Deck seemed super fun and complex, so many choices!

Kitsa + Monstrous Rage or any Instant speed role is brilliant. Once Kitsa gets a role, the otter would only need 1 spell to fulfill its copy condition in succeeding turns. 1 + 1 (from the role aura) + 1 (from the prowess) = 3

Will Stormsplitter be any good in limited? I don't think so. You can't realistically cast more than 2 spells a turn in limited, and that's only an attack for 4.

That rare class is definitely bad, but it would be very satisfying if you could get it at Level 3 with Coruscation Mage on the board with its token copy. You play a noncreature spell and burn your opponent for six.

Cheeky House Mouse's stats are so funny. Bloomburrow mice being tough makes sense, they're basically just hobbits with fur. Cheeky is a normal mouse, but it can kill a grizzly bear.

Feels like paying mana for the valiant triggers is a little anemic for constructed. Need more of that triggers at the beginning of combat. Maybe the Belligerent Mouse from WOE.

Also a little heads up, there that boros creature from OTJ that doubles abilities that target creatures. Would fit great with mice.

The mouse deck looks really strong. Manifold Mouse in particular impressed just as much as I expected. Emberheart Challenger was insane as well. Totally neglected Spellbook Vendor when I was thinking about how to build the deck though. Awesome include!

I'm surprised this doesn't play like Boros heroic with the pump spells and the protection spells. But I guess its like a mix of mono red and boros convoke.

I think you might be underestimating Season of Weaving. There are certain cards that create a before/after situation: after Agatha's Cauldron every time a creature has a strong ability you must read it carefully; after Narset every time a card says "look" instead of "draw" the same applies; after Nadu all cards with the word "target" are under the spotlight and so on. One of these cards is, without a doubt, Archway of Innovation, enabled by Tamiyo Meets the Story Circle (uncommon saga from MH3, massively underestimated). EXTREMELY good to draw with the Ring on turn 3 (even in Historic where you must pay) or to draw 10 cards for free on turn 4 with Finale of Revelation. Now, this combo, together with Ugin's Binding, made Chromatic Orrery playable again. And THAT is why Season of Weaving is so (potentially) relevant: you can tap Orrery to add 5 mana, copy it and draw 3 cards, for a net cost of 3 cards for 1 mana. It's yet another tool for the Pore Over the Pages / Vizier + Lotus Field "untap everything" archetype, except it sometimes doubles as a sweeper. I know this is a gamble but it will be the first mythic wildcard I'll craft 100%

I'm now curious what it says about me that the deck's I have the most success with tend to be decks like Golgari Midrange. I think partly because the Green value creatures satisfy my Inner Timmy, but the black control cards make them actually viable. xD

I feel like you could just change the color of the text to match the color that the land it fetches produces. So forest is green text, mountain red, etc. Maybe that's hard to implement in terms of printing, idk. Would be neat though

I feel like a lot of competitive folks struggle with rogue decks and "not knowing all the lines" because people just net deck now and "know what a deck is supposed to do". Limited is a great way to learn the types of decks, hone those instincts, and understand how to play to your advantages based on what your deck is trying to do vs your opponent. Card names are different and abilities are obviously different but someone is usually the beat down, etc.

Rakdos Lizards look very good in this set with potential with associate with the outlaw lizards from the previous set

I watched the whole thing. It was super instructive! Hearing both of you discuss lines of possible play, and what would be reasonable to expect in situation x (tactical play) was useful given the particular metagame you were playing in, but the more strategic "what is our plan and what do we need to do to achieve it/win" frames of reference were even more valuable, in terms of cross compatibility. I don't play pioneer, but knowing what the general plan of my deck is vs what my opponent wants to do and how I plan to interact with that is useful for all formats

One thing I would try to add (if @JimDavisMTG had another session with AirBall) would to let him pilot his own control deck and coach him at certain points of the match. *Mulligans, Macro vs Micro plays, when to turn the corner and throw the punches or jabs* AirBall seems to rely on complete board dominance rather than being able to bob and weave like a boxer.

I definitely enjoyed this! If you were looking to continue, an idea that would force him to "do his homework" at least a little bit would be to have him drive a quick draft (so you're not fighting against the clock) and you provide commentary and support. Then move to premier and finally traditional (most likely several sessions/videos) assuming this is something he's interested in pursuing. This way he gets some reps in the limited space and you can guide his hand and decisions towards mastering more the fundamentals that limited provides.

It's hard to coach in the beginning because it means you're approaching the game from a position of superiority assuming you have a greater knowledge and experience than your student. Here it's clear though and Jim has his flowers, and a great student to boot, who you can tell in his own right knows the game of magic but favours differing lines. Great stuff¬

I love playing limited because I do not have to spend a bunch of money to get a deck. I understand that a lot of limited events would build up to make it essentially the same cost; however I just usually do prereleases now for time/money constraints.
