These are my favourite kinds of your videos, Teoh, very helpful and informative. I can immediately include the information in my own palette considerations, and see new combos to fall in love with! Thanks for the time and precision you give to it!
I have more faith in your information than I have in the information of anyone else on CZcams. You are great.
Thanks 😁
My 2 favorite Reds! I was so happy when I saw this in my email! Had to watch it right away!
I love watching the colors mix 😍 it's like therapy
Teoh, your videos are so inspiring! Many thanks for taking your time to make them.
Very comprehensive and helpful.
FYI not all paints called alizarin crimson are fugitive. Da Vinci makes an alizarin crimson with the following properties:
Very good fade-resistance (Lightfastness II)
Made with Pigment Violet 19 (PV19) dispersed in the finest quality natural gum
High concentration of premium pigment is finely milled for maximum vibrancy
Transparent and staining with some granulation
I have used the American Journey version from Cheap Joe's for many years. No problems whatsoever.
Great video, thank you Teoh! I currently have quin magenta in my palette but after seeing this I'm going to buy a tube of perm alizarin crimson and give it a try. :)
Anything with crimson on it is beatiful and you can’t say otherwise.
Great tutorial! Very interesting to see the beautiful mottled mixes with the magenta and blues. I use permanent rose (pv19) as my cool red. It falls between the magenta and aliz crim, and I find it to be great for mixing both purples and oranges. I use Daniel Smith’s Transparent Pyrrol Orange PO71 for my warm red. They work well together to cover most bases.
I like Transparent Pyrrol Orange too. I'll be making a video of all my reds soon.
I have a tube of Quinacridone Magenta which I like. I put some on my palette and used it up in no time. I do not have Permanent Alizarin Crimson; but, do have other reds besides the magenta. The warm red that I have is called Pyrrol Orange. On paper, it looks more red than orange; but, if I want orange, I can use it with New Gamboge and make a decent orange. If I mix New Gamboge with Quinacridone Magenta, it doesn't really make the kind of orange I like.
Very helpful information, Teoh...thanks so much!
Very informative and helpful, thank you! Great video as usual. 🎨🖌🌺
I always knew teoh is very helpfull, i buy a lot of thing that you reccomend
regarding phthalo green looking blue, I've noticed that in some videos, the camera has a hard time registering that color.
+fufufuaru Yeah, it's so weird. 😂
Teoh, thanks for this review. Alizarin Crimson is not a favorite of mine but seems so necessary at times.
Thanks teoh
Thank you so much for this video. It was most helpful and informative... and exactly what I was looking for. ☺️
So very useful, concise and much appreciated! Ty
Alizarin crimson + pthallo green might be one of my new favorite shades
I learned via a Daniel Smith video that they mix the three pigments dry which means that when you mix them with other colors they act as single pigments do. Not sure if you knew that but I thought that was so cool to share.
instagram: jomaruyart I watched an in-depth video of them discussing the process. It’s three pigments but they act as one or so they claim
Do you have a link to that particular video? I'm curious about if it's anything like mixing oil and water into an emulsion.
Barbeque Sauce let me see if it’s in my liked videos. Hang on ...
Barbeque Sauce czcams.com/video/EMWR1r5-z64/video.html
If you skip to 1845 he talks about the three pigments acting as one
Another great demo Thankyou 👍🤔🇨🇦🎨
this was a fantastic video, very informative and interesting, for a newbie like me, and you have a new subscriber!, I will be watching for more demos like this, I had no idea you could get so many colors from so few tubes
My personal favorite is M. Graham Quinacridone Rose (PV19). Looks quite similar to Genuine Carmine (NR4).
I really love the color of alizarin crimson.. But i did a lot of research on which colors to get for a minimal palette, so went with a magenta instead 😄..but keep getting 2nd thoughts😁.. I don't want to buy more paint tho unless it's really useful , just a beginner here😁
I only watch your water colour videos bc I really really trust your judgement
thanks
Hey! Thanks for explaining and answering my question! 😀😀😀
+Iris Gross No problem 😁
My favorite is Permanent Alizarin Crimson. Do you know if the one from Davinci is as beautiful (1 pigment)?
winsor and newton permanent alizarin crimson colour....WOW. Wish my scoot was this colour!
I would never guess that these would have such similar results :)
+hansendesigns Many colours look quite similar with little subtleties. I've another video coming soon on all the reds that I have that will show the main groups of reds.
Nice video! Could you by any chance review Isaro watercolors?
My favorite is Daniel Smith's Qunacridone Rose, which falls somewhere between those two, but closer to the alizarine.
+susinok That's a beautiful colour. I've another video on all my reds coming soon.
Thanks for all the effort and materials you put into your very helpful videos. As a bonus, many of your videos pick up the beautiful sound of birds singing, are they in your garden?
+Helen Owen Those are stray/wild birds signalling to their friends which kitchen to raid when the owner is not around. 😂
Lol. sound lovely though.
How abt other idk Alizarin alternatives like Pr264 and Pr177
Very helpful video. I have both of these DS colors in my palette and have concluded the same as you. Magenta for violets, AC for oranges. What red do you use for your warm red? I'm using Transparent Pyroll Orange from DS.
I likeTransparent Pyroll Orange for warm red too.
Me too - it’s a beautiful colour.
Wonderful video!
How about an Alizarin Crimson shoot out between an original alizarin for reference and various brands of permanent Alizarin Crimson mixes...see which one is closest to the original. Cheers
In Permanent Alizarin Crimson from winsor and newton PR206 is being replaced by Quinacridone Magenta pigment PR179. I think the question relates to is the change liked or not? (Ie do we buy up all the remaining PR206 before it is discontinued?!)
I love when you do these color exercises. They are very helpful, and I remember them...I don’t remember them as well when I read about color mixing. And it’s so cute when you say “this is how it looks like” ( it should be “this is WHAT it looks like” or just “this is how it looks” ....but, I think they should change it to the way you say it! 😉)
+Chainsaw Kitten Thanks 😁
Nice effort but it would be useful to see the difference between perm aizarin crimson and carmine or/and pyrrol crimson
+Vag Giasla There will be a video coming soon comparing all the reds I have.
Vag Giasla well, buy some paint and see. Your so entitled 🙄
Teoh you should make a vid on the Artist loft watercolours they're really low qual opaque and chalky hearing you criticize them might make for a fun vid
[Insert pop culture reference] 😂
Quinacridone Rose is the better choice in between , Phthalo Green blue shade + titanium white + Quinacridone Rose will make moody blue violets
