- Welcome back fellow Aviators! There is a lot to see from the cockpit of the 210 so check it out! We are headed home after a great show in Lafayette, LA. It is a beautiful bluebird day and we have one stop to make along the way.

True story a man in Texas back in 1960 just bought his first plane. He decided to fly it to his deer lease in South west Texas. No gps just fly the highways but couldn’t find the little grass strip at his deer lease and was getting real short of gas. He flew around looking until he saw a gas station near a water tower with Seniors painted on the side. Landed and taxied up to the gas station to get gas. Man there couldn’t speak English because my friend had flown into Mexico. If it had happened today he might have been in trouble. But no problem they took American cash and after checking his maps off he went

@@TheFlyingSalesman That story is about a local farmer in my home town of Dayton Texas. But it is not the best. This same man had just got his license as an adult and decided to buy an airplane. The city of Dayton decided for Christmas they would shut down hiway 146 and have Mr Holbrook fly Santa in on a Saturday and the whole town came out to see Santa land. Mr Holbrook recruited his retired air force friend to be Santa. This was a brand new plane that he had never flown. When they took off Mr Holbrook said hang on I think I got this, so his buddy hung on for a decent take off. When they were about to land Mr Holbrook told his air force friend how about you landing for me I have never landed this plane before. His friend said what are you talking about I can’t land this plane. Well you are retired Air Force aren’t you. Yes his friend said but I was a mechanic!! The whole city had turned out so see Santa so Mr. Holbrook brought it in for a landing. The story is he bounced it 3 times before he got it stoped and the crowd went wild believing it was all staged. These are both true stories as my family were farmer friends of Chester Holbrook

@@TheFlyingSalesman Ha lots of old farming stories around my part of the country but that was the only two aviation stories that connected
Who is Gladys? Which hardware or software is she part of?
Gladys is the name I gave the voice in the app Foreflight I use on my ipad. It contains all of my navigation charts and airport information. The voice feature adds to my situational awareness. I felt like it needed a name and Gladys just stuck. For some reason the voice reminds of the Gladys from the TV show "Bewitched".
@TheFlyingSalesman HA, that's funny. My daughter and I have named our GPS aids (Google maps, etc) Rhonda (for the song "Help me Rhonda").
I don't use Foreflight at this time, I use Flight Plan GO and don't have that feature. Good to know it is available. I thought maybe It was a G1000 or other installed plane instrument thing. Thanks for the quick reply.
