Jim's point about Field of Ruin is spot on. All of my decks always start with 2-3 copies of Field of Ruin cause of the amount of fun and good utility lands in the format.
Side note with Bloomburrow coming soon with an Offspring mechanic I fully expect you to add the "YEAH YEAH YEAH YEAH YEAH" sound clip to your collection, Jim
Also, fully agreed with your end comment that a version of this could be a thing post-rotation. The Aftermath Analyst combo is the only deck that seems like a truly awful matchup, and it will be fully gone.
This is by far my favorite deck. The bindings do feel a little clunky even with the triomes. Excited to see what the deck will evolve too after the triomes (and thus, making the bindings way worse) rotate.
Doppelgang has got to be my absolute favorite card of the year. It's one of those win conditions that feels totally fair but is just HILARIOUS when it resolves. I always let the stack resolve when my opponent casts a big doppelgang cause it's always fun!
Ive been playing a variant of this deck. But instead of leyline binding i went with virtue of persistance as more life gain/removal. And the ability to recur atraxa or Roxanne in the late game is huge
Months ago, I heard/saw Saffronolive or MonoBlackMagic crash arena with Dopplegang at X equals 4 or 5. Maybe that was MTGO for Saffronolive, but still arena has come a long way
I agree about Atraxa, Standard is so combat focused, so that huge of a lifelinker with instant draw value on ETB is very very strong as a singular threat. It should cost {WW}{UU}{BB}{GG}
In the final game of the round, You cast doppelgang targeting the cornucopia for 4 copies. You also could have targeted the Mirrex for the second target! A 2nd & 3rd Mirrex, while clearly not the content play, would have allowed you to flood the board. You still would have had 5 life gain/spell minimum, kept parity with your opponent's damage, and gone wide enough to kill with poison quickly. 🤘
I messed around with this deck a bunch to try to find a better list. I put in Binding, too. I tried to 1 and 2 more omnipaths but ended up removing those entirely for a couple of memory deluges, which felt better to me. It was a fun deck to mess around with.
I also tried changing up the decklist. I did 2 omenpaths and instead of 4 Bindings I did 3x Virtue of Persistence and another Dopplegang. A little too inconsistent but when it hit it was fun...Especially Doppelgang (9 Meteorites to face...also did 4 Terror of the Peaks off a Surprise deck)
Dennick seemed to work really well in this deck. Better than Restless Plunderer. Maybe switch/substitute? Could a version of this deck work in Pioneer/Explorer/Historic with Tezzeret, Master of the Bridge?
Regarding the format discussion, I'd argue MH3 in Historic isn't power creep, but power leap. The best threats and the best answers come from MH3, so it's not a surprise Boros aggro and Jeskai control are on top. I'm playing mono black midrange, but even then, MH3 reprint Toxic Deluge is the only reason I feel like I have a chance.
What about Pioneer? I actually like Pioneer.... Kinda wish there wasn't so much Rakdos, but, with alot of playable and evolving Decks, Pioneer is somewhat Fun.... Just want it on Arena already.... And, Yes, Standard is a Great Format... Can't wait to See what Bloomburrow and Duskmourn Brings this Year... and, of course that other Set, don't recall the name of....
Can someone explain how that interaction worked to win the first game? He doppleganged to copy 5 meteorites and then Chandra doubled it. So that's 10 meteorites.. Where did the rest of them come from?
I played this deck, copied from championship. Oddly, it works. But is a bit slow for bo1. Roxxane is great. Domain is one reason I am a bit sad to die after rotation. HOWEVER, temur lands will die, so that's a big win 😅
17:35 after hearing this I checked to see if there was a single blue and/or white burn spell in the history of the game (not including effects that prevent damage and then return that same damage to some other target - only those that can be used proactively) found Psionic Blast... it's literally just Char but blue how? was that even printed?

Sorry. Usually, I enjoy your content and like to upvote. But the rant at the beginning sour the video. We don't have to agree on bans/not bans. But the "standard has been great except A, B, and Temur" deck is funny given your history of Anti-Atraxa comments. The temur deck isn't putting up dominating results. And it's cool to have a combo/land deck in standard that so often is midrange piles. "MH3 power creep" is also funny. I think most agree that MH3 is a more balanced set than mh2. New cards get tested. New strategies are tried. I know you have played magic long enough to have seen these cycles happen. I am personally glad MH2 gave us urza's saga or Amulet Titan would have failed to keep up. Mh3 has revitalized white weenie/boros aggro, DS/Dimir Tempo, Tron, Goyf/Jund decks. Scam decks that people complain about have fallen back due to new cards and strategies. Decks always ebb & flow. Decks like Yawgmoth and Titan are still viable. But new toys excite people. The meta will always need time to test & adjust. I just don't see the need to rant using basic buzzwords like powercreep. When magic is getting fun and exciting cards. And the meta (beside Nadu) is rich for exploration and brewing.
I don't like Temur decks and I play 95% online where the shuffling & picking is relatively fast and the mana count is done automatically for both players. I can't imagine how tedious they are to play against in person with multiple deck shuffles a turn for multiple turns in a row and have to manually count mana. The long turns and play lines feel like Yugioh instead of MTG. Things don't have to be OP to be unfun to play against.
Have you looked at legacy results recently? Ub rescaminator was almost 60 percent of the meta. It's gone down some but still over 59% plus the recent event with 6 of the top 8 being some form of the deck Is it broken? Maybe maybe not. Is it an unhealthy pattern that should have been addressed a long time ago? Yes. Nobody likes not being able to play magic because they lost a dice roll when the opportunity cost to run scam is nonexistent for a reanimator shell
