    I think if River found out, she'd be excited.

    i absolutely loved that episode, the bridgerton/jane austen references being revealed to have a diegetic reason to be there was so cool!! also i think the scenes with rogue were executed so well and lead to a brilliant episode ending.
    i wish it was a two parter tho :(( there would have been easily enough material to explore!

    An issue I have with the doctor having romantic interest in travelling companions is the power imbalance. They are naive to the universe by design and are heavily dependent on the Doctor.
    I did love Rose, don't get me wrong. But if there is going to be a romantic relationship, I like this scenario a lot more. Same as River, they were equal.
    He isn't a bigamist. He is a widower who is falling for someone else.

      100% agree with you.
      I personally see him as a widower finding love again too, but honestly I don't think River would have any problem with bigamy and I think she would be quite interested in Rogue herself too. I couldn't get a 100% complete picture of Rogue himself to get how he would feel about this, but from the small time we had with him I could see him being ok with it too, but I could be wrong.

      Exactly, the issue fir me has never been with The Doctor being in relationships of that nature, it's that they should have it with people on the same level as them so their flirting and kiss with captain Jack, full relationship and eventual marriage with River Song and now their romance with Rogue are things I actively enjoy because they feel like there isn't a weird power imbalance.

    Maybe they'll do something animated where Fifteen meets the Shalka Doctor.

    It was such a breath of fresh air to hear your guys’ thoughts on this episode. I was in my head and overly analytical during this episode due to some very vocal subsections of online Doctor Who spaces, so it was lovely to hear an outside perspective with a blend of long-standing love for the show, candidness, and a degree of journalistic impartiality.
    As for the Doctor being a bigamist, I believe he became a widower after River’s death. That being said, he’s still technically married to Elizabeth I… Even if the Doctor isn’t a bigamist now, he certainly was in the past.

    • @HuntingViolets
      @HuntingViolets Před 2 měsíci

      Only if he goes somewhere after their marriage and before her death is he married to Elizabeth, which is a very small window. Interestingly, was he a widower after River's death? He hadn't married her yet, so I don't think so. Or, at least, Twelve did, I suppose, but Ten (always with the loopholes, Ten), who was with her when she died, didn't.

    • @PullToOpen

      Thanks for the great comment! I suppose he'd technically be a widower for Elizabeth I too, unless he happened to be in the 1500s.

    I really think that Rogue and River would get along like a house on fire and absolutely playfully rag on the Doctor.
    And wow it was weird bringing up Wattpad over AO3 which already has 12 fics.

    this ep felt like an inverted "Empty Child" scenario, wherein the doctor is off getting flirted at by a future man, and the blond female companion is getting in good with the 'locals'.... imo one of the better entries of the season thus far.

    With regards to River Song, I tend to think that from The Return of Doctor Mysterio onwards, the Doctor is a widower; or a widow in the 13th Doctor's case. It's one of the possible reasons why she doesn't feel ready for a relationship with Yaz in Legend of the Sea Devils; she's still mourning the loss of River.
    With Rogue, the Doctor is instantly smitten with someone, probably for the first time since Cameca in The Aztecs.
    While Jonathan Groff plays Rogue well, I had the same reaction to his casting as I had with Maisie Williams in Series 9; I didn't really know who he was. I mean, he was clearly a big deal but I would have walked past him in the street without a second glance. In short, he's not someone on my radar. Don't get me wrong, he's excellent, but the impact of his casting was lost on me, I'm afraid.

    It would be Lady Ruby, as she was pretending to be a single young lady with a courtesy title (although she had the opportunity to play gentry as "Miss"), not a married woman who takes a title from her husband ("Lady Sunday").
    This might have made more sense if it were at some kind of LARPing (not cosplaying) event, but I'm kind of putting it down to the walls of reality being permeable and stories (like _Bridgerton,_ not much like Jane Austen) bleeding through. Ruby's very non-posh Northern accent was very noticeable.

    I think the crying is a recurring clue, similar every episode's Susan Twist sighting. I don't think it's just, 'oh the Doctor cries now.' I think there will be a *reason* for it.

    Bill kissed her girlfriends or am I hallucinating that?
    I didn't really like Donna's "never far from the surface" line. If there was a change, let it be a change, for one thing. For another, Donna knew him a long time ago, and there have been many changes since she did. He was most recently a woman who could have been ace or bi or gay (he probably knows) and if the first or third, this (being gay or bi or basically gay or het with slight tendencies one way or the other -- it's a spectrum) is a change for him. I also didn't love the line about the Doctor not getting things because he's a man, but oh, well.

    Well, bigamy only applies to legal marriages (I'm saying there was no license, etc.), so the Doctor could have a spouse in every century in this fashion and not be a bigamist.

      @PullToOpen  Před 2 měsíci +1

      @@PullToOpen I should say that he could have a spouse in every century and not be a bigamist because, also, spaced properly, they would all die, avoiding overlap. Anyway, time travel's a headache, right? He has two hearts, so more love? Eh. I guess pick your faves and make your headcanons.

    It was an alright episode, even though it was very predictable.
    When the Doctor said dont use battle mode, i knew it'd have an important call back,
    I never felt Ruby was in any Danger knowing the next 2 episodes are all about her, and that girl with her was also an alien.
    How does someone into Dungeons and Dragons not know about cosplay?
    I think the Homoerotic overtone was wayyyy overboard for the Doctor on a first date (soo promiscuous now) I mean it took awhile for his and Rivers romance to blossom, this is Doctor Who, not Torchwood.
    And I thought the contemporary music (Billie Eilish's Bad Boy in first ballroom scene was wierd) but i did like the call back to Kylie Minogue (Can't get you out of my head)
    I'll give it a 7/10.
