Fishing Hathaway Bridge in Panama City Beach - Giant Baits for Giant Fish

- The Tavagliones and I headed down to fish under the Hathaway Bridge in Panama City Beach. We brought multiple big game setups from an Avet 80W to cast out shark rods. We put out whole bonita, whole bluefish, cut ladyfish, and multiple live bait rigs with pinfish of all sizes. The fishing was slow until after dark when we finally hooked into something big! Ahhh…Memories! Used to fish the old Hathaway Bridge back when it was metal! Didn’t catch crap… At the time you could see all of the liberty ships being prepared for their lives as reefs all along the coast. Got pics…
I live about 1-1/2 mile from there.
We fish that same area quite a bit. But mostly straight out towards tower in front of you

Great catches! Unfortunately many boaters and many other shore fisherman have no etiquette. I purposely avoid others cause I can’t deal with tangled lines and such. But as soon as I start catching I get swamped by others.
Iv had some monster hookups at the Hathaway but I've never fished the walkway

Me my brother and my dad went there and my dad had a pinfish on with a size 4 circle hook. Out of nowhere a huge redfish came by and took it and my dad hooked it, but when we brought it to the railing the redfish bent the hook and it slipped out. My dad was mad and the hook eagle claws brand.

Believe it or not I caught about a 20 pounds red snapper under that bridge a couple years ago
I believe it for sure. I have hooked so many huge fish under that whooped my butt!
I would have said “ come say that to me again on dry land” typical no idea boat fisherman haha they have the whole ocean to fish
I have fished there for 20+ years. But the last two trips, under the bridge was filled with trash, feces, and homeless people. It was sad to see.
How recent was your last trip to the bridge? I was told PCB police were trying to really clean up that area.
