I remember when I first got into MHG and I was studying your tutorials to get into every weapon, this really takes me back. Nice job of this tutorial Gaijin!
Enjoyable? Yes, always you are by far the best informer, entertainer, fun to watch, never boring, creative, Monster Hunter guide that I can always count on when it comes to knowing how to play better how to use weapons and you and you daughter are always a joy to watch when playing and making videos .👍👍
Gunner isnt as complex as many think, sure it has a ton of vocab like crit distance and different shot types (which were ruined in world bc bows were apparently too complicated) but it ultimately boils down to shoot when your arrow makes the biggest flash, and use coatings.
I was frightened with how the Bow worked in MHGU since I absolutely love it in MHW. But I think this tutorial has eased my worries, I'm more than happy to dive into GU now with my beloved Bow!
That new hunter art! As always, the art direction in this series is top notch! I think I can probably spend hours just watching these cool looking moves over and over. No wait... I CAN. [plays another 1342346756 hours of MHGen]
The bow was my first weapon in 4U and your tutorials were super helpful. Now I’m learning the hunting horn too and looking forward to trying the bow out again in MHGU!
Really cool seeing the footage swap to the switch version after the OG tutorial. Love watching these to help my friends get into different weapons, even if I don't play them. Thanks Gaijin!
oh i just see in playlist can't wait to see all tutorial and i just play Demo MHGU well my classic monster hunter skill still there and adept is very fun but fight Valfalk i use long sword striker and it work LOL can't wait for to play full game
So many people saying, "Ugh, that's why I only use THIS weapon, because THAT weapon is too complicated" I say, try to just go for it. Just don't go in those intense missions, rather go for a boss that you have already memorized. Then try a weapon that you haven't used yet, or afraid to use. Sometimes, the things that amazes you without knowing wtf actually happened helps you discover more of what you'd like. I bet you'll end up mastering it by unexpectedly spending time/interest learning about THAT weapon.
Exactly, you can't slate something until you try it, just pick a easy hunt hell even a gathering run and just mess about. I'm not a fan of Hunting Horn and Bow but I know how to fully use them and recognise them as good but I just don't enjoy using them.
I used to be an SnS junkie back then. Until I realized: I fucking bought this game, along with all the things offered inside of it. Now, I'm a proud HBG and GL user. 😅
Oh boy, I can't wait for great sword valor style! It's my main weapon and style, and now I get to see your legendary detailed tutorials for it! I hope I learn something new, like always!
Im new to the series. Rise being my entry point. Been watching 3rd fleet podcast since episode 1 and that lead me in buying a switch + mhrise. Loved the game, that lead me in trying mhw in my friends ps4 and now planning on buying, that friend of mine lend me a copy of mhgu. Im here after using weapon roulette and landed on bow. Thank you for the guides even though i havent put it to good use im still in the early stages of the game(about 16hours). Thank you thank you :))
I just picked up this game after playing Rise and all the weapons are so different from the new ones! Thank you for the amazing guides, hope you are having a fantastic day!
Wow I really needed to know how to you use the bow with the new styles! Thanks Your amazing! Not only that but now I know more on the bow I didn’t know before! You my friend are a monster hunter pro!
Oh how I've missed the bow! I was a bow main prior to MHW, but the bow in MHW just didn't click with me that I barely used it in MHW. The bow just feels so different in other MH games. Also, after trying the demo, I was afraid It would feel somewhat alien to me after playing MHW, but turns out I actually didn't really miss MHW. If anything, it actually felt great to be back to this style of hunting, it felt like home if that makes any sense.
THIS! The bow in MHW didn't click with me at all, which is kinda sad, because I was really hyped for it. I just don't get how to use it properly. I tried multiple times, but it feels so ... off.
Das kleine Irrbis yup, and crafting the bow didnt feel as rewarding in MHW either. Alot more time and effort was required to make ur bow in other games, also because the different shot types made each bow play differently too giving each bow its own "personality". Not to mention having weaker armor making things more challenging. I can go on and on, but glad to hear im not the only one that was not satisfied with the bow in MHW.
Alchemy is actually quite good with certain Pierce Bows. Really good synergy with the hunter arts and power shots aren't always the best with Pierce. It's hard to build in Shot Booster/Load Up and Power Shot Up. You really want to keep moving and line up shots to go down the length of the monster. Evasive Maneuver makes every hit critical distance which is awesome with Pierce, level 1 is XS charge level which is perfect for Alchemy. A lot of the good Pierce Bows also have Paralysis and Sleep so it's easy to setup Triple Volley and Sleep Bombing. Rustrazor gets pretty much every coating type but it's hard to get 100% affinity. Silverwind has 35% base affinity, Power 1 and 2, Paralysis and Sleep. No pierce level 4 though. Both bows also get the awesome Wide valor shot which is actually really powerful on it's own. I don't even bother switching against some monsters, just spam wide valor shot in their face. I've been taking the Rustrazor Bow on longer hunts and it's fantastic. Pierce also seems really good at applying status effects. I can usually land 2 statuses without status attack up, as long as I'm not wasting any shots. tl;dr Alchemy Pierce Bow is good for multiplayer and certain matchups or long hunts.
I remember watching your old MHG videos on the weapons and that's what convinced me to buy Gen Ultimate despite World being my first game. Keep up the good work, I'll def be going back to these when I get the game at the end of the month.
Dear lord I am about to jump off a bridge unless someone can FINALLY include the Valor Power Charged Special Shots ( sheathing stance + charge ) motion values so I can finally calculate my valor damage vs adept damage but literally not one bow guide has ever even mentioned it even when those specific shots are being discussed... Lol while I'm not gonna dog you for making an awesome guide I hope my frustration makes sense right now when I was sent here from reddit cuz of several glowing reviews of your videos people mentioned to me. Now I'm sitting here after, yet again, being fed a bunch of info I've gone through on like a dozen guides for 20 minutes and literally all motion values were provided EXCEPT the ONLY ONE I need and have been tirelessly looking for!!! WHY INTERNET??!!?? WWHHHHYYYYYYY??!??!?
Hey Corey. Thanks for the comment and not to make excuses for others, but I did my guide when the game was first launched, before we had any official guides on motion values as that usually comes months later so hopefully that solves the "why" part ^^. I looked in the official Japanese guide and it says the modifiers for Valor are: [Valor power shot follow-up (press A after a power shot)]: 1.3x damage modifier [Valor Stance charge shots (which might be the value you are looking for):] - Wide: 2 motion (3 motion for each extra hit which you get if you hit at right distance) x 3 hits - Focus: 2 motion (6 for the extra hit you get if you hit at the right distance) x6 hits - Blast: 2x3 motion (blast motion 15 x max 3 hits). *1.1x break damage *Note there is no critical distance for these shots, but if you are outside then you get less hits). [Valor Mode gauge increase modifiers per charge level]: - Charge LV1: 1.0x - Charge LV2: 1.2x - Charge LV3: 2.0x - Charge LV4 (Valor mode only): 2.5x Please let me know if this solves what you wanted to know! The value of the actual charge shots from valor sheath stance are not that large considering 2x3 hits = 6 motion and a single level 4 rapid is 12+4+3+2 = 21. You are basically using it only to build up your gauge not deal damage.
Please let me know when you see this, I tried to find you on Twitter to also let you know but no luck. Just want to make sure I solved your question :)
@@gaijinhunter Man, the only reason I'm not a noob anymore is because of you. Don't even doubt it. Keep up the amazo fantastico work you are doing with your channel 😉
I don't think this bow tip was covered in the video, I also haven't seen it mentioned else where: Firing the bow after rolling backwards (or forwards) off any ledge, with your weapon drawn, will do mounting damage. It can also be used to damage backs. Note that shots are aimed towards the center of the screen. So just move the camera as needed.
I’m playing 4u like a madman right now, I was hr 185 in gen before I switched back over to 4u..obviously 4u is the best mh ever but I do like the styles & hunter arts in gen..13 days until I finally start using my switch again!!
Aerial bow feels so good now. I really wanna dive into those armour skills and heavy shots, see what I can pull out. You could be a really good stun/part breaker support with it I think.
Does anyone else dislike the power coating? Not all bows have it, and if you’re not using a bow with power coating at end game when dps really matters you’re missing out on 35-50% damage. I’m not a fan of some bows just being completely useless.
I just discovered this game a week ago. I played some MH3U but never got terribly far in that game. I'm really enjoying the game so far! The arts and styles really add a lot.
Something you missed is for the Special Valor Shot. It's a different kind of shot depending on the Arc Shot (Blast is the one shown). Wide Arc Shot is best I think especially with Pierce Bow (Nargacuga Bow). If you hit the head (or possibly the weak point) of a monster it deals stun damage and splits into shrapnel to hit a few times like Seregios' Blades. Focus I think was just a single shot that's basic but still useful. I'm experimenting with each Arc Shot and I'm enjoying both Valor and Adept Bow. Currently also using a Mosghoul, Royal Ludroth mix set (HR5 and at the Valstrax Urgent quest in Village only using the Bow, Pierce is amazing against Nakarkos) which gives me Focus and Stamina Recovery up to help with my stamina. Fire is extremely dangerous but otherwise being a gunner the defense can be 0 and it'd be no big difference. Dodge or get one shotted. Though my cats have a habit of throwing themselves into my arrows. Bomber cats just have a death wish it seems. Assist and a Medicat are best I think. Trapping a monster to help keep it still for extra damage and healing to (hopefully) keep your health up somewhat. Also valor style doesn't protect you from attacks behind you? That sucks but it's just a standing version of adept for bow.
love aerial style bow good way for paint arrows amd if you time the vault just right and in the right direction can be used as a dodge and if you are not using coats shoot to increase the distance from the monster
Something I would add if people play is that don’t worry too much about critical distance it’s not hard to get just don’t be too far away and don’t be too close you don’t need the specifics just play the weapon then you will figure it out yourself.
I have been binging more and more of MHGU (solo sadly) and wanted to give my main weapon from MHWorldborne a go again. Seeing the adept dodge style feels much better than the counter dodge from MH Rise since you can get out of a rough spot and reposition much better than sliding a little to the left/right/forward/backwards while absorbing the attack.
I remember I was a sword and shield main and also a charge blade one too and sometimes would have a difficult time with some certain monsters so I wanted some range in my arsenal. I tried the bow out and was pretty trash at it lol and it felt so weird and hard to control and use. But after a couple hours I just started to use the bow more and more! The bow is now my go to now for fights sometimes lol
Great video covering the use of bows in MHXX pretty well... However I disagree with your view on Heavy-arrows, it is by no mean a 'close-distance' type of arrow, you can use it at absolutely any distance when you get how to use it. It has about the same maximum distance as rapid bow and the arrows are always going to be considered as critical distance from the moment they enter in their falling phase... Which is why it is used against Lao-shan lung from the edge of the high part, since it will manage to hit it, and always at critical distance. While you couldn't do that with rapid arrows. You could do it with pierce arrows too but it wouldn't really be more efficient.
I could barely pay attention when you talked about Alchemy and Valor style. I was too busy freaking out over how beautiful Sagaru looks in HD. Doesn't help that I just beat him in 4U yesterday.
Someone (me) can prove wrong for alchemy bow being "lackluster". First of all bows in general make the most ideal support weapon since 6 of 11 coats assist allies as well as you (paint, poison, paralysis, sleep, exhaust, blast). Then using arcs is still capable of hitting hard-to-reach spots & can stun, few other weapons can naturally so with practice you get a ranged support that can inflict status, stun, empower teammates with SP, & if you get a team to communicate, even craft the team's items. Support is largely ignored in meta, but it's safe to say a trained alchemy bow is probably the most meta supp avaliable
My weapons of choice are SnS, ChargeBlade, SwitchAxe and Hammer. I've never used a long ranged weapon, my brother told me that I'm gonna have trouble with the always flying wyverns (Fatalis?) so I'm now here tryna learn the bow since it looks cool.
Hey Gaijin, Love the vids. Are there plans for a MHW bow tutorial comming up? It seems to work a lot different from other bows in the previous games. Keep up the good work!
Questions for you guys, I am coming from mh4u and the button layout for mhgu on the switch is something I need to get used too. However, I am having a hard time on performing a back hop and drawing my bow while my character is moving (button layout is X to go to aim mode and R is to draw/shoot). If I have my character in idle and I press B, it does a forward roll instead. And when I’m moving and I pressed R, my character doesn’t draw his bow but instead performs a run. But I changed my controls to where pressing the left stick performs a run.... I am not sure why I cannot perform these two actions. Any thoughts? Thanks!
Anyone here in 2024?

Something I would add if people play is that don’t worry too much about critical distance it’s not hard to get just don’t be too far away and don’t be too close you don’t need the specifics just play the weapon then you will figure it out yourself.
The BGM is *THE* ultimate bestest best.
I can't wait to see the other changes.
omg I LOVE THIS throwback to MHG
I've been maining bow since MH4. Can't wait to test out alchemy style.
I have a question. Does the natural partbreaker on heavy shots stack with partbreaker itself?
Great tutorial thanks, that help me a lot.
I switched to Valor bow months ago and oh my word... cannot her go back. All I play now is Valor Bow and Valor Switch Axe. They're just so enjoyable.
Heavy did got a buff in GU and now heavy bows are much more accessible than before, so many videos of Akantor stunlock in XX my god.
Actually, Lao is faster with a Pierce Bow. You can be at the right crit distance without problems because he never attacks
m
Gaijin at it with a tutorial again...
Cause there's another MH game to grind on to!
Hey! I like your videos and I like these tutorials, thanks to them I have improved my game, please do one video for dual blades.
I like the way you say coatings. Sounds like Codines. :')
yesss keep it going! bow’s my favorite!
My favorite weapon!
Hey Gaijin, Love the vids.
Are there plans for a MHW bow tutorial comming up?
It seems to work a lot different from other bows in the previous games.
Keep up the good work!
Cyrow MB he’s done w MHW Tutorial content
Is this a updated video of the MHG video but with the new stuff in MHGU? NOICE
In my opinion is the whitegale nargacuga bow the best bow. ❤️
One video per day? Take me to hunting heaven, daddy!
It's coming !
The only range weapon I like
I'm actually gonna need this because the bow is so babified in World, I forgot how to use Bow traditionally!
Questions for you guys,
I am coming from mh4u and the button layout for mhgu on the switch is something I need to get used too.
Thanks!
Thanks for your tutorials!!!
