      True, even though Julianne should have beaten Nicole, as much as I like her, for The Hours. Julianne's performance in FFH was easily her finest, and The Hours was probably her 2nd best. I think she deserved the Supporting Actress Oscar for The Hours, as well as for Boogie Nights. She was easily the best in this admittedly fairly weak field, but she's done so much great work over the decades that she really, really deserved this one.

      Also, like DiCaprio, Moore also won on her 5th (acting) nomination (DiCaprio was also nominated once as a producer). Moreover, it was Moore who handed the Oscar to DiCaprio as well. You know who also won their 1st Oscars on their respective 5th nominations? Jeff Bridges, Jack Nicholson, Susan Hayward, and Gregory Peck. Moore and DiCaprio are in very good company in that regard.

      Two major reasons why Julianne Moore won.
      1. Overdue Narrative because she’s never won before.
      2. It was a pretty weak year for Best Actress as only one actress’s (Felicity Jones) movie was nominated for Best Picture.

    Honestly, this was a tough one to choose tbh. All of them were so good in their respective roles. Eddie set the bar so high, but Felicity did an absolutely brilliant job matching him. Marion was... just brilliant, she exudes naturalness. Reese's performance packed such big punch, her resilience, her emotions, it was simply an honour to watch. Rosamund... lol I cannot look at her without thinking "she is a freakishly cold and manipulative bitch" ever again, she was THAT good. And Julianne, I still see the flashback of her final moment from Still Alice whenever I see her, it left such a big impact.
    The actresses in this year's categories could not match up to the performances these ladies gave besides Bree and Saoirse tbh

      +chung2F5 this year was relatively easy-predicted the oscar race for women, Brie Larson was the best along with Charlote Rampling, but Brie had won on BAFTAS, GG, SAG and CC, so she was the clearly frontrunner, and well she got it, also a great and fair choice..

      Two major reasons why Julianne Moore won.
      1. Overdue Narrative because she’s never won before.
      2. It was a pretty weak year for Best Actress as only one actress’s (Felicity Jones) movie was nominated for Best Picture.
      I’m happy that Julianne Moore had finally won her Oscar, but I would’ve have preferred if she had won for either “Boogie Nights” or “Far From Heaven”.

    For me the winner was Rosamound Pike. Julianne Moore did an amazing work in Still Alice though. I just think Amy Dunne is a really complex character and Rosamound was brilliant in that role. Obviusly the Oscar for Julianne is well deserved too. That was a really difficult decition.

    FINALLY!!! So well deserved too. The people acting as if Julianne Moore only won this Oscar because she was "over-due" are deluded. The rest of the actresses in the category gave nuanced or overly-dramatic performances. What Julianne was able to do in "Still Alice" was nothing short of awe-inspiring. She was able to give an immense depth of humanity to her character without resorting to over-dramatized or preachy acting. She was phenomenal and if you saw the film you would agree too.

    • @JustinHenryfan
      @JustinHenryfan Před 9 lety +4

      Frankly I thought Julianne was a bit preachy. She had lenghtly scenes all through the film in which she is in desperation (something Julianne does in every single one of her films, like, we get it already!) not to mention that she is, actually, quite the same in every film (a kind of a shy and reserved, rich, upper-class, white woman (usually even from the 1950's) goes into a crisis of some sort). I prefered Jennifer Aniston in Cake. Now that's a twist that I didn't see coming from an actor like Jennifer Aniston (who usually does far lesser films, not that it's bad, though). That performance is more real to me, more touching and raw. Julianne is very calculated, kind of a bore, not managing to create a belieavable person up on the screen, but rather resulting in portraying a similar woman to herself, the same woman she always portrays.

    • @ThePerksdeLeSarcasmeSiorai
      @ThePerksdeLeSarcasmeSiorai Před 9 lety +22

      JustinHenryfan
      As if Jennifer Aniston is any different. She seems to always play the same awkward but sweet woman who can't find true love until her romantic interest appears. *yawns*
      You obviously did not watch Julianne Moore playing a lesbian in "The Kids Are All Right", a religious fanatic in "Carrie", a dictator in "The Hunger Games - Mocking Jay".
      Therefore, let us analyze the performances instead of throwing insult, shall we ?
      And you should know that every actress needs to thoroughly understand her character before bringing it to life. Thus, every actress is required to be calculated and meticulous in the role she plays. It's called "acting method" for a reason.
      Julianne Moore might have been more prepared as she spent months for research in various Alzheimer's institutions and observing various patients so it was not a surprise that her role as Alice was calculated. The real question is whether she was able to authentically portray the accuracy of Alzheimer's disease on screen (and I can tell that she did the role justice)
      Jennifer Aniston's perfomance was spectacular but not enough for an Oscar buzz. She portrayed the character's anguish of chronic pain well yet the character was tainted with mostly uncontrollable anger and outright realism. It is, indeed, a breakthough performance for Jennifer Aniston but like I said, it is not enough for her role does not have enough edges. I certainly look forward to her upcoming projects though.
      Julianne Moore was able to show every angle of Alice Holland, from when she was lively with much brilliant intellect to her worsening condition of losing everything she knows. The character experienced a lot of losses in her life (her entire family died) and now she had to lose herself as well. The audience was able to feel her joy, pain, frustration, amnesia, and happiness.
      That being said, I agree that the film itself was a bore (along with the lackluster performances of Kristen Stewart and Alex Baldwin). However, her performance and hard work should be recognized.

    • @JustinHenryfan
      @JustinHenryfan Před 9 lety

      ***** You're right, I haven't seen her in The Hunger Games, yet. Nor have I seen Carrie. But I did see The Kids Are All Right, again; this average, middle-class white woman goes through a crisis.
      To move away from Julianne, because obviously no matter what I say about her performance and acting in general, you will not change your mind and that's fine, just as long as one has considered the alternatives. I respect you for giving a thorough reply, actually giving reasonable explanations to your opinions. However, I feel that you are wrong about Jennifer, I thought she was able to bring the movie alive with her performance. The character goes through something, we understand the character (hence not the actor, unlike with Julianne, who, for me, always plays a variation of herself. She brings this articulative, controlled manner to her performances and lets it crack at some point during the film, like with the scene in Still Alice, where Alice and her husband wake up in the middle of the night and Julianne rants about her dicease. And then she goes back to the mild mannerisms of Julianne Moore again). Whereas, again, Jennifer shows great variety not, actually always playing the girl next door, but showing the inner layers of a character, not just behaviour or some character traits that one could undertake with for example Alzheimer's dicease. To me, that kind of acting is not very interesting, doing everything textbook.
      But you have a different opinion and that's why art is so great, it's subjective.

      +Bryan Gaitan That just shows the flawed groupthink of the Academy voters. They see notable actors on a time lapse for years, aiming to reward them with a story arc to "earn" their win, rather than simply looking at the five present day names in front of them. Pike easily should have taken this, she simply outperformed the competition.
