When I was in Boy Scouts, my grandma made a portable stove for me. She took a large empty coffee can, poked holes around the outside along the top edge with a can opener (the kind that has the 'v' shape on the end and has a bottle opener on the other end) and filled it with a mixture of wax and wood shavings. I was able to cook bacon and eggs in a small frying pan with it. It lasted for several camping trips.

The first hack involving tea lights is called “Buddy Burners”. I made these in the garage one year and put a steel can over it to create a stove. I was able to cook quesadillas in 10 seconds. Eventually, I was freaking out because I thought I had no way to put it out. I realized that I could suffocate it with a bucket. I almost set the garage on fire, and it is an experience I will never forget.

If you need to fuel a fire quickly use dead pine needles, but be careful of the flames and make sure you're not directly above the fire when introducing fuel. Pinecones might work well to burn for extended periods of time as mini torches

Using candles to make a candle. That’s what I have learnt today
As they pointed out you could use candle ends, like the left overs. Personally I do unbleached napkins/paper towels in cardboard egg cartons and I use the wax that comes on cheese for it. Works better than anything for starting coals up even if it's windy and unlike the commercial "firestarters" doesn't leave a nasty aftertaste on food
Can you guys try freeze drying pop rocks and see if they still pop afterwards

I think its the reason they pop or it wouldnt work as well if there was moisture because moisture from your mouth is what makes them pop
It won't work freeeze dryers pull a vacuum so all the c02 would get pulled out so you would get "flat" pop rocks

In scouts here in Ireland we have three ways of cleaning water
1 boiling
2 purification tablets
3 my personal favourite + safest
I.Get a pot and a cup
Ii. Fill the pot half way up with water( so it doesn't go into the cup)
III. Put the cup in the center of the pot with rocks inside it weighing it down. Place the pot lid (must have a central round handle) upside down in the pot and boil the water.
The water should boil and convert to steam and dribble down the handle of the pot and into the cup
:You can heat it over any fire

When I was younger ,I was in Cubs and on one of our camping trips we made candles like the can ones but with cardboard egg containers melted wax and dryer lint

These are all fun (I've done them before)! another great fire starter I love (and learned in the BSA) is filling a cardboard egg carton with dryer lint and then filling with leftover wax. You can cut it up into individual cups and they are great at providing enough heat and flame to get bigger logs going without the need for tons of kindling or propellant. Give it a try if you haven't before...plus it gives you something productive to do with 2-3 items you normally throw out!

We built those cardboard/wax stoves in grade school. They were called hobo stoves because we would put a tin coffee can with holes along the top and bottom rim, over it. It actually works really well to cook on.

Place the cardboard candle under a 1 gallon size food tin like or coffee can with a small door cut in the bottom for oxygen, and you have a windproof stove that you can fry an egg on.

Steel wool shorting a battery is a classic.
A cooking game I did as a kid was to take four identically sized cans each of meat, vegetables, and fruit. Take the labels off and the kids had to pick four cans and make something with those four cans of whatever. Some interesting combinations led to some pretty great meals.
This may get age restricted because it shows you how to make fire 🔥

Re: pop can burner... we use tuna cans instead, and as a central wick a birthday candle. We then use empty metal large coffee cans as the stove overtop. A church key can opener is used to punch holes around the sides of what was the base of the can. A small opening of the width of the can and 2x as tall is made on the opposite side. The solid metal bottom becomes the cook surface. I learned how to make these at Girl Guide camps in Nova Scotia, Canada.

That self made candle with cardboard is a nice one. I will for sure make a few for my outdoor trips. One of them seems to be enough to be used as little cooker for 1 meal. 3 of them in the backpack and you save your time collecting sticks.

We used to stick gum wrappers into outlet extensions when it was off then turned it on to make little fireworks in English class
all hacks involving fire, calli must have been thrilled to hear about this video
I'm surprised Calli did not have a bigger smile on her face since fire was involved.
As a Boy Scout, we would melt down a ton of wax, roll up newspaper with a string on it, and dip the rolls in the wax while holding the excess string. The result was very similar to the can.
