  • Wait of the World (HOT TAKE: "The Legend of Ruby Sunday"): It’s official: The One Who Waits has been waiting since 1913 (or 1975, depending on the dating protocol). Everything’s gone a bit pyramid-shaped in “The Legend of Ruby Sunday”, as RTD’s multiple twists kept us mostly distracted from the return of this classic villain. So what has he been up to for the last 7,000 years, and how exactly did he seduce the TARDIS into giving itself indigestion? Join us as we drop a few canon bombs, defuse others, and consider which other ‘Doctor Who’ gods might be in RTD’s Disney-money spreadsheet.

    Gabriel Woolf also voiced 'The Beast' in The Satan Pit (because they wanted a voice like Gabriel Woolf and then thought "why not just get Gabriel Woolf?") ... so that's another possible link.

    in the big finish audios he does go back to visit Susan, finds that he has a great grandson and the Daleks show up and end up killing his great-grandson. I think the line is a reference to that Adventure without having to be specific.

    Not seen anyone talking about it, but where is the Trickster in all of this? Wouldn't the Trickster being behind Ruby's mum not only be a fantastic twist, but the Trickster has been known to go back and change the past to cause Earths destruction, referring to the SJA episode where Sarah's past is changed. I personally think, the glitched character in the recording IS the Trickster in hopes Rubys desperation will overtake her and force the Tardis back to that day causing a paradox to occur allowing the Trickster to take power. Just a thought

    The bit about the Doctor's children/grandchildren being from the future also infuriated me. Just another point of the new series' continued disrespect for the Hartnell Doctor. I'm not sure why the new series has this mentality around the First Doctor, but one thing my rewatch and the random journey has showed is just how excellent Billy often is. Taking his family away from him takes a part of his early character away as well.

    • @PullToOpen
      @PullToOpen  Před 2 měsíci +1

      It is a weird "canon bomb," as Chris put it. There are a lot of continuity problems with it (which we'll go into in a future podcast, I'm sure), but it's also just really unnecessary. We already had the mysterious "family" in his past... plenty to explore there without this curve ball.

    Also, I haven't seen anyone talking about this so maybe it's just obvious, but I think there was some revelations about the episode '73 Yards'. There was a line in this episode about the VHS tape of Ruby's abandonment being 66 meters away from the church. 66.7 meters is 73 yards, and also very close to sign of the beast. In the episode '73 Yards' the Woman could not be photographed very clearly as if taken from an old VHS tape. Maybe more revelations to come about that entity that was Ruby?

    It was brilliant and I can't wait to see if it works for my mother and nephew who both have been watching from the 60th and CORR respectively which I think it will.

    I also immediately thought of The Impossible Planet, the Doctor specifically mentioning that the TARDIS sounded 'queasy' like it had 'indigestion' in proximity to the Beast.
    But I doubt Rose is Ruby's mother, and I expect that all the hints pointing that way are just purposefully misleading. Yet at the same time the way they've dragged out the mystery is kinda too much. Ruby's mother better be someone important, someone groundbreaking, someone utterly shocking, or I'll be disappointed. Rose is the right age, and dropped out of school to be with Jimmy at about the right time, but the TARDIS would have picked up a DNA connection when the Doctor scanned her. The ambulance should have also noted her next of kin.
