In this video, I delve into the world of metal art to create a horse sculpture from beaten bronze. "Beaten" refers to the process of hammering to shape. This process can also be referred to as embossing or repousse. It is also sometimes referred to as forging, which is not entirely accurate as forging, by technical definition, involves heating metal and changing its shape through compression (hammering). This "beaten" process can loosely be referred to as forging, in that a hammer is used to deform the sheet metal, thereby changing its shape.

My father was selling non-ferrous metals to artists in the greater Toronto area for decades and I'd tag along to the workshops. Then as an adult I got the bug to make my own. Flash forward I now record sculptors at work from raw materials to finished art in exhibitions. It's a privilege to capture details so people appreciate what goes into these creations.

This is (once again xD) MAGNIFICENT WORK! That´s like what you´re offered to look at when you´re on a vacation trip visiting ancient greek ruins.

It seems like getting started on a project like this must be one of the hardest parts, because after 3 passes of hammering out at the start, it looks like nothing, and its not until later you can really see it becoming your vision. But Wow what a vision when it comes together!

Bro I really think you should try making something to resemble the persian bull statues. This horse somehow reminds me of them, and I think your style of working would suit it very well. Also the lines in the persian bulls are very nice to look at

Inspiring! I want finally to get started on learning repousse. Was bummed to see that your next repousse class is this month, can't make that, but as a USA citizen, I'll keep my eye on your site's schedule. Would you consider online courses outside of the serious amount of info you've already put on this channel?

Just blew my mind with the 3/4 perspective explanation. Denial and acceptance and then again Blam! Mind further blown. Got it though. The illusion of depth requires “stretching” the horse too match what our brain perceives. Mind again blown. Thanks for dumbing down that explanation so I can comprehend 3/4 of the 3/4 view process…
BTW, “War Horse”, the theatrical production and later the movie had great models for their props. Love the detail in that magnificent horse!
