When Anthony Crawford picked this one, I took notice. For those who think this is too much, I bought a brand new Honda Accord Euro in 2004 for 34k! It now has 250,000k's and its still tight. And here we are 20 years later and this car is bigger, faster, uses less fuel, more equipped and priced from only 40k. Meanwhile my house has gone up 500% since 2004. This looks a good bit of kit.
Using the RBA inflation calculator, $34k in 2004 is equal to about $54k today. $40k for this is the first time Honda’s priced a new product well in the past few years. They should’ve offered more affordable variants of the Civic as well.
This is so strange to see.. Cos I'm about to trade in my 2004 HonEuro for these Z's.. I'm just scanning which one would be appropriate.. You can then honestly tell me; which of the two are best for buy/drive.. ..cos my 04 Euro's Vtec has never failed me, still all original with no damages, including use in defensive driving course..
I bought one of these and am really happy with its performance so far. Not sure about the lane assist but all of the other features work fantastic. I am averaging the 5 l per 100 km plate as stated by Honda. I have sat in all other SUV's before buying and this is clearly the most comfortable and I am a fairly large guy. Everything is within reach and the drive is really smooth. The pickup is extraordinary, I have been driving an Audi A4 over the past 15 years and thought this in normal mode was a great alternative. I haven't used sports mode yet as I am so impressed with Normal Mode pick up. The leather interior and the bold exterior are really stylish. Honda has finally made a mends for the cheaper cars and specs they have been plying in Australia. Well done Honda. Please note I am driving the Hybrid version.
I have this car (the 1.5 turbo version) and i have to say i believe this is possibly the best handling SUV ever built. If its not the best it has to be up there. Seriously corners winding roads like a type r.
Just bought one - ZRV, petrol base 1.5L turbo, its a superb machine, made in Japan! Re-living the dream, steering and braking is phenomenal, interior is reminiscent of Honda's retro days, sitting in Osaka's sake bars - enjoying icy cold udon noodles! It's not going to be fitting for everyone, but let's just say you missed the boat. This car - ZRV is unreal, Type R Civic is on the way (wife is most upset), sold my beloved Integra type R a few years back, saddest day of my life If you're not in love with the ZRV after your first drive, well IMO you're living the matrix life.......
Exactly the ZRV is amazing my family we just picked up a vtil grade ZRV and it is premium in terms of quality and features also driving experience is nice part leather and part fabric seats and also ambient lighting accessories

Great job Paul, you really did great here. The inclusion of the lane departure warning, lane tracing, prevention and integrated cruise control/assist made this video a perfect one. Buyers can actually see how it works before buying because some manufacturers don’t do this well at all.
Front end styling aside, this could be the car that gets me back to a Honda. Nippy performance , a top interior and a good amount of space . Fuel economy good as well. Great review Paul.
Also, in Japan the ZR-V is straight up the replacement for the CR-V and that's why this exists 😂 This looks way nicer than the American version (In America this is the HR-V and therefore it's cheapened out, this actually looks nice!)

55K driveaway no dealer haggling bullsh*t. Tested one for 90min on highway/back roads in NSW - would get as my next car in 1.5 years to replace my Corolla Hybrid. Drives much better than Toyota hybrids.
$6.5K difference between the ICE 1.5T LX & eHevLX without a panoramic sun roof seems a bit much. I think the ZRV will sell a lot better if there is an AWD option, even if it means additional cost for the benefit.
I think you may have been unlucky with the lane keep assist or maybe the dealer needs to recalibrate it. I drive the zrv hybrid daily (minimum of 130kms on the road daily) and have never once had it not keep me in the lane/middle of the lane.
Slotting between the HRV and CRV seems like a non-existant gap to fill. It's only negligibly bigger than an HRV and probably not worth the price premium.
I disagree, the current HRV is a dinky little 4 seater that I think is overpriced. The new CRV is now almost a large Kluger sized SUV. A well equipped $40k medium RAV4 or CX-5 sized SUV is exactly what Honda needs.
Here in the Middle East Dubai to be precise.I was in the market to buy a car with a budget of 25-28k USD Initially decided to go with kia k5 but then the base model is without any features. Recently went to Honda after a long time tried the ZRV ex which is a good car but still was not impressed with styling of the car from the back. Looked like a 90s car so went and I feel it’s 1000 bucks more then it’s price should be. HRV is better looking then but underpowered with 1.5 engine. So paying a little more but going with the Mitsubishi outlander. I am getting a 2.5 engine with 4x4 support.
Hey Paul, we have watched your review of the new Honda ZR-V e:HEV LX hybrid on CZcams so many times I could read you the script. We took the car for a test drive today and was very impressed. Love the shape and design. Have seen a couple out on the road also. So impressed that we are going ahead to purchase one. As novices with hybrid vehicles, will we save much on fuel? Price wise, not exactly cheap but not too bad, I guess, for what you get. Regards Brian
@brianyounh9182 I’ve had my hybrid for almost 3 months and driven about 5600km. Mainly urban driving with some highway involved. I am averaging 4.4-4.6L/100km. Although, I do only use 98RON fuel as that’s my preference. So I’m not sure if that’s why I am getting better fuel efficiency. I am extremely happy with my ZRV. Good luck and happy motoring
Honda's fixed price no haggling business model worked well for them I hardly see any of them on the road now 10years ago they were every were a true competitor to the Rav4

Could you please do a head to head (if you can) will all the competitors including the Chinese Brands (i.e. Haval and MG even Chery?). Also, could you do a review (on and off road) with the updated Jeep Compass. Thank you so much for taking the time to read this. From a fellow West Aussie!!!
Oh and one thing also, huge kudos to the way every video is presented to both Paul and his team. Format is very well executed. I wish carwow learnt a few things from you guys.
Is it really a review though? Or a spec sheet. As usual, no real opinion expressed on failings. Windows not going all the way down, old school rear middle seatbelt….
Please correct, this is size compared to Corolla Cross not RAV4. Don’t compare it by price but size. And ZRV Hybrid is compared to Atmos Hybrid or Kona Hybrid N-line 2wd. Please compare those too
I like your content Paul, "car expert", but this has got to be corolla cross size not rav4 size? Also the BMW M2 manual competitors are the auto only german passenger cars? why not the Nissan Z manual and toyota supra manual? all turbo 6 cylinders. Japanese cars have always been the cheaper alternatives how about a three way comparison?
Quite intrigued by ZRV initially. but mates, this asking price for something which sits below even CRV is ridiculous. no seven seat option, boot space is puny. Even mitsubishi ASX is better buy than this car.
Didn’t try the large bottle in the door. You talk about a dark interior YET this vehicle has light ceiling and pillars. Many cars you review are totally black inside and you don’t criticise them. I detest all the black they insist upon these days and I bought a car with an ivory/cream interior for that reason. Black seats are far too hot in Queensland. Under 3sec braking time from 100-0 is good. Most vehicles you test stop in over 3sec.
Great review, Paul. Like how you objectively test all cars on the different sections of the test track. Personally, you could leave out the durometer bit and just let us know what is soft or hard. Thank you for great reviews.
We've ordered one and should be collecting it next month. Just an intriguing car. But I wish they'd offer a better choice of colours in the UK. That burgundy red thing you were driving looks nicer than the bright red we've ordered. I think the problem with the lane keeping here is the camber in the road causing the car to drift left. Lane keep assist will only make small adjustments and it looks like the camber is causing it to have to make more of an adjustment than it's been programmed to do.
Disappointed. Currently have a CRV but was planning on getting a smaller honda.. BUT the zrv & hrv appear to lack a sunroof and electric memory seats. Will be sticking with our current model. Cheers
I have a new January 2023 Honda CRV. VTI-LX. AWD. Great handling. Very happy after 4 months of ownership. Hoping for good reliability. The lane keep assist does work well on the highway however you must keep both hands on the steering wheel at all times or the orange warning flash does come on repeatedly. You can feel the cars steering adjustment operating under your own hands. You must be travelling at 74klms per hour before that feature will operate. I prefer the style of my CRV over this ZRV.
G’day Paul I’ve been a fan of Honda for years, till now! What does it look like? To me it looks like an old Toyota Corolla that has had a really bad botox job! At 5:45, what's traffic jam assistant? is it the same as Full Range Adaptive Cruise Control? I use this all the time in a Kluger gen 4 for stop/start and congested traffic. Stress relief!
I drove one about two months ago. I needed up buying a Skoda Octavia for the space. However, I was impressed with the ZR-V. Despite its external size I felt the interior was more comparable to a Golf or Civic. It also has the stance of a wagon more so than an SUV, it's oddly packaged. Where it could be better in my opinion, is the cargo capacity and infotainment. Considering its size I would be expecting 400-450L rather than the 380L approx. it has. The infotainment is quick, responsive, and high res. But the screen is pretty small by today's standards. Interestingly, it's android based but not android automotive. I'd love to see Honda roll out the Android Automotive infotainment system with the larger screen and instrument cluster maps from the US Honda Accord. I think that would really bring it into line with its European competitors and rise above the Japanese competition. Other nitpicks would include, no glovebox light and no easy release for the rear seats. Ambient lighting is also a very expensive optional accessory? I would have like to Honda offer the panoramic roof and HUD option in Australia as they do in Europe. The cabin quality was outstanding - everything I touched felt nice.
i don't get the boot packaging in hondas these days - 370 litres is the same size as an MG4 and my MG ZS EV which seems ridiculous - so not really a replacement for my CRV and didn't really want to have to go bigger again so will wait and see what the new crv review is like
That tail lamp would have looked better if the led went all the way around, instead of leaving it only in the bottom half. Honda logo should be on the grille.
I'm Canadian and our car prices can be expensive for same model in US, but why are cars so expensive in Australia? Most Asian car companies are so close to you, is it taxes? Aussie dollar that bad? Also, I think this car looks a lot like the current Ford Escape.
Economy of scale mate. We are a very small market for global car companies to provide right hand drive Australian compliant vehicles to. In Canada, you can source your cars from american factories with a high volume of production
Market is right also above in their comment but we pay over for items that cost the same to deliver ie online software. If the French had to pay what we do for houses they would riot
I like it, but it only received a 4 star safety rating in Europe. ANCAP is yet to give its star rating for the ZRV in Australia which is concerning and holding me back from signing. Any news on when ANCAP will give its safety rating.?
@@mharro88getting lots of stuff on a spec sheet doesn’t mean something is valuable. The Honda is properly engineered and will last decades. BYD vehicles aren’t even correctly treated to prevent them from rusting in normal conditions.
Appealing to very two different types of buyer. The BYD buyer would be looking for an EV, happy to try a newcomer or something more experimental. The Honda buyer would be looking for a traditional petrol/hybrid car that drives well, from a trusted brand, still an all-new modern car but less experimental and more like the car they already have.

@@rforracemode5846 Exactly. It doesn't so that's why it's unsuitable. You may have to be towed a long way in the country. (There is no room for a space-saver in the ZR-V as the battery occupies the usual tyre space. Same problem in several other hybrids.)

My ZR-V LX Hybrid had the Ambient lighting as standard... it is very beautifully implemented.
The HR-V we wanted in the states..
i don't get the boot packaging in hondas these days - 370 litres is the same size as an MG4 and my MG ZS EV which seems ridiculous - so not really a replacement for my CRV and didn't really want to have to go bigger again so will wait and see what the new crv review is like
That tail lamp would have looked better if the led went all the way around, instead of leaving it only in the bottom half. Honda logo should be on the grille.
Which feels more premium? The Civic eHEV or the ZR-V Hybrid?
When you going to review Honda CRV 2024 mate.
Mr Marik, what is your 0-100 app?
The app is called Dragy
@@fifa1018 thanks
Hi Paul, please review Qashqai E-power to compare it with rivals like ZRV and Corolla Cross
It's a really good-looking SUV! I wish if we had an AWD option!
Hi Paul. I am very interested in the new CRv now available to purchase in Australia. Could you do a review please.
Disappointed in not have a spare tyre !!!!😅😅😅, I suppose stranded on the road with a possible flat tyre😢😢😢
No awd ?
Beautiful job Honda on the naming 2 completely different cars called hrv
Colours in uk £650-950 black free but no date for delivery!
Paul. When will be you are reviewing all new Honda CR-V .
In the coming months.
Any updates on the crv?
What’s up with gear shifter designs with rotary or buttons. I always prefer a proper shifter
We're gouged and we put up with it.
Market is right also above in their comment but we pay over for items that cost the same to deliver ie online software. If the French had to pay what we do for houses they would riot
It would be great if you could add approx range you get on a full tank for future reviews!
how does this compare to the toyota corolla cross hybrid
I like it, but it only received a 4 star safety rating in Europe. ANCAP is yet to give its star rating for the ZRV in Australia which is concerning and holding me back from signing. Any news on when ANCAP will give its safety rating.?
EnCap is using the Chinese made version. While Jncap gives it a 5 star (same model u getting in Australia )
Hi Paul, when can we expect a review on new CRV in Australia? Demos are already in.
In the next month or so hopefully.
Similar pricing to the BYD Atto 3. Buyers might cross shop between this 2
Byd is way better value.
@@rsoul7282 show me evidence that that's the case? That was MG with their earlier cars not BYD.
@@User-cb4jm and that's fine but the byd actually drives and rides better than this. Many reviewers on here have labelled it the best affordable midsize SUV to drive this year its not just a EV. BYD isn't experimental they've been around for decades
Does anyone know how long the warranty is for the Hybrid battery in this ZRV?
the salesman i spoke to at eastern honda, said it's three years on top of the five-year warranty.
No AWD available in Australia but available in Japan. Also no sunroof even as an option,
no spare tire? that’s a bit disappointing
Not a car for country dwellers.
@@worrywart1311 why? it’s a midsize SUV, should at least have a space saver…
@@rforracemode5846 Exactly. It doesn't so that's why it's unsuitable. You may have to be towed a long way in the country. (There is no room for a space-saver in the ZR-V as the battery occupies the usual tyre space. Same problem in several other hybrids.)
I'd like to see a review of the new CR-V X (1.5 T) compared to the Mazda CX-5 2WD (2.5)
Is the dash fascia, mesh looking or open mesh pores? If it is open, what a dust collector.
Now crv and zrv are in the same segment??
not sure but almost since crv is slightly bigger than zrv
In Japan, the ZR-V is the replacement for the CR-V.
The current CRV is in runout mode. The new CRV is much larger so both CRV and ZRV will be in two different segments.
Does anyone find the bit of music before the conclusion, weird? Just doesn’t fit the CarExpert reviews because there’s no preceding music. So it seems weird to have 3secs of oddball retro 1950s movie soundtrack, at the end.
Looks like they tried to copy Maserati with that front end.
The ZRV in the Middle East is 1.5 twin turbo. Feels under powered we wanted 2.0
When are you reviewing the new CR-V?
WHY DO YOU NEVER REVIEW THE REAR SEATS PAWL!!!!!!!!!!!!!???????????
Where do you do your reviews?....If looks like a runway!!! BTW, it looks pretty good, I like the exterior better than the interior.
a curved banked runway ?
It's the Lang Lang Proving Ground. Holden's old development track/test area outside Melbourne.
