    • @Jeff_F7
      @Jeff_F7 Před 3 měsíci +4

      Wow, that says alot. I have the mk4 R32 (tornado red) which I've had for almost 18 years, but the b7 RS4 is a dream car for me (along with many other cars (both euro and Japanese) in my imaginary garage). I would have thought the b7 would have made you forget about the R32, but good to know the old girl can still do it for you. Question: how do they compare, especially handling-wise (I don''t know if you ever go 9/10ths or explore the limits with these cars)? Neither are exactly lightweight. However, I have only heard good things about the b7 Rs4 unlike some other Audi RS models. I often hear that it doesn't typically understeer the way other Audi's do, especially with the rear-biased quattro. Definitely one of the most unique RS Audi's ever. One of the best looking as well (who doesn't love swollen fender flares). Would love an Avant version. Also, how is reliability? I heard maintenance can drain the wallet. And then there's the need to carbon clean...

    • @JC_46
      @JC_46 Před 3 měsíci +3

      @@Jeff_F7 how do they compare, it’s a good question. Someone told me before I bought the B7 that it’s twice the power, twice the running costs but not twice the car as the R32 and I would agree with that statement. I think it also very much depends whether you are comparing a well spec’d R32 with a bog standard B7, or whether both have had some subtle mods done to improve power and handling, like both of mine have. The B7 RS4 if not properly maintained like you have indicated can be incredibly down on power. I’ve seen them as low as 330bhp which is crazy for a car that is meant to be 414bhp from factory. Carbon cleaning is essential, as is a stage 2 remap here in the UK to really bring them alive and turn them into the proper RS they should have been from the factory. Mine is running 450bhp it has had a recent carbon clean, stage 2 tune, deflapped manifold, full catless exhaust system and it really is a quick car. It’s much faster than the R32, but I can see how an untuned, carbon’d up example wouldn’t feel much quicker than the R32. The V8 revving to almost 9,000 RPM is intoxicating and just makes you want to keep driving it. The DRC suspension although excellent is very problematic so most including myself swap this out for coilovers. I’m running KW V3’s on the RS4 and Bilstein B14’s on the R32. Both cars handle amazingly. I also have H&R sway bars fitted to both. I absolutely explore the limits of both cars - they are both weekend toys, especially the RS - I wanted it tuned this way as it’s purely for fast road/track and not a daily at all. If I had to say which one handled better I would say the RS although the R32 with the mods I’ve done is incredible. I feel I can drive the R32 on the absolute limit whereas I haven’t reached that in the RS yet. As for RS reliability…. Pretty reliable honestly. As long as you buy one with the big jobs already done or budget for the big jobs. These are: carbon clean, brakes, oil cooler, aux radiator, drc suspension. Once these are addressed, they should in theory be pretty bulletproof and the engines are bulletproof. They are both really special cars, but the B7 is just super iconic. Manual V8, huge flares, bucket seats and flat bottom steering wheel out of a Lamborghini Gallardo, Gallardo brakes too. There’s a reason they are more expensive than the 7 year newer B8 model …
      I’d like to keep them both forever, but if I had to sell one tomorrow, the R32 would go.

    • @RatBustard
      @RatBustard Před 2 měsíci

      @@JC_46 here I've been debating selling my mk4 R32 (owned for 12 years) for a B7 RS4. we didn't receive the wagon in the US, so I'd replace a nice two-door hot hatch with a sedan to make it easier taking my kid to cars and coffee. I've owned B6 S4 and B7 A4, so I'm reluctant to get back into a B6/B7, but that 8k rpm V8 and manual keep calling my name.

    • @JC_46
      @JC_46 Před 2 měsíci +1

      @@RatBustard the MK4 R32 is a really, really special car. Not as good chassis wise as the MK5, but it’s definitely more special. Reminds me of the B7 RS4 in that it’s got big wide arches and looks really mean from both the front and rear. Whereas the MK5 doesn’t look as special, in my opinion.
      Not sure how much MK4 R32’s are worth in the states assuming that’s where you are, but I know B7 RS4’s are double and even triple in some cases the price of what they are in the UK over there, so it’s whether you can justify it. Also not only didn’t you get wagon’s, you also didn’t get the flat bottom steering wheel or the bucket seats which really do help make the RS4 special IMO. I know lots of guys buy these from Europe and ship them over. Still, no matter how good the R32’s are, you really can’t beat a V8 that revs beyond 8k RPM. If you can keep both, do it. If not, maybe after 12 years it will be a welcome change. As I said in my original post though, the RS4 is twice the cost for parts, running costs and fuel but it’s not twice the car.

    • @RatBustard
      @RatBustard Před 2 měsíci

      @@JC_46 yep, states, so the B7 seats and steering are very underwhelming and would be my first mod, if not already done.
      mk4 R32's here going way up in value, especially sub 100k mile examples, of which mine is. as RS4's get closer to 100k miles, they get closer to $28-30k USD, so while not cheap, certainly enticing as a near direct price swap with a mk4 R32. but yeah, the brake part cost alone for an RS4 scares me!

      I agree, MK5’s are only just now starting to get the love that they deserve. For many, like myself, it’s not the best looker and that’s why it gets overlooked. It doesn’t look very aggressive. But that’s not to say it looks bad. It doesn’t. I prefer the looks of the MK4, but the MK5 upped the game when it comes to handling, by far. And it’s the last to have that sweet VR6.

    The best thing, they have their factory claimed power in real. Halle77 had a lot of R32 on their Dyno, and if they are in good condition- no problem with the ignition, or intake or something else - they had their 250 ps. Also engines with more than 150.000 km. Unfortunately a lot of R32 where upgraded with turbo kits, or their Block was used for turbo Projects up to morethan 1000 ps. That’s one reason that it would be difficult to find an original R32.

  • @trozio1

    Just to clarify the mk5 R32 has the 2nd generation DSG. The 1st gen came in the mk4 R32

    • @coreyw427
      @coreyw427 Před 3 měsíci +1

      They only have a few versions in simple terms. Both MK4 and MK5 use the DQ250. The others are DQ200 dry clutch used in like 1.4 TSI etc, DQ500 used in RS3 / Tiguan, and DQ380/381 used in MK7.5 Golf R etc. But there are heaps of different mechatronics, gear ratios, etc. So the mechatronic in a late model DQ250 like in MK7 R is much improved over 2004 TT

    • @coreyw427
      @coreyw427 Před 3 měsíci

      Then there are also the longitudinal versions of course

    • @trozio1
      @trozio1 Před 3 měsíci

      Yes I know that but there is a clear difference in mechatronics between the mk4 R32 DQ250 and the mk5 R32 version. Not to mention the mk5 R32 version went to using a canbus system instead of using the mk4 R32’s version of being wired straight to the controller

    • @coreyw427
      @coreyw427 Před 3 měsíci

      @@trozio1 No, both MK4 and MK5 use can bus. I’m not sure what you mean by wired straight to the controller but the engine ECU in MK4 & 5 R32 is essentially the same, Bosch ME 7.1.1. Yes, probably mechatronics used in Mk5 will be a few revisions newer, especially in later models, but not sure what the clear difference you speak of is.

    • @trozio1
      @trozio1 Před 3 měsíci

      @@coreyw427 What I mean is that the early version of the DSG used analog inputs to determine things like speed, shift paddle position, reverse light control, etc. When the mk5 R32 came out all of this was revised to no longer use these analog inputs.
      I’m not sure what you are arguing here. My comment was simply that they are two different generations of the DQ250 DSG separated by clear enhancements made to the TCU, mechatronics, wiring, etc as a result of VAG products becoming more sophisticated.
      In other words: the 1st generation DSG was offered in the mk4 R32. The mk5 R32 was the 2nd gen DSG
