Something worth noting is for audio desync on Xenia, some have mentioned that changing the max_queued_frames to 8 under [APU] in the config fixed their audio problems, I tested this myself and it happened only once to me after that. Someone else has mentioned that capping your FPS at 60 in your GPU driver also works, haven't tested it myself but with both solutions combined this might solve the issue entirely.

Having played this game on every console (and 100%ed on at least one of them), I can say with confidence that a 60 fps patch for the 3DS version would be the superior way to play the game.
I can't remember how I did it back in the day, but you can set up the controls to read the circle pad pro from the new 3DS in Citra. That completely fixed the second analog issue.
You can play it with MGS4 style controls, aiming while walking, crouching, and switching camera angles like Gears of War, hell you can play the whole thing in first person mode if you want to.
Oh yeah, and the modding community surely will have made new textures by now if that's something you want. But there's still some work to be done before the game is 100% stable. I look forward to that day.

@@chemergency I heard similar arguments to the Twin Snakes, but I always respond to them the same way; its an extra feature you can avoid using altogether if you don't want to experience the game with it.
Also, I believe the game asked you what's your favorite MGS game and made you choose between 3, 4, and Peace Walker, so my guess is choosing 3 could potentially turn it off anyways, but even if it doesn't, you could always just ignore it.

PS2/3 version being smoother just strains eyes less. Unless it's something I can change in config but whatever I tried, Snake Eater Citra version was slow. I enjoy Citra the most cause it feels almost like a remake, bonus points if you have an extra monitor for the second screen. My girlfriend loved Snake Eater the most so far.
My ideal setup for each game:
1: The Twin Snakes on Dolphin, widescreen patch, HD texture pack, PS1 music patch
2: PC version with V's fix and Substance of Subsistence mod (adds 3rd person cam)
3: Citra with 60fps patch, HD texture pack (update the game version or patch won't work, also you need to GRAB A SAVE with CIRCLE PAD PRO ENABLED!!! so you can use analog stick properly!)
4: RCPS3 (remember to update the game version too)
V: PC, stuff the OSTs of the entire saga in the Walkman folder.

Citra does have cheats that allow 60 fps on MGS3D, and you can get analog aim if you set up Citra to emulate the circle pad pro. But you also have to download a save file that has the Circle pad pro already enabled, as citra crashes when the game tries to enable it. Played the whole game on Citra, was a pretty good experience, aside from a few crashes during the last cut scenes. The save states in Citra allowed me to just quickly reload if there was a crash. Played it on my steam deck, was fun and I think one of the best ways to play the game. Aside from the shittier graphics, the aiming and crouch walking make up for it.

TL;DR: substance is alot better then the original, with added bonus content into the game, A much better implemented 3rd person camera system, while having most bugs present in the original version from emulation fixed in this version on PCSX2.

Good video but this update has some errors and misconceptions mostly centered around MGS3D.
7:34 Check that they are entered correctly and enable cheats to use the frame rate code. It might be dependant on if it's a US or EU copy.
7:43 You can enable dual analog via the circle pad pro pad in the options, that said Citra has a bug where it can crash if you enable it. 🫤
(One solution is dumping/using a save/copy that already has it enabled)
General heads up but make sure MGS3D is patched to 1.1 as well.
General trivia that will sound absurd/stupid but MGS3D is believed to run off a fork of MGS4's engine, it's map files can even be loaded into MGS4 and it's animation format is the same too. MGS3D has Peacewalker styled hit markers (that can also be toggled off) and without the circle pad pro it defaults to a control scheme/bindings similar to Peacewalker.
In addition to over the shoulder and unlike PW you can still switch to first person, swap shoulders, crawl (you can even crawl sideways) etc.
1:51 Annnd unrelated "fun" fact, water for the Sorrow cutscene and the cutscene where Snake and Eva first reach the WIG are broken in the HDC. The only way to have the effect display correctly in those versions is to swap to letterbox mode (21:9) for some reason. During that cutscene with Ocelot at 1:50 it's also fixed by being cropped zoomed in more during letterbox mode.😮

About the cheats, I did enable it but it didn't work. I tried multiple actually, the only ones that worked were a 30fps one and a 60fps code that made the game run at 3x speed.
And about the circle pad pro, I didn't mention it because it crashes, so it's not really usable.
Thanks for the info, I didn't know that about MGS4's engine. Must be the same engine for MGS4, MGSPW and MGS3D then. Pretty interesting

      @GuyOnAChair Před rokem +2

@@1Ocelot Since you couldn't get the frame rate code working I feel you could have mentioned the other issues you had/there are with the circle pad pro. MGS3D needs to be updated to 1.1.
If I had to bet, MGS3D crashed right before or during the Snake Eater song. It also has a crash after Eva and Snake bang. 😵‍💫
Were the cheats for the US or EU version? Also once enabled restart to prevent the issue with the speed. Also one work around to use the circle pad pro is to use an existing save with it enabled.

    Regarding Citra
Metal Gear Solid 3 D has support for an accessory called the circle pad pro, which mitigates the problem of not having a second analog stick
Enabling that option in the game (if there's a way to make it work on Citra) should fix that issue so you don't have to remap any buttons.

I love the little gameplay changes and the new textures (I haven’t seen those textures on a high resolution screen so my mind might change when I do)
It’s not as fundamentally flawed as it seems because the new 3D there is c-stick support (second analog stick) and it feels like it run at about 30 on that hardware because I remember it being significantly slower on my brothers og 3ds.
