Early 18th century. England is at war with the French. Nevertheless, duck racing and pineapple eating are thriving. A frail Queen Anne (Olivia Colman) occupies the throne and her close friend Lady Sarah (Rachel Weisz) governs the country in her stead while tending to Anne’s ill health and mercurial temper. When a new servant Abigail (Emma Stone) arrives, her charm endears her to Sarah. Sarah takes Abigail under her wing and Abigail sees a chance at a return to her aristocratic roots. As the politics of war become quite time consuming for Sarah, Abigail steps into the breach to fill in as the Queen’s companion. Their burgeoning friendship gives her a chance to fulfil her ambitions and she will not let woman, man, politics or rabbit stand in her way.

Me after following a makeup tutorial in youtube
You look like a badger.
@@da96103 how dare you, close your eyes.
😁😁😁😂
Always looking up a tutorial right before you're to meet with the Russian delegation.
Was her make up really a mess or was it just an excuse?
The grotesqueness of Olivia Colman's performance is also tinged with a very palpable sense of loneliness and sadness. That's what makes it memorable.
Mark Guevarra I actually felt very bad for her. We all know what it feels like to be knocked down when you’re feeling up high. However, her line delivery at the very end never fails to make me giggle. So funny!
Mark - Just trying to imagine never, EVER being able to be 💯 sure that the people around you really care about your wellbeing, and aren't actually plotting some coup to harm you...how terribly depressed she must've been in her adult life. 😔
Mark...sooo true. While she was quite a mess, i too felt sorry for her. She also was pretty ill and had her loss along w/ insecurity, childlike behavior, spoiled, etc but the relationship she had w Sarah was quite poignant. It was all very sad in the end. Fantastic performance I think. She perfectly combined the ridiculous, foppishness and very human lonliness of the character; while making us laugh. That "look at me" scene kills me. I keep rewatching it...and her way of limping (gout!!) back to her room like a child who just got dressed down. Such a quick scene, few lines between them...brilliant!!
That's the second time I've come across someone describing her performance as 'grotesque'.
Why grotesque?
Suzy Lux That's what I want to know.
"Are you going to CRY? REALLY?" The disdain in her tone, WOW!
i cryed laughing at the "look at me. how dare you? close your eyes" moment later!
She said that while I was reading this comment...
I dare all the girls to take cool whip pies to the face and put the video on youtube!!
omg i wanted to kill her (Sarah), the actress playing the queen is very good
"Look at me! HOW DARE YOU?! Close your eyes!" easily my "favourite" 😉 movie line of the year.
That one is great, but the best is honestly:
Abigail: My dear friend and cousin, how good to see you've returned from...
Lady Sarah: Hell. I'm sure you shall pass through it one day.
@@AngelofMusic04 I also love Abigail's snort right after. 😂
Ace Edmonds I haven’t even watch the movie yet and I can tell Abigail is gonna be so extra. Very cunning manipulative women according to the reviews
That will be written in my tombstone.
National park LP
When you crave the attention but then realise you don't like being looked at.
jamesaellis The etiquette of the Royal Court at the time was that unless you were Royal you never looked directly at the monarch.
@@mscott3918 I know this. HOW DARE YOU
jamesaellis Shall I shut my eyes?
@@mscott3918 Close yer eyes
jamesaellis I meant close
That scene alone deserves an Oscar. She encapsulated the emotions of insecurities and mental devastation. Bravo!
K J Yes she should have.
@K J : I agree with you. But she deserves it as well
i feel represented h
Well, she *got* the Oscar. 👏😍
Absolutely
"I'm ready for the Russian ambassador...", she sounded so positive then until...
After reading your comment, all I can do is replay this clip and burst into laughter when she says- " I'm ready for the Russian ambassador "😄
Am I the only one who thinks Olivia Coleman would kill it as the queen of hearts in Alice in wonderland.
I think she would kill it every time she plays a Queen. 😉
Boiii I literally said that to myself lol
Yes you are...
@@AnnaJo2000 i just realized she's literally played two different british queens
She would kill anything she does.
I love the way she look like she's empersonating a child. Thats literally how any child act when their mother are cruel to them, the facial expressions, the fact that she poured her anger onto someone instead of her own "mother" at the end...
Very true!
A fully grown adult with the mind of 14.
Yeah its narcissism
I'm obsessed with the way she says "bad-juh"
!!! Glad I'm not the only one. You know, it always feels better to share your weirdness with someone.
i'm not the only one then !!
She is British
How else do you say it??
@Crows - B4 - Hoes us Americans say "bad-jer"
All three actresses in this film were at the top of their game.
So glad Olivia Coleman is getting more and more work the past few years. Been a huge fan of hers since Peep Show, never could have imagined she'd be starring in Oscar calibre films like this
She was great in Green Wing too😂
Sophie is doing good these days
She really is a top tier actress. Tyrannosaur was great.
Man peep show was the best
I love her in Broadchurch
This is not a comedy even though it has its funny moments. It’s a very depressing film and Coleman is brilliant in it
Come on.It was never going to be anything other than a comedy. The liberties it takes are similar to those taken on Elizabeth the Golden Age.
I don't see the film but why a lot of people say is gay ?
@@ahmedzone100 Because the characters of the three leading ladies in this film are gay (or, bisexual). It is kind of a lesbian triangle between them. Which is a story very rarely told in cinema so far and makes this a very extraordinary film.
elektra121 Emma stone character is gay for pay. She only having sex with the queen for power but she prefers men
@@landonle3308 Then why does she not engage in any "fun" sex with her husband? Even at her wedding night? She gives him a rather unromantic handjob while constantly thinking about Sarah. My interpretation is (and you need not follow me in this) that she is very fascinated with Sarah, yet acts this out as a rivalry. She says, though, near the end: "Now we need not fight each other any longer. Isn't that wonderful? Now we can stay together(!) in peace!" Sarah slaps her for an answer, though.
He actually closed his eyes too 😂😂
Who is that cast name ? Looks so funny 👍🏼
@@CheonSong-yi James Malville
@@antoniopiomariascarcella1666 thanks 😊
@@CheonSong-yi Oh sorry , I I got confused : James Malville is an actor who is a footman but not this footman : the footman in this scene is played by Dec Wyer !
@@antoniopiomariascarcella1666 thank you 😊
And she won the oscars best actress!
This scene was so powerful. She was so insecure and so used to Sarah dominating her political decisions, that in a moment of weakness, when she’d just been ridiculed for her appearance, she exerted her power on the only person around who was weaker than her - a child.
ACADEMY AWARD WINNING SCENE OF OLIVIA COLMAM
Anthony Samudio Linares this is definitely her Oscar clip
I agree@@landonle3308
excellent but dont get the ending see it and see what u think no spoilers 😣
@@amyclarke41 The ending is brilliant and perfect. Plus the song Skyline Pigeon. Wow. Amazing
She won
I just saw this and can confirm its batshit brilliance.
I dare all the girls to take cool whip pies to the face and put the video on youtube!!
She deserved the Oscar just for LOOK AT ME scene. Absolutely love it ! Can’t get enough of it , watched it over and over again.
So did I. My housemate and I will look at any situation in the day as the occasion to scream this at each other.
can't stop watching this.
I'm still looking it up to make myself laugh lol
Don't be wrong, Colman's performance is not only the best performance of the year, is one of the greatest in the history of cinema. Pure display of emotions. Bravo.
(bloody true)
A good case for the Best Actress oscar
I agree. Olivia deserves it
She or Glenn Close. Just for the love of God, please not Lady Gaga. I'm honestly over that performance and it hasn't even been nominated yet.
@@AngelofMusic04 Lady Gaga was great no question but not nearly on the level of Olivia Coleman or Glenn Close. Heck even Toni Collete for Hereditary.
I want Toni Collette to win but Olivia would also be great
@@813FL80s
Speaking of Toni she was nominated for an Independent Spirit award! Hopefully her and Olivia will be nominated together at the Oscars.....
The pride when she said "I'm ready for the Russian ambassador".
only to get deflated by Rachel Weisz :( I rewatch it and even though the whole "Are you going to CRY, REALLY" is pretty disdainful, the rest of it does seem caring
Omg I felt so bad for her! I think almost everyone has experienced that feeling at least once when you try something new or do something you're really proud of and a friend or supposed friend completely diminishes it or makes fun of you for it. It hurts in your chest and you really do feel like crying right then and there. Great acting from Colman here.
"Look at me... look at me, how dare you, close you eyes" Even im havent watch it but this gonna be the best quote in 2018
We say it in work already 🤣🤣
my moms favourite line when she is yelling at me sounds similar to this: Look at me when I`m talking to you! Then I look at her and she goes:What you looking at?
Its
Look at me. LOOK AT ME!
How dare you ?!! CLOSE your eyes....
"Look at me.....look at me....HOW DARE YOU!!"
This scene won her the Oscar.
Aww it's kinda sweet how she was so happy in the beginning and even a bit confident
I just found out that Rachel Weisz is older than Olivia Coleman in real life. WOW. props to the makeup department
Sarah Churchill was actually 5 years older than Queen Anne
What?!! 😲😲
Oh my God!!!!!!!!!!
Khoi Nguyen More like props to her genetics lol. Rachel just looks extremely young for her age.
Obese people tend to look older too and Olivia gained 2 stones to play Queen Anne.
the nuances in her voice are absolute perfection
I love a period piece with a sense of humor. This looks delicious.
this is definitely for you then!
I love a period piece with humour too, then I get difficult to please because I also like accurate.
Kudos to the boy for keeping a straight face. 😅
"Look at me! HOW DARE YOU?! Close your eyes!" Made me chuckle.
This is why I love Olivia Colman.
God I really felt sorry for her 😭 she just wanted a new look 😭
cant stop laughing at this 😂
Did you just laugh at this?
(shakes head)
Laugh at this, laugh at this.
(kellen laughs)
How dare you, close your mouth!
its probably this dialogue and its delivery that made her win an oscar
When you really think about it, that line must be so hard to deliver, BUT OLIVIA COLEMAN DID IT AND SHE IS SO GOOD!! OSCAR? HOPEFULLY!
future oscar winner right there, about time
How right your prediction was, g!
Actually yes so wow
You predicted it!
Anne: Did you just look at me? Did you?!
Hallboy:
Anne: Look at me! Look at me!
Hallboy: (looks at Anne)
Anne: How dare you! Close your eyes!
My brother's favourite scene of the film. Freaking hilarious!
This scene is ICONIC.
I think this scene got her the Oscar. She’s effortlessly brilliant.
A well deserved oscar
She deserved the Oscar so much, and against the odds she actually won. Glenn was only the frontrunner because she was overdue, Olivia's performance was such a strong showcase of terrific acting.
Chills... Academy award winner Olivia Colman, genius level performance.
Fingers crossed she wins the Oscar for Best Actress, but at the very least she had better be nominated.
She was and she did.
Everyone talking about Olivia, she is AWESOME! But Rachel is AMAZING too ❤️✨
I saw The Wife and I was happy to be sure that Glenn would win the Oscar, then i saw this movie and Olivia's performance got me really worried....
Love it. Although the scene where she walks through the castle, crying and shouting "WHERE AM I?!" is my absolute favourite. Gives me chills every single time.
Olivia is hilarious omg
Such a terrific film - one of the funniest and best acted I have seen in a long time - I really hope that Olivia wins an Oscar for her performance
This film was heart-wrenching. It’s been weeks, and the ending still keeps me up at night
I saw this film early November at a film festival and go see this as soon as it comes somewhere near you. Even if it's an hour away from you drive to it. It's a fantastic film and one of my favorites of the year so far (no pun intended). Olivia Coleman deserves an Oscar for this performance. God I hope her or Glenn Close get it. All the girls deserve nominations. Especially Rachel Weiz in supporting. It's a masterpiece and Yorgos Lanthimos best film to date.
I really hope that the favourite will win all the main awards in the oscars in few months time. I hope that both Olivia and Rachel shall win.
@@jaakkohamalainen4898 I would love it if Rachel won but I'll be ok if Amy Adam's takes it because she's LONG overdue for an Oscar. Same with Olivia Coleman vs Glenn Close.
I prefer Toni Colette to win. Heard Nicole Kidman gives the best performance of the category though for the destroyer
Mega MovieZ a lot of people are predicting Regina king to win for Beale street. But honestly it looks like Rachel Weisz might be the most likely to win
You didn't mention Emma Stone.
I could watch this scene on a loop and it would never fail to crack me up
Brilliant! Well done Olivia.. !
My favourite scene in the entire movie
Cracks me up everytime, Colman is unpredictability hilarious
Oscar well deserved💕
AND THIS IS HOW YOU WIN AN OSCAR, BRAVA MRS. COLMAN, BRAVA!
Olivia Colman REALLY is fecking awesome in everything she does
Olivia Coleman seriously deserves an Oscar for this. I can't believe it will happen but she absolutely has the best performance this year. Movie doesn't work as well if she doesn't play her character perfectly
Well, it happened. There might be a god.
Good god, you just want to give this great woman a hug. Congratulations Olivia from the bottom of my heart and the rest of the world.
If you enjoy Coleman in this, you need to see her in Fleabag. She has the most impressive range and her delivery is always spot on.
And that is how you win an Oscar.
One of the funniest scenes EVERRRR!!!!
I love Olivia Coleman. I'm so glad she won the Oscar.
Oscar winning line.
Congrats Olivia. Finally you made my dream came true.I love you dearly. All the way from Kuala Lumpur,Malaysia.
I felt soooo related to her childish attitud... How dare you!!!???
my favorite acting scene of 2018. like the best.
This is what got her the Oscar
Colman is marvellous!!! Loving her as Queen Elizabeth II in THE CROWN ❤️
I love this, the acting, the camera placement omg the clothing
She's magical.
this was such a great movie, amazing performances by all three actresses.
I think her makeup looks amazing
I don't know why but this is my most favorite scene in the whole movie. "How dare you!" And it's a good movie. You should see it.
CONGRATS OLIVIA!
“How dare you!!!! Close your eyes!!!!” 😂 Great Olivia!
The fact that he actually closed his eyes at the end. Hahaha.
This was one of the funniest things I have ever seen! Olivia is a brilliant actress and a lovely, special lady - I haven't seen anyone so loved for a long, long time! Just came from watching Olivia exploring her Indian heritage - just fascinating! God Bless you, Olivia 💕
a badger....I literally died
Aww, Anne sounded so happy and proud for that one moment before Sarah cut her down :( Amazing performances!
I still cant believe Weisz will turn 50 next year..i thought she was mid 30s
One of my favourite (hehe) movies ever just because of her performance
My favourite scene of any movie of 2018
I ALMOST FORGOT TO WATCH IT TODAY
my favourite scene 😂😂 Olivia Colman is adorable ❤️❤️❤️
so funny love this scene, she plays it so well
Queen Anne was a chronic pain sufferer, and usually all kinds of emotions go in persons with that condition. Happiness, anger, sadness. Well done Olivia Colman!
Colman's acting and voice command in this film MUST award her the Oscar! There are plenty of other scenes in the movie where she screams and gets angry, her voice 100% genuinely representing her emotions that seem and sound so real.
Well She's The Frontrunner For The Academy Awards... That Line Is So Hilarious & Yet Convincing! Ha ha ha!
I watched her career grow since Tyranossaur (which by the way she’s brillant in). Hoping she wins an Oscar or at least get a nomination.
Come here after seeing her winning as Golden Globes best actress
I like you😘😘
One of the most deserving winners ever. Can compete with previous winning performances like Sophie's Choice, Lion in Winter, Monster, Network, Terms of Endearment, etc.
I first saw Colman in The Crown as Queen Elizabeth II but I didn't know that she's played both Queen Anne and Queen Elizabeth (Queen Mother) as well, IIRC.
Olivia, Rachel and Emma.
Superlative performances.
Olivia- powerful but so child like.
Rachel- strong, disciplined, lover.
Emma- innocent, calculative, greedy.
Too good. Shades of all human personalities in 3 characters.
The writing and directing. Excellent.
I think I've found why this woman is so loveable and easy to connect with emotionally, not only through her movies, but as a real person.
For context, I have always felt that Dame Judy Dench is like everyone's grandma. She has that loveable, hilariously cheeky, at times serious but yet so innocent warmth to her.
Olivia Colman is like everyone's mum. For all of the same reasons.
She just seems so relatable as a person because everyone has known someone like her in their lives and usually its a person they've been incredibly close to. That's why it's so easy to love her. And that's why when you see a scene like this, it's not just the character you feel sad for when she's upset, but it's your direct connection with the actress underneath and her emotional portrayal that gives that extra kick in the gut and pushes you across the line into really feeling a performance.
Oscar winning performance
i honestly thought she was talking to a mannequin until the guy moved. freaked me out fr 😂
Olivia Colman, Glenn Close, Saoirse Ronan, Toni Colette and Viola Davis for 2019 BEST ACTRESS Oscars. If this line-up happen, it would be the strongest since Cate Blanchett, Amy Adams, Sandra Bullock, Judi Dench and Meryl Streep line-up at the 2014 Oscars.
@matias balbin Don't be so sure about that because the campaign for Saoirse is very strong come Oscar season. The reviews of her performance are overwhelming and she might just be the dark horse between Colman and Close. Gaga? Ugh mediocre perfomance in ASIB not worthy of a nomination but she will get nominated because of the hype.
@matias balbin Huppert and Portman were the only strong performances for me. And that was the exact line-up that snubbed Amy Adams for Arrival. What a shame.
Replace Ronan and Davis with Carey mulligan and Nicole Kidman it’ll be a strong category
@@landonle3308 Oh I'd rather replace Toni Colette. You might have forgotten that Saoirse is already a three time nominee who almost defeated Brie Larson way back in 2016. Critics even proclaim her as the next Meryl Streep and her performance as Queen Mary is powerful and pitch-perfect. And Viola Davis, well... she is VIOLA fucking DAVIS, what more should I say?
Alexandro Tirador nah Toni Colette was great she shouldn’t be replaced. Ronan has a chance to be nominated again next year anyways for little women
So this is why Olivia Colman won the Oscar
