What is summer like in Nunavut (Arctic)? Highest grocery prices are in Nunavut

- For my third Vlog I explore what summer is like here in Kugaaruk, Nunavut. Does the snow ever melt?
I will also explore the outrageous price of food! I will highlight the food insecurities that these prices have caused in the Arctic.
Thank you for making these, I still know little but I always keep Nunavut in my mind often, so day-to-day experiences like this really help. I hope plenty of people have access to a computer, good internet, and some sweet local multiplayer gaming get-togethers haha.
Haha thank you for reaching out!! Glad your keeping up here in mind😁. I wouldn't say plenty of people but definitely a decent amount of people have access, granted the only cellphone tower that provides data is working an isn't down at that moment haha
There’s internet but the ping here is horrible up to 600/900 ping. But the download and up load are 50/20 until the we used all our data then we’re throttled. And it goes down to 0.50 mbps.
But Starlink a satellite internet by space x is finally available here and hopefully we’ll have lower ping and 1TB soft cap isn’t that bad
It's very expensive! I didn't know that... Of course I knew that food would be more expensive than Toronto or Quebec, but I think it's too much!
Greetings from Argentina!
Hello Virginia! I agree with you, I alsays knew that it would be more expensive but I did not know it would be as expensive as it is... the price makes it very hard for a decent amount of the population to be able to afford groceries.
Woow, Argentina🇦🇷!! Thank you for the support🙂
@@mylesnmilestv Dang, well you gotta let us know if you find out any tricks of the trade they do over there for self-sufficient food survival, as I can only imagine that maybe it's the only real way to make it. It's hard learning about Nunavut sometimes, and I'm not even sure if I want to hear it from a government perspective, but from the indigenous people.
I bet there's a particular set of supplies that would assist everyone greatly, rather than just the usual grocery options. Or maybe it's the right tools, equipment, and so on to get the job done better for whatever already works.
i got a job offer for CAD4000 i think i will turn it down now. just found out house rent goes for 2600
Love that you show the difference in price..so dutty that things are overly priced, compared to what the same products are priced for in Ontario.
If you live in Nunavut, do what the locals do: catch your own food. You probably aren't allowed to hunt there, but you can definitely catch Arctic char to eat, plus it's an activity to keep busy. You can make sushi and sashimi out of char, too.
Your hair looks perfectly fine king! 🔥
.
It is so neat seeing what it’s like!

Thanks for your reply
I'm in Gjoa Haven😂 living in Nunavut is very expensive, hope you enjoy your stay!
Heyy!!! Gjoa Haven is basically our sister town😊 and thank you soo much!!
Ha ha ha mind - blowing
Hey! Great vid! I was wondering how you were doing. I was looking at the Toronto food prices like wow. I'm in Maryland USA and stuff is ridiculously expensive. I'm rationing food, it's that bad. I'm selling my car because of these gas prices. How do people get any sleep with the sun up there?
Heyy!!! Thanks for always commenting I really appreciate it🙂. And woow!! I didnt know you were from Maryland! Ive visited before and went to the Bowie state homecoming back in 2019. Woow, im sorry to hear that you are selling your car because of all the inflation. I have been hearing that prices in the south are indeed climbing and gas as well! With the 24 hour daylight you need blackout blinds/ cutains!. If you do not have them, it becomes very hard to sleep🤣. But then in the winter, it becomes 24hour darkness. So the complete opposite
@@mylesnmilestv Hey! Glad to keep up with your adventures in Nunavut. Keep the vids coming. I live about 30 minutes from Baltimore. I have family in Ajax, so our paths may have crossed somewhere. After seeing prices up there in Nunavut I won't be bellyachin' about prices here. I'll miss my car, but it could be worse. God bless you. I look forward to seeing more about your time in Nunavut.
Love these videos!! How are you liking it up there??
Thank you soo much! And it's good!! I've grown a lot as a person for sure!!
❄️🇨🇦❤️
This is why its much more important to allow locals to hunt and fish as flying imported food costs too much. Its the same in tropical islands but they at least have the ability to grow local fruits and vegetables. Here, it's a lot harder. Historically this is why the locals have a higher fish/meat diet.
That is 100% true. An my locals do infact hunt for their meals because of these high prices. It would be nice if the climate was allowing of the cultivation of fruits and veggies
@@mylesnmilestvJust a Silly Question; Are You an American OR Canadian?? Most Canadian KNOW that North of the Artic Circle inthe Summer is 24 Hrs of daylight, ESPECIALLY in the months of July/August. The Temperature May ONLY be above 32 F, but it's not in the negative temperatures.
Upload more ! Cheers from 🇲🇽
This week I have one coming!! Thank you soo much haha
Incredible, being a natural night owl idk how I would survive in an environment where the sun is still out at 3AM, my brain already has difficulty shutting down, I think I’d become a insomniac.
Also this answers my question from your last video. Lol😅 these food prices are wild, $94 in Nevada, US would get you a few CASES of top ramen, a large bag of Tyson nuggies, a cart full of fresh veggies, drinks and some fresh meat. I know everything’s imported but dayum.
Is the average hourly pay higher there to match the prices?
Some decent blinds and curtains will keep your room dark while you're sleeping. And in return I can assure you there's not much that beats going out fishing at 3AM with the sun up, or just casually walking home from the pub!
Do the early sunrises/sunsets mess up your sleeping pattern?
They can! But that's why I have blackout blinds 😁 if you don't, then you won't be able to ever sleep. And if your the time to get seasonally depressed, then buying a mood light can definitely help during the dark months
I watched every single video about Nunavut and got some questions. I would like to visit. I really appreciate if you answer my questions. Thank you
I would love to answer any wuestions you have!
Ask away!
Can you please please do more videos. You have already convinced me to visit In the summer
Haha! I am glad that my videos have made you want to visit😄. I'm uploading by the end of the week, already edited! Trying to show different elements of life here in the new video dropping!
@@mylesnmilestv perfect! I’ll be waiting!!
that is nuts. is it balanced out with higher pay there?
I think so. The pay is far higher.
Hello!! And haha it sure is!
Food may be crazy expensive but i would love to visit, only during summer tho, as someone from Florida anything below 30° F would kill me 😂😂😂
Haha you should definitely try an visit one day. An I agree with you, only come in the summer time though😅 especially if your used to Flordia's weather haha
Nice
If the solar noon wasn’t so early, it would be 4:15 or 5:15 at the start of the video

I like your vlogs mate, I’m moving to Canada this summer from the UK. What city do you recommend? I’m thinking Toronto
Hey buddy! Thank you very much for the support! An nice!! Welcome to Canada in advance! I would always recommend Toronto! Or the surrounding cities that boarder it! Toronto is my hometown so I'm bias haha. However Toronto is basically a cleaner London England. There are many similarities between the 2 cities. So if you like the vibe of London England, you will like the vibe of Toronto. Not to mention we are the entertainment and cultural hub of Canada!
I wish you all the best on your move! And please subscribe 😁
Canada is expensive man. I live in Quebec and it’s more expensive than in The United States
It definitely can be! Especially up here in the Arctic !!
Seems like theres no nightlife tho
Im in kugaaruk
Heyy Taniki!!
We ask the tour guide
The tour guide are my friends
why dont people grow that shit out there and sell it for less Lol?
Its because plants are unable to grow up here, we are above the treeline with year round permafrost, you can only dig about 1- 2 feet below the surface and the extreme cold would kill all the crops
could not care less about your wool hair
Thanks for your support!
You should apply to Amazing Race Canada, you would easily get accepted
