You don't need to use the light speed dash to change the ship formation. If you go to the locked door on the roof, you can clip through the wall by spindashing against it and, with the right reaction time, you can hit the load zone behind the locked door which will take you right into the control room.

I wasn't aware you NEEDED to collect the Rythm Badges as Tails to progress. I always got it out of fear of missing it, wasn't aware Tikal just doesn't spawn if you never grab it
I could've sworn you didn't need it. My friend didn't get the upgrade and he progressed fine. He was using an emulator.
@@bruvlodski317 He probably been using cheats to give him all of the upgrades. So yeah.
You can continue Tails story by tricking the trigger. Its very complicated but can be done
Me who got stuck not knowing that the badge is here and not knowing how to progress:
When I was a kid I had this one save file that I played up to the point where Tails goes to the past, and I made sure *not* to get the Rhythm Badge. I did this because I wanted permanent access to explore every map, and that's the one area you can't go back to after completing the game.
Some other CZcamsr and I actually tried this challenge a few years ago too, and we got stuck on the monkey part too. The thing about it is you can spin dash up the mountain, but there is a huge invisible wall above the loading zone that makes it almost impossible to get without the light speed attack.
I speculate that may be done to prevent ruining your save file, since if you entered the level without opening the door, it would be closed when you leave, thus preventing progression past Red Mountain.
I had a feeling the Shovel Claw was going to be required, but I thought it was just because emerald shards will spawn underground; I completely forgot Knuckles has to use it to access two whole levels.
I remember a speedrunner explaining that killing the monkey activates the zone load trigger, so you have to kill it if you want to enter red mountain. Though there might be an undiscovered way to kill it without the ancient light.
Red Mountain’s loading zone is actually only usable IF the monkey is destroyed, so even if you could go back there you would be trapped in there, as you cannot go to the level.
There's no way to leave the past until you upgrade. Sounds kinda poetic XD
It's funny how Big in these types of challenges is either always the character that is the hardest character to get done or the easiest

14:17 I'd suggest near Sonic's entrance, if you can clip through on that side, you might be able to glide into Knuckles' loading zone.
13:20 you know you don’t have to leave the stage, right? Just clicking “retry” will reset the emeralds’ locations, while also keeping the progress on the emeralds you have obtained lol
Ironic that the one character whose story can be beaten without upgrades is also the one character you can't unlock without at least one upgrade.
- Tails is unlocked after Sonic's Emerald Coast
- Knuckles is unlocked after his fight with Sonic and Tails
- Amy is unlocked by Sonic after Sky Chase 1, Tails after the Gamma fight, or Gamma after watching Beta's disassembly
- Gamma is unlocked by Sonic and Tails after fighting him, Amy after Twinkle Park, Knuckles after Lost World, or Big after Emerald Coast
- Big is unlocked after beating Chaos 6 as Sonic, or talking to Tikal as Tails
You can just go up and talk to him as Sonic and it works.
That's why he's listed before Gamma in the character select screen.

i know for a fact that it isn’t possible because i’ve tried before, and the loading zone for red mountain doesn’t trigger if you don’t kill the monkey. not even running up the cliffside to skip the door works

I literally never had an emerald spawn in the ground for my entire Knuckles play through. Lucky, I guess, although I imagine you could’ve used that better than I could’ve
I'd watched a Ringless challenge for this game and it turns out that you CAN get to the bridge to change the shape of the Egg Carrier. You have to go through the pool room and use the entrance there. Normally, you'd have to move the chair first and it would allow a passage back to the pool, but if you go in from there instead, you can access the bridge and the chair is already pushed forward so you can enter.
I remember doing this back when I was kid. And I was able to get up to lost world. I can’t believe the second part is what I needed lol, I though that’s where I needed the light speed shoes.
I don’t remember how I got rid of the money, but I remember it was a pain. As for the ship formation is possible after a few tries with the spin dash.
you can still go in the swears and spindash jump to the top to skip it but youll still need to come back later to use achent light for red mountian
It’s actually called The Ancient Light which allows Sonic to destroy enemies by spindashing enough fast to destroy them.
I casually speedrun sonic's story, and there's an easy way to get the casinopolis button I always use. Free cam, use that same stair slope you used to get on the train tube and just spindash jump directly to the button, you'll have more than enough oomph to reach it
Gonna hit you with a like and hope to see SA2 soon. Watch challenge videos online for SA2, to help you understand the available skips. If you get stuck, you'll find good advice around. Might take more research though, and the game has some nasty skips, but do your best or borrow footage to prove the point if need be. Looking forward to it.
fun fact, I actually never got the yellow glove upgrade for Knux and like..half of the upgrades for Big. and then my friend said "hey, did you know there's more upgrades?" and I was, like: _what?_
the year is 2007, we didn't even have internet :D had the same happening with team blast in Sonic heroes. I only learnt about it in the Metal Sonic fight....it was there, but I never used it!

None of the characters require upgrades to complete each story, since you can easly pull off tricks to activate triggers for storyline and stages. So basicly is possible
What’s interesting is that you can use the light speed attack without the Light Speed Shoes in Sonic Adventure 2.

i never knew it was meant for the ribbon badge i swear.
I saw video of someone doing Sonic's Story with rings and they able to avoid using the Light Speed Dash in Sky Deck or Egg Carrier (honestly idk which levels are which as I havent played the game)(during the chapter on the Captian's Room) (Link in the replies)

From having tried on my own for fun before, I'm pretty sure there's only 4 upgrades that are needed to beat SA2, though personally speaking I've only been able to do it with 5 due to one being really difficult to skip without knowing how to do a specific speedrunning trick to skip the level its in. Not unless there's another way to skip Crazy Gadget that I'm unaware of.
I actually was working on an SA2 video but i scrapped it but what I did find is you can actually beat the hero story without collecting any of sonic's upgrades you can do the crazy gadget skip without upgrades
@@Kakarotta17 Yeah, I was trying that for fun one day as a fun way to replay SA2, and I found that you can skip all but the two Booster upgrades and the Digging upgrades. The Boosters, well, so much of the later mech levels are based around you having it (Cosmic Wall immediately comes to mind), and for Pumpkin Hill and Egg Quarters, the game will always have one piece require them until you pick it up. So you could at least pick it up, reset the level and not use, but it's not possible to skip it.
From there, the other upgrades are actually skippable. Both Bazookas can be skipped since you can clip out of Eternal Engine and skip it, and you can get around Weapon's Bed and Eggman's later levels without it. Similarly, the Hammer Gloves can be skipped since you can clip out of the first room in Death Chamber, and for Mad Space, you can avoid the Iron Boots through some simple gliding to another planet.
Personally, I tried to see how many Emblems I could get throughout all the stages with the minimal amount of upgrades and though I'd need to go check how many I ended up with, I know a good majority of them are obtainable.
I just wish I could do Crazy Gadget Skip so I could find a way to bypass the Flame Ring and that one difficult jump to pass the one light speed dash segment.
@@nuehoujuu7503from videos i’ve seen, when you first play pumpkin hill you can actually get every emerald shard above ground but upon death or reset at least 1 will be underground. At least that’s what i remember i might be wrong
@@raikaru0 One is guaranteed to be buried up until you get the Shovel Claws from what I've seen and played. Same goes for Egg Quarters.
