  • In this video, we do a GDI intake cleaning on our 2020 KIA Soul EX. This is a very important maintenance step for any gas direct injected engine. This intake cleaning should be done about every 15,000 to 20,000 miles. This will clean the throttle body, intake, valves, combustion chamber, exhaust valves. These cleaners are a total upper engine cleaning if done right. For the engine to stay in clean top running health this cleaning can not be forgotten. Many car brands mostly import cars have been using GDI engines and this is not something most USA car brands do. It will save you from engine damage and wear by doing this cleaning the right way. I am using the CRC brand of cleaner because I have used their products in the past and I like their quality.
    Tools needed:
1 can of GDI intake cleaner
    Needle nose plyers

I'm in search of tutorials for both so I don't mess anything up. I'm watching dozens of vids to see if anyone mentions what the last video didn't. Cross the T's and dot the I's. Thanks for the vid!

2016 Kia soul 35,000 miles on it. I just finished the 10 min drive I couldn’t believe the amount of smoke that was coming from my exhaust I really thought for a few minutes that I ruined everything after driving it hard w a/c running the smoke was gone this car is driving like it brand new again. It’s unbelievable how the dealership maintenance wouldn’t include something so important let alone not even never once mentioned this to me during the years I had a warranty for maintenance. Tomorrow I change the spark plugs, the pcv valve and the oil. Anyone who drives a Kia soul and never spray the inside of the engine my advice to you is run to the auto parts store and buy a can of this spray.

I have a 2016 Kia Optima ex just about to hit 70k miles, and I started experiencing oil consumption the car feels weak in power and acceleration, did the required maintenance changed oil, spark plugs and PCV valve. But Oil consumption continued. Took it to the Kia dealership and they recommended that I do a ( GDI combustion cleaning service for $500 that will take two days ) I feel like I’m just literally missing this step to hopefully solving my oil consumption problem. I will be doing this over the weekend and coming back to this video to update thank you 🙏💪🤝

I've used the CRC valve cleaner at 20,000 miles gdi 2017 Kia forte 5 (car has 43,000 miles now another cleaning to do ) following the process. The maintaining RPM, smoke from the tail pipe, soak and highway drive. Two people helped with the initial process. I noticed that what it needed (car ran the same sluggish) was a proper cleaning. I removed the intake manifold. The valves were pretty bad with carbon build up (you tube tutorial) turn the Crankshaft made sure the value was closed (you tube tutorial). Then I used CRC cleaner sprayed in/on the (closed) valves, 20 min soak, 18volt drill with zip ties(you tube tutorial) in the end of the drill. Kind of messy but the soak and zip ties 20 mins of whipping, agitation worked. I covered the engine bay with plastic and exposed the work area only. I didn't use a pic/ screw driver since I didn't want to scratch/mark up the port/valve area. I used my shop vacuum to suck up the carbon liquid/residue in the closed port/valves. Then I followed up with a walnut blast(you tube tutorial on making a gravity fed plastic soda bottle). Then some compressed air blew out the walnut fragments in the(closed) port/valve. Took about 1/2 a day to do CRC soak with drill/zip ties and walnut blast. Then reassembled the intake manifold with new port gaskets, nuts, bolt's, torque specs (you tube tutorial). Ran like a champ. I'll have to say I watched a dozen CZcams videos from different people, places, experience and cars so, I felt confident. Glad I got past the self sabotage we all fall into. I understand the principle behind the GDI (you tube tutorial). Maintenance is a must. Thank you for the video guy's.

  • @JoseMartinez23244

I would do it more frequently before every oil change I haven’t had any issues doing it like this 👍🏻💯 and I do change my car oil every 4000

I'm kinda tempted to perform the procedure on my european ioniq HEV 2020 but i'm kinda worried that all that stuff that get dissolved and blasted away may clog the particulate filter that my 1.6Kappa is equipped with.

I appreciate this video. I have a 2018 Soul +, and I'm teaching myself to do some maintenance on it. I have a dumb question, but you replaced the hose, etc. before driving the car, right?

Hi, I think this might be my problem. My kia has 87000 miles on it. I dont think its ever been done. (bought at 40k miles). My engine light came on and is running code P0507. I had the alternator replaced a few prior to this happening and since then the map sensor, air filter and a throttle body relearn has been done. Dou you think I should just get it done at firestone or something first and then do it myself. It a 2018 kia soul 1.6L

Are you sure this method applies to throttle body intake cleaning? (Driving at highway speeds afterwards) There's also a seperate "Valve intake cleaner" ppl use in the brake booster or vaccuum line where I've seen this method applied

When we bought our Kia Rio in 2018 I had no idea of the maintenance of a GDI engine it's definitely a little more involved you can't just dump stuff in the tank and you're good to go.
