I love it but I’m more of a MK3 vr6 gti type of guy. when they came out with the mk4 they made it more round and got rid of that sexy body line that ran from the front to the back

oblivionmedia In Australia they’re called Bora’s and I had an 03 With 210,000 kms before i wrote it off :( but it never got the crayon smell or rust but was sure filled with a lot of unreliable plastic parts that would break but loved the 2.3l v5 engine :)
Lol I actually miss the crayon smell of MK4 Jetta. Don't miss the vacuum leaks of the 1.8t my God so many vacuum lines.

Love the R32! For years no one outside the VW community would give this car the respect it deserves. Finally people are starting to learn more about this car and prices are going up! In the past 2 months 2 low mile R32 sold for over $60,000🤯. I actually started my CZcams channel to spread the word about this car and show people what this car can be a fun car to own. Nice video as always guys👍🏻

It was also available with the DSG in Europe but yes, mostly manual.

owned a MK5 R32 for over 3 years, sold it 3 months ago.
In the 3 years I've had it, I spent about 10k on body work to bring it back like new, and about twice that amount in mechanical work. I loved the car and the sound coming from the 3.2L coupled with a milltek cat-back was simply amazing! I was getting people to turn their heads and look at my car, every one loved it. But every good thing has an end.
The main reason I sold the car is probably that it was falling appart and I wanted to keep it mint, so I was always spending every single penny I had to keep it in perfect condition. I had to redo the chains which is comon on those model at arround 100k miles, thing is, i started hearing them again 20k miles later. I figured it might be the dual mass flywheel that had an issue and I might have been too agressive on the downshifts and loosened the chains over time, although that was never checked before the sell and is only speculations.
I had to spend about 6k in 3 months to keep it in good shape over the end of 2019 and the begining of 2020. Had to completly replace the haldex systeme that was full of clutch material for unknown reasons. Had to take off the valve cover because i had oil leaking on one of my spark plugs ( never heard of that one, guess it's pretty uncomon ). had a couple things I can't recall at this point.
The choice was fairly simple, I had spent half the prize of a new car ( after putting the sale of the R32 as downpayment ) in 3 months on repairs... I'll skip all the personnal details but in the end, had to make a choice and my wallet is probably going to thank me on the long run for not keeping the R32. I decided to change for a MK7.5 GTI which i have about 10k planned in modifications over the next 5 years and to this day I do not regret selling the car. Yes I am nostalgic some time, like when I watch this video.
In the end, I think that if you want to buy a R32, you better have deep pockets because parts are expensive and the car tend to break more often then not. You better be an enthusiast otherwise you won't see the need to keep it in good shape and will let it deteriorate and in the end won't see the benifit of keeping a car that is breaking down.
If you are both of those, I'm sure you will be happy with your R32! and if you stumble upon the MK5 1935/5000, give me a shout ;)
P.S. I have known personally 2 people that owned MK5 R32s like mine, one sold it because he had too many problems and ended up getting just as many on his new car ( probably the guy that is unlucky ) and the other one keeps it mint and has a turbo on it, races it 3 - 5 times a year tops... you do what you want with that info.
The oil on the spark plug is likely a blown PCV that's integrated in the rocker cover. How would I know? mine is doing the same thing lol. Just did the body last spring and added coilovers cause i had blown shocks and 2 broken springs on the passenger side. I was well aware of the body needing repairs when i bought it and it had been in a minor accident on said passenger side. As for the rest it hasn't been that bad on repairs as I approach 4 years of ownership, most of the interior has held up well no broken parts and the engine will be gone through when I have the chains replaced. My plans are to use it as a summer car and get a cheaper 2.0t for winter months and daily commute.
I'm glad I saw this. Had an urge to buy an R32 and was trying to justify spending so much on something that I know has issues over time. Now, I've came to the decision on getting a Mk7.5 Golf R or a built STI

The Vr6 is the LS engine of the VW/Audi world. So many ppl are getting these engines and swapping them in other flavors of VW/Audi. Which to me is awesome. 500-1200 hrsprs out of these motors can be a beautiful thing.
My boosted MK5 R32 is absolutely amazing! 503bhp/592lb. Ft torque. Smoked a Yamaha R6 nicely. Built the engine in my kitchen 6 years ago and daily it all four seasons. Been surprisingly reliable!

I love my r32, everyone trashes the mkV but it's still a fun and quick car. Luckily got mine from the south with 49k miles on it and I'm the 2nd owner and the thing is mint and rust free. My dad has a mkIV r32 with 220k miles on it still running strong and all the rust taken care of. Such great cars, I don't plan on ever selling it

Bought a North American mk5 r32 for only $11,500 with 180,000 km like 3 months ago and it was so much fun I decided to import one from Japan with 63,000 km for 12,500 full price to get to where I live. It’s a right handed drive so hopefully it’s not to big of a difference but my friends have been calling me dumb for “wasting” my money but I truly think these cars are investments and will be totally worth it when I’m older and hopefully still have them lol

The last R32 auctioned off on BringATrailer sold for 62K and had only 1800 miles. There are some fine examples still to be had out there but at a cost. If you're going to talk about the R32 you could have thrown a couple of exhaust sound clips in'der ya know, it's the most iconic thing about this whip.

As a mk4 owner I love this car and I absolutely hate it. You will be replacing lower control arm bushings, doing the timing chain, replacing the plastic coolant flanges, strut mount bushings, dipstick tube, hood latch, door cards, the fucking glove box and arm rest, rear hatch motor, etc...

I have a 2008 vw r32 with 86k miles on it. I've had it since 2012. Best car ever. I need new rims though....
I bought a 2004 brand new off the showroom floor. Red. Owned it for 12 years and 160k Miles. Very few issues with it. Did a bit of racing with it and that entire time never had to replace the clutch. A couple corrections to your info... 2004 did not come with HIDs. Also, the standard seats were cloth, leather seats were an option (which is what most of them were). Such a fun car. Wish I still had it!

The computer is showing a Voltage code, needs a MAF sensor, headlight replaced, the bulbs converted back to halogen because leds he installed messed with resistance, and it needs brakes, but it has:
koni coilovers sitting 1.5" lower, all shaved door handles with viper alarm and door poppers, brandnew wheels n tires, pristine interior, Pioneer doubledin and all new speakers installed, and a brand new factory red spray with badges removed and all lights smoked. I just love it cuz it's the best 2 door golf ever made. He says they're about $9k for a clean, stock example, but I don't know what I should offer...
You should make a video about the R32, but don't feature it's exhaust, which is one of the best sounds in the world.

I was honestly looking for a R32 last week!
My 2nd car was a black Mk4 (‘03) VW GTI w/ a 2.8L 24v VR6 and a 6 speed manual w/ black leather interior, sunroof, etc. I slammed it on some FK Streetline coilovers (I was 21 and broke lol) and Audi Fat Fives. I blacked out the back of the headlights and I also threw in a 2.5” magnaflow cat back exhaust as soon as I bought it (of course). I fucking LOVED that car man... I ended up getting T-Boned bad enough to deploy the drivers seat and side curtain airbags by some bitch who didn’t have any insurance on Christmas Eve a few years ago, so I ended up parting out the car and that was that. I’m currently in the market for a Mk4 R32 though so hopefully this story will have a happy ending one day!!!

I love how they think badging was the reason people didn't but the R, nothing to do with the bad publicity on emissions and the fact that the majority of VW owners are sandal-wearing hipsters who just love their status symbol. All the VW owners I know aside from my 1 friend with the type 1 are hipsters and not really the kind of folks I like to hang with. Personally, I like the Jetta VR6. the Mk 3 I think. My roommate had a GLI MK3 VR6 with a 3.1 stroker conversion. When it ran it was crazy fast. That was a long time ago lol

Owned and wish I still did, an MK4 R32 with a Stage 2 VF ENGINEERING SUPER CHARGER and Mother Nature took my R32 in 2012 in a flood in NYC! I would take the original R over any four banger popcorn 🍿 fart makers. Nothing beats the sweet music 🎶 from the awesome VR6 engine 😎
