At the end of Game 2 of Match 1, the board was clear with them at 2 and 9 poison with just the mite untapped. But they had resolved Wandering Emperor that turn, which means they could have made a 2/2 token after portal resolves. They might lose later, but they scooped prematurely.
That was game 3, but it was actually a bit of a misplay by Jim. He should’ve cast nexus and put the portal in that way, and then he’d have two untapped attackers. I agree though that OP was unlikely to win.
Watching Azorius control lose is always enjoyable; it's like watching the Yankees, Ohio State, or the Lakers lose. It just makes everyone smile and have a better day.
