That fish bowl thing is completely true! My sister works at a pet store, and this lady came up to her with a small-ass fish bowl and requested a lot of fish. She immediately declined her offer and refused to let her have any fish, and then told her the basics of fish care and the needed materials / tanks
That's crazy as a pet store employee though, a huge percentage of sales are made to people who just want a temporary fish in a bowl.
Finding Nemo is a story about fish abuse though. Its about a fish who was stolen from his natural habitat and was about to be a gift to an abusive child.

My story’s the opposite. I bought a (maroon) clown online, and when she arrived, having spent 5 long days in transit (thanks UPS) she was tiny at 2cm long including tail, cold as ice, and looked dead in the bag. I warmed her up slowly, and 12 months later she’s 5cm long, fat as can be, and the terror of my tank. I wish I’d filmed it for CZcams.
I had an experience as a young kid when it got really cold in the house after we were gone and when we came back my tetra fish, Angel, seemed totally dead. We were about to flush him down the toilet (which you shouldn’t do anyway even if your dish is actually dead) but we realized he was alive just in time

Saltwater is only expensive if you have corals ( I think?? )
Haha I wish. The absolute cheapest fish are like $20, the most expensive consumers can legally buy being around $1,600 and up. My 20 long cost like $550 but my freshwater 30 only cost like $300. Also the amount of extra gear you need adds a few hundred dollars.
@@cyanblue5888 Well all fish setups are expensive, but saltwater tends to have larger and more expensive fish, who need larger and more expensive tanks, more expensive types of hardscape, more expensive and specific water parameters, more expensive food, I could go on. The cheapest salt water fish at my LFS is $35CAD I believe. Things like tangs, clowns, blennys, etc. are more expensive. I saw a yellow tang going for $130USD online the other day, and yes, people have bought from there and they also go for a lot more expensive depending where you buy from. Freshwater are easier to keep and breed in general.

They can pop open though if you overwater them
Most of them don’t, however the walking cactus does. It’s endemic to Baja California Sur though, and you’re probably not gonna be able to keep it in a pot that well as they kinda lie flat on the ground to move better. Also it does take a while so they don’t really jump lol.
Cholla cacti are called jumping cactus because they have long spines that hook on everything and are very annoying

I know some pet stores wouldn’t sell clownfish or blue tangs after the finding dori movie first came out because they knew stuff like that would happen. One pet store that I went to actually had a tank that was themed as the fish tank in the dentist office in Finding Nemo and had all the same breeds of fish in it and everything and it was actually pretty cool but that pet store was also not selling clown fish or blue tangs knowing that most of them wouldn’t get proper care because people are dumb and impulse buy animals all the time.
These people are the reason why clownfish are going endangered. Disney is a fish abuser too
My LFS employee was talking about some guy who wanted to buy saltwater fish, and the guy asked if he had a saltwater tank. He didn't.
As a newer saltwater tank owner (who has a clownfish which is my favorite fish), I am amazed that someone did that (putting the clownfish in a bowl of what I presume is freshwater)

I feel this I bought myself another 10 gallon right before my wisdom tooth surgery because we went to the second hand store right next to the place to kill some time. My mom thinks I’m insane lol. I did used to have a 150 gallon that I got from a teacher who had it in her classroom but I sadly could never use it and had to get rid of it because it’s too heavy for my house and would ruin the floor because I have a really older farm house that my parents fixed up. I wish I could’ve used that tank because I had so many good ideas of what to put in it but I sold it to a really nice couple that wanted to upgrade their turtle’s tank.

13:30 when I was younger I had this huge, I'm talking massive crush on this girl. One day my birthday came around and she surprised me with a betta fish. Even gave me a small tank, food, and an artificial leaf for the fish to rest on. Anyways, it still wasn't a proper tank and the fish died. However, because of that experience I love keeping fish and I've currently been caring for a tomato clownfish named Sora for 2 years. As for my crush, although we ended up dating, we decided to leave it as friends. We are just as close now as we were then.

Super sad. We had this with one of our fish as well. He survived, just had a wound on his head (which we treated and it became a normal scar). This terrified me so much that im making sure that everything in my aquarium is big enough for every fish species to fit through.

I can’t believe people actually do that but my cousin (who isn’t my favorite person especially when it comes to animals) used a goldfish in our white elephant game and once we opened it and saw a goldfish in there we all felt so bad for it and my other cousin took it home and put it in a big tank and it’s happy but then there’s my parents where last year for Christmas they got me moss balls for my tanks lol

My brother and I have rescued many fish , right now we have 4 plecos and it would shock you how much happier they are . We found one at a garden centre where he was in a small tank about double his length and he is an almost fully grown pleco .

Been stuck with two goldfish for years now. Got a whole bunch of them as food for a 55 gallon tank with two musk turtles, two ended up straggling along, grew more and more. Had to abandon and separate the 55 gallon tank/tank mates into 4 different tanks. After several feuds and separations between the two remaining goldfish I was able to house them together permanently a few months ago.

When I was a kid, we had a 36 gallon community tank with a pleco that lived for years, often hiding in a burrow it made between the substrate and a piece of fake driftwood. Looking back, there's no way that tank was big enough for that monster.

Woah I must have got lucky. I got my first planted tank 2 weeks ago and none of the plants have died! I have a Java Fern windelov, dwarf hairgrass, anubias nana petite, and cryptacorne undulata. The crypts are growing fast and look beautiful. My one eyed rescue betta fish female really loves her plants

I had chili rasboras but they all died. I had no idea how they died but I didn't have a water test kit. Make sure your parameters are just right.

7:46 - yeah, that's a dwarf. A beautiful example of a blue color morph dwarf gourami as well. Honestly, if I had to choose one kind of fish to be able to keep and I couldn't choose anything saltwater, it would be dwarf gouramis.
Fun fact about dwarfs, while they do bicker a bit like larger gouramis, they're not quite as territorial towards their own kind. They'll go after any other similarly sized gourami, betta or perch in a heartbeat, though.

my "pleco" does a great job searching the "substrate" for food.

I used to have a goldfish that rescued from a carnival and a few other goldfish. Some sickness got in my tank and wiped out all of my fish in that tank I tried everything to save them but sadly they didn’t make it and it all happened within a 24 hour period and I was up all night trying to figure out ways to save them and I miss them they were awesome. I even got the water tested and it said everything was good and to this day I have no idea what sickness killed them. I loved those goldfish and I was prepared to have them for 20+ years and they had a big tank and everything because I wanted them to have the best life possible. My biggest one which is the one I rescued from a carnival and was also my oldest one he got to be bigger than my hand knew little tricks and had so much personality.

I think I I’ll be buying some more plant “substrate” for a makeover of my tank. I also wish I could keep a “pleco”.
