- NYU Steinhardt Jazz Interview Series from Southern California. Dr. David Schroeder interviews the legendary drummer Peter Erskine on his amazing musical journey. Topics include Peter's work with Stan Kenton, Maynard Ferguson, Weather Report, Steps Ahead and much more.
Mr Erskine has the word and thought and uses them well. Informative and moving. What a great interview!
Dear Peter, I very much liked the time you took to share your story. No rush, just something very clear to imagine. Thank you
A MAKER OF MUSIC HE IS!!!!!! I could listen to him play all day long
Me too.
Erskine is such a great storyteller. Just like his drumming, so articulate and fun!
My favorite living drummer.. Such a knowledgeable musician.
A few years back I had the wonderful opportunity to carefully maneuver myself two rows back, up front, dead center at ear level to the bass drum of one of the jazz greats to listen to his playing with a college jazz ensemble group. The drummer's name was Peter Erskine. Mr. Erskine was in town (Omaha) for a Jazz Masterclass and performance. His drumming quite literally blew my socks off; the combination of power and touch were transcendent. Having met him the day before, Peter is also an accessible, great guy and great ambassador to music and drumming. Thanks, Peter! Great interview.
Thank you so much Peter.. Your approach and touch, musically on the instrument continues to inspire me daily. ¡Saludos de España!
“….and - you know - playin’ a lot of bullshit “
Thanks Peter, genuine heartfelt drumming and genuine discussion
David Schroeder is an excellent interviewer, which is rare in today’s CZcams world, especially when it comes to talking to musicians.
All you need is 1 question and Erskine can can on forever. An interviewers dream.
Sweet Soul is a long time favorite. A beautiful record.
Stage band camp... I remember it well. As soon as Peter mentioned that - a flood of good memories crossed my mind.
A true artist.
