  • How to thoroughly remove all the carbon inside of a plastic or aluminum intake manifold using Purple Power and a dryer lint brush. In the video, I'm using an Intake manifold commonly found on 4.7L 2008-2014 Chrysler, Jeep, Dodge, and Mitsubishi. Make sure to remove all sensors from the manifold before cleaning.

    This is exactly what I searched for, Thanks! Purple power sure isn't what it used to be. I was using this back in the mid to late 80's and you didn't dare use it without gloves on, as it would start drying your skin out to the point of the skin cracking. I know that they took it off of the consumer market for a while and then brought it back out as a diluted version.

    Another great and effective product for cleaning oily and carboned-up engine parts is professional HVAC outdoor coil cleaner.Some name brands are "Nu-Brite" and "Foam-N-Clean",with several store brand type knockoffs as well.These are concentrated alkaline products that react with the aluminum fins on the outdoor coils by foaming up and lifting off any dirt or corrosion,but they also work very well for soaking freshly disassembled nasty parts from a junk motor,for example,or any other metal part.I would not use it on that plastic intake,and it is very caustic and corrosive,so rubber gloves and caution are mandatory,as is heavy rinsing with the garden hose,but the stuff works great!Just FYI.Also, your vids were very informative during a recent rebuild of the 4.7 in my 2000 Grand Cherokee.Keep'em coming!

    Purple Power is corrosive.
    (Labeled on the back of bottle)
    You need to take off anything metal on the manifold. Such as that 1 bolt still in there. Did this video a year ago, that bolt is most likely completely rusted now and the others look good as new.

    • @martinbuilt
      @martinbuilt  Před 3 lety +4

      I've been using purple power for 15 years to clean engine parts as long as you don't let it soak In purple power for an extended period of time especially with aluminum it's perfectly safe I've never had any parts rust due to purple power. And as explained in the video to thoroughly rinse the product after cleaning it with purple power. Otherwise you will end up with a chalky residue especially on aluminum parts..

It was smoking bad It was letting out a cloud of white smoke I'm not sure if it's water getting in the cylinders or what? Compression felt good though just the smoke man, was eating oil. Yup PCV valves are goof idea. Don’t want harmful vapors in the atmosphere. But if you want get a car to run well, hose it all out all over the ground. Need PCV, just don’t need to run it into intake

    Hmm very similar to cleaning a dirty bong. A Helpful tip: Use salt or a light abrasive to help scrape off resin/carbon .

    Purple power is great for caked on geese too I have seen it used in restaurants.

      yeah, this stuff works great. Also, try Totally Awesome, it is a little milder cleaner and is safe on aluminum.

      @@martinbuilt Yes also can confirm Totally Awesome lives up to its name. Guess if you can clean a geese trap you already know how to clean an engine haha.

    Nice video Martin. I have been thinking on doing this for a while. Have you run the manifold after the cleaning? Any issues if you have.
    Thanks.

      This manifold will be going on the HO engine that I'm rebuilding. I have used this same method to clean the intake that I'm currently running on my 04 Jeep Grand Cherokee.

    Show us how you installed a water hose to your water heater. I can't find a CZcams video on that

    Well hopefully others will read my comment first before making the same mistakes as me:
    1. Do follow safety instructions. Purple Power will tear up your hands.
    2. Do not soak parts long term in the stuff. I figured if it soaked white stuff would not appear. It will actually form under the surface of purple power.
    3. Yea, don't use on aluminum.
    4. Even after soaking it, I still have deposits inside my intake plenum.

    I notice on your cutaway motor there you have what looks like Spectre filters over the crankcase breathers...is it possible to do that and just remove all of that plumbing in the back of the motor? Anytime I can remove annoying stuff like that plastic tubing, I do!!!!

      you can on that on that side of the engine but you need to flow what I have done in this video czcams.com/video/omr0lfU8LFc/video.html

    Hey @Martinbuilt thanks for this cool video. Sorry been busy so here in few days I’ll try to catch up on vids. I was wondering, my intake is OEM, however after tracing heads I notice that there is a very small overlap. What is your thoughts on “porting” the intake to match? Is this unheard of?

    • @martinbuilt
      @martinbuilt  Před 2 lety +1

      Port matching, I have done this before on the 4.0 Jeep engines.

      The smoother the transition, the better it is for flow, so more air will enter the engine giving more power.
