- From who Peter considers to be his favorite drummer in Weather Report, to how we can all improve our experience as musicians from the simplest adjustments of intent, Peter goes deep into some of the most important stops along the way of his decades-long musical journey.
Steps Ahead, Weather Report, Stan Kenton, and Steely Dan all come up in our conversation as well as details on the importance of his relationship with bassist Marc Johnson and how he reveres studio legends like Jeff Porcaro and Jim Keltner.
We also close the interview with a fantastic Will Lee story that showcases Pete’s humility and sense of humor.
I’m proud to call Peter a friend, honored to have called him a colleague and collaborator for many years, and I’m excited to be able to share this Sunday morning chat with you.

Intéressante conversation.
Fabulous interview. Peter is not only a brilliant musician and teacher, he is a great and generous human being.
THAT was awesome! Thank you.
Nice scoop. I first saw Peter with Weather Report in 1978. A lasting impression. Thanks Janek.
Beautiful human and musician. 🙏
Yeah this is nice. Great musician. Nice stories. Thanks.
He is just fantastic 👌
Bello/magnifico.💪💪💪💪💪💪👑
great I love Peter Erskin, damien....Jaco introduced him to me..they were a perfect musical match
Thank you for this episode!!!Peter was or still is a huge inspiration and one of the greatest musicians out there.I can listen to him forever....talking or drumming...no matter!!!Cheers Niko
"The drums where to explicit. . .. " is my favorite quote 😂
👍Two of the very best 👍
Thanks for sharing these in video form, another welcome element in your beautiful inquiry and storytelling!
Priceless!!
I could listen to Peter play forever but I could listen to talk that long too. He’s just such a gift not only to the drumming world, but the music world as a whole. I can’t remember a time in my life as a drummer, even when I was in elementary school, when I didn’t know who he was. My first drum teacher turned me onto him by giving me a copy of Modern Drummer with him on the cover. It opened a lot of doors for me and still does. Thank you Janek and Thank you Peter!!!!
Amazing episode 👏
the dog!👏👏
Janek, your editing keeps getting better! Love the intro to this episode on CZcams. Feeling extremely polished and professional from where I'm sitting!
Super cool guys ....why didn't you both have a glass of Wein???
Big big BIIIIIIG fan of you here, Peter ! I'm curious to know why haven't you played that much (that I know of) with Pat Metheny ?
They both appear on Gary Burton's album Reunion, but I agree, it would have been interesting to hear more collaborations between them.
I would think a drummer that has so meany drum licks in his head he would be fast talker. Very quick to rattle off thoughts. HA HA
In all honesty, Eskine, must be the boringest person on any interview known to man. Studiousness makes us better musicians :)
