Gordon Ramsay and the Squatters”
Ireland never had squatting laws like British, funny that huh.
I've never seen Michael Walker school anyone. He can give an opinion but that isn't necessarily right.
Does this dimbulb know what Adam Smith thought of landlords? 😅
👏👏
I love this
I mean it's not only the market. It's also migration. But it's not just migartion. It's the combination of both.
Does Martha's vineyard experience with immigrants ring a bell?
Yes hog yr land dont build rent to us to grow food
Did Benjamin Zephaniah squat when he first moved to London?
Sorry, comparing the peasants revolt to squatting in 2024 is ridiculous. You're rationalising criminal behaviour and it doesn't matter whether it's a civil matter in the UK and the US. Just because your car has been in the garage for four months it doesn't mean I get to break in and start using it. Love Tag( Can't get the spelling right sorry ). He's been doing excellent work for the past few months.
Like, I agree but don't "there's another 5 minutes" and not either include it, nor have it linked or very least have the longer form in your videos list
that fake laugh
What I don't like is how squatters absolutely destroy property. If you like tge place, then why not take care of it.
Naw if you ain’t lived here for ten years
you can only rent
You can own 2 houses max
Private equity can only build in center America
If we can’t buy land in the country you hail from, you gotta wait ten years to buy here. And you gotta live there and can’t rent it.
If you live on the east coast
Well give you like 3 grand over housing market value (ten years ago)
I’ll be here all week. Solving stuff 😊
