@ORYIN Nope. Thats just how close you become and how much you come to care/support the ones who you create something with. Acting is embarrassing to everyone believe it or not. So when you create something like this, it means you have come to care and support and love the ones who are surrounded by you when you actually do the acting. Acting is being vulnerable as its basic idea. You only can become vulnerable enough to have such an incredible performance like this, if you are surrounded by those who support and care for you to a level that they would never judge your vulnerability. So you honestly end up even closer than most are with their family, so when they are awarded like this. The immense pride and love and joy you have for them is almost indescribable.
Both Rachel and Emma already have Oscars. Emma sits next to her and maybe they are just really so close.

I come back to watch this classic Oscar speech all the time and one of the most beautiful things about it for me is 4:17 where it feels like the shock has worn off and she's finally able to just be excited! That noise she makes sounds like a little kid on Christmas.

You're right, it's the theatre background. Most actors who start out in movies & TV are just trying to be rich & famous, whereas the ones who go through theatre are the ones who genuinely love to act. Think of the most humble American actors (Philip Seymour Hoffman, Meryl Streep, Viola Davis, Willem Dafoe, etc) They all got their start in theatre.

The bit about her working as a cleaner, a job she loved, was the best part of the speech. It shows that often the most humble and wholesome ppl are those that have actually lived life to its fullest... the good, the bad and indifferent as opposed to a life of privilege and ego.
100%! She once said how she and her husband when they first got married and didn't have any money, found some coins under the sofa in the house they were renting, bought some potatoes with it, and shared a meal. Her genuine sincerity is beautiful!

@@Nazaba09 Both Glenn Close and Amy Adams will probably end up winning for an unworthy film in a lighter year, just like Leo, it's more of a life achievement Oscar. That's how this game is played, and while the cinephile in me hates it, I can sort of understand it as an internal mechanism of this institute.

Unforgettable moment for sure but for the best Oscar love and moment after is when Anthony Hopkins won for Silence of the Lambs. That applause and moment was truly epic and hasn’t been matched since more than 30 years later.

Olivia Colman’s reaction was just so genuine. She really didn’t expect that whatsoever. I first noticed her in Doctor Who and then Broadchurch and now she’s being recognised as the talent she really is. She seems like such a warm and caring person. Overall a lovely person.

She is so unbelievably naturally funny, she just has to be herself and she comes across as so incredibly endearing. She RULED in Hot Fuzz as the naughty policewomanofficer, and I'm glad to see her continuing to get roles and recognition for those roles.
She is the most precious human, and I was equally tearing up and laughing with her watching this. This is the speech that sparked my love for her and her acting. What a gem and breath of fresh air in Hollywood!

@@CountryCowboy008 no. not at all. she literally said “this is not how i wanted it to be and i think you’re amazing.” she called Glenn her “idol.” it wasn’t just classy, it was kind and endearing and humble. she acknowledged that Glenn deserved to win (Olivia deserved it just as much, but she’s humble enough that she actually wanted Glenn to win). there’s no “wound.” everyone knows awards are subjective, and Glenn herself absolutely hates campaigning because she does not care about them. as you can see in this clip. that’s part of the reason why she’s never won. she does not campaign like other actors do. you’re suggesting that Olivia intentionally rubbed her win in Glenn’s face. nothing could be further from the truth. it’s absurd to think that. i truly cannot fathom how anyone could watch this speech and come away with that impression.
