- Christy, Ben, and Matt talk about some MAJOR Star Trek trouble.
Let us know if you think the two Chrises should suck it up and star, or if they're right to run.
#TYTNetwork #TheYoungTurks #WhatTheFlick?! - Zábava
Why would you even start filming not knowing the name of the most recent movie?
because this shows the real influence of these movies, i did not remember the title either, so it is satisfying to see that even movie critics dont remember, they are so mediocre and forgettable
Who needs to know wtf that shitty ass movie was named
It's Star Trek Beyond.
How do these guys have jobs when they don't even know the names of the movies they are referencing....
I know right!
Ben Mankiewicz (the guy with the glasses) works on Turner Classic Movies so he only really knows old movies.
"folks, we lost Chris"
"which one?"
".... both of them"
"inconceivable!"
10 seconds of research before you started would have told you the name of the third movie
Everything is forgettable for these people, Jesus.
She said it had something to do with aliens. Lmao.
Star Trek IV came out in 1986
I guess you could call it a CHRISIS
There doesn't need to be a forth one right? Skip a few generations and give us a young John Luc Picard trilody instead!
Star Trek needs to go into deep hybernation for ten, twenty years before anything genuinely novel or exciting could emerge. As it stands it's purely an exercise from seperating the movie-goer from his money.
What I find super puzzling with both star franchises is that the fans keep telling the producers exactly what they want and they keep making something completely unwanted. Like imagine a trailer close up of old Captain Riker strokes his greying beard, 'its good to be home' pan over to the view screen and boom HD CGI DS9 as the USS Titan goes into dock. Like fans would explode.
They could drop Hemsworth (given he only had a cameo sized role in 09 Trek) and recast him with a cheaper actor which would then give Paramount more money to fulfill the deal Pine signed in 2016.
You could definitely get a great character actor to play that role, too.
Good idea, just drop the time travel plot
Star Trek: Something Something
Star trek TV is owned by Cbs, while the film rights are owned by paramount, which is owned by viacom. Getting Picard into a new TV series with Cbs money is irrelevant for the movvies, as they are created by different companies.
Hemsworth is Pine's daddy
I don’t think Star Trek movies work without a significant audience watching a current series. The exclusivity of Discovery will hurt future movies.
Paramount should take the blame for the disappointment of Beyond. The marketing was awful and they didn’t promoted during the SuperBowl which was a big no no!
Stephen Fernandez Marketing wasn't the only problem Beyond had; it was a bad movie. Wouldn't get another watch out of me.
ChipnDale96 beyond Is Great Why Everyone Hating?
ASENDED BOI It was boring, and lacked action. There's a reason it did poorly in the BO compared to the last two.
ChipnDale96 everyone Has Own Opinion Maybe You Say Boring But Im Not,
ASENDED BOI good for you. Doesn't discount what everybody else was thinking.
Chris Pines hairline just keeps creeping further and further back.
You three are laughable. How can you talk about movies if you don't even know the titles or the story lines?
Yeah. Get a little research done before you roll camera
If they are going to drop these two, then might as well drop the entire alt universe and start over.
paramount can't drop the alt universe...it was part of the copy right deal...they can't do star trek movies within prime universe
For being movie buffs they forget a lot of shit
Star Trek is not going anywhere. The stars can come and go. Chris Pine has plenty going on elsewhere for him anyway.
Neither of them were involved in the last one, except Abrams as a producer.
No Chris Pine on board for ST 4 ? They better just stop and reboot the franchise in 2 years .
That’s what I would do .
How does this even work?
I mean, I ADORE Hemsworth but he's not a pillar cast member of this franchise. Losing Anton was WAY more devastating to the future of the franchise than him. Without Pine I don't know how you even move forward.
All I know is that studios are being entirely too tyrannical lately.
I never cared for Anton, his Russian accent was unconvincing, and his meek neurotic unmanliness grated on my nerves. Getted pinned by a runaway SUV was the best great career move he could have made. Getting his arm lopped half-off in Green Room presaged his perfectly timely end. Yeah yeah edgy af, I know. This is just how I express that I emphatically was not an admirer of his work or his personality.
Wait... Yelchin's accent was unconvincing? You know he's ACTUALLY Russian from Russia lived in Russia that kind of deal, right? Thanks for your 2 bit 2 bits.
Chris Wright another relapse chris? That reply was painful to read...... get help!!!
Actors who think there bigger then the movie that's being made like Star Trek are you kidding me. And CBS still doesn't get it, they killed off and cut the throats of all fan made Star Trek films that have kept Star Trek dreams alive for years and can't figure out why there movies aren't doing well.
Robert Jakicic Chris Hemsworth is bigger than Star Trek though. And without Pine, you’d essentially have to do a reboot or spinoff without Kirk.
I have to agree. If Chris Pine wants out of the deal, he should have talked to the producers about it before production began on STB, not wait until now, when ST4 is about to begin production. Unless Chris Pine have a contract to do one more Star Trek movie. In that case, he's shit out of luck.
Good. Abrams' bastardization of Star Trek has completely destroyed Gene Roddenberry's vision of the future. Exploration, human relationships, current events. CBS and Abrams utterly ruined the Star Trek franchise by turning it into generic action film bullshit. But, I still got all my TOS, TNG, DS9 & VOY on DVD, so I'm all good.
Left Is Best Agreed but don’t forget ENT
Roddenberry's vision was to make as much money as possible. Anyone else remember the IDIC medal debacle back during TOS?
Darryl Bernard - Considering how little Gene made from Star Trek compared to Paramount and now CBS, I can't blame him. But thanks for your irrelevant opinion.
I can't believe she forgot the title of the most recent Star Trek movie. "Star Trek Beyond." Apparently, she didn't watch the movie, or any of the Star Trek re-boot movies.
Wow I tuned in and got some know-nothings espousing nothing on a subject they know nothing about. Hope my click earned you a cent!
I agree. If you're going to talk about a movie, or a movie series, you need to know something about the story, and the character(s) in the movies. Otherwise WTF are you doing talking about a movie? That doesn't make any sense.
Star Trek is a strong franchise if you don't fuck it up.
A clever man knows when to jump ship, and these Chris' are smart men.
Star Trek is dying and Star Wars is not too far behind, sad days for Sci-Fi fans
Star Wars isn't dying. Episode 10 is going to be a huge success. The Solo spinoff movies will flop but the main Star Wars movies will make Bank.
have you forgotten, or never heard about the two Dune movies being made right now by none other than Denis Villeneuve? Oh and we just had 2049 last year. And Arrival before that. Just forget about the old money cows, Star Trek and Star Wars, they've been milked dry.
i am so sad that both chris are not playing kirk
Christy, Ben, and Matt finally!
Paramount made a deal with both chrises now they are going back on it. Exactly who do they think they are? There must be more to it
“It had something to do with aliens?” Really Christy? Lol Come on!
are you familar with the concept of a facetious remark
Chris Wright Yes, are you familiar with sarcasm and gentle teasing? I know that sarcasm is difficult to pick up online, so...
Yep it was talked "Star Trek Into the cash grab." OOPS... I meant "Never Beyond ticket Sales"
Any statement that begins with ALLEGEDLY, APPARENTLY, ECT, it's not really a solid statement.
Never cared for Pine as Kirk, but then again who would I like to play the role? Besides, the kelvin timeline is something I don't believe in, whereas I am pretty sure the Shatner Enterprise does/will exist. Now, Hemsworth...well he died in Cabin in the Woods so...there you have it.
Yeah, there's no way any fan will sit there to watch Zachary Quinto play along with a different Captain Kirk.
100%. Those guys are forever linked by the death of Kirk being the one and only time we see an outburst of emotion from Spock. Much like Nemoy and Shatner. Can't have one without the other now.
I’m a Trekkie and I love Star Trek. I do understand that some weren’t as good but from the original to Star Trek Enterprise, Star Trek Voyager, Star Trek : The Next Generation, Deep Space Nine and all the movies I have thoroughly enjoyed.
RIP Kelvin Universe.
How incompetent are these guys?
Another typical example of the insatiable greed of an actor who got too big too fast.
They had a contract which paramount wanted them to take less because paramount cant make a decent film.
Chris Pratt could be Kirk, but Paramount probably couldn't afford him. That just leaves the final Chris...
Chris Rock!
Maybe a Christy can play Kirk, why can't there be a transitioning female playing Kirk? (I seriously mean this as a joke)
Not so fast buddy! We have a few more options:) Chris Tucker, Christian Slater, Christian Bale, and Chris Evans.
What about a singing captain Chris Isaak?
Just scrap the whole thing. Chekov is gone anyway.
Bubo 25, yup but I have to disagree about Star Wars. Star Wars is doing fine. Just my opinion, so don't @ me.
Bubo 25 Considering how desperate Paramount is, they will never let it go until they are thoroughly humilated by profound box office failure.
MonkeyZorr, was Walter Koenig in the Star Trek reboot series? No? Then he's got nothing to do with this conversation. Your comment is irrelevant. Nice try though.
Bring back Shatner, just do the Marvel CGI thing...
Lyra74 just use no cgi old Shatner as he is now lol
*STAR TREK BEYOND*
Dear mr. Pine Captain Kirk this is Robert Haller I live in Southern New Jersey that's been 18 years in the United States merchant marines we always watched all your movies aboard ship whether you get paid full price 1/2 Price sir during the Cold War they were times when I get paid $35 a day please take half pay put the crew back together and make a next Star Trek and you be the captain of it instead to call Inc bring it back the old cast how about bringing back the old crew you mr. Spock everybody McCoy okay thank you very much Robert h a l l e r live long and prosper and you're one of the best Captain Kirk's we ever had including the captain from Voyager Kathryn Janeway I love you too I've been watching my birthday
*Star Trek 14
Did you ever notice that William Shatner said he might not return for his Star Trek 4, and now, the new Captain Kirk is saying he might not return for his Star Trek 4? Whoa, What comes around goes around!
To state my opinion, I think Chris Pine and Chris Hemsworth did a great job in the movies of Star Trek. Both were magnificent and I hope that Paramount reconsidets it's position. Besides, if movie Corporations want their movies to get out first they need to establish better relations with Actors. Better relations means better movies get.
JJ Abrams did alright with Star Trek. Not with Star Wars but Star Trek yes. I am sorry if this offends people but everyone is entitled to their own opinion. I think it would be a shame not to see the real actors in the next movie. Besides in my movie opinion the next Star Trek movie is gonna be great. And I look forward to it, remember better relations better movies go smoothly. Sure there will be complications but if Star Trek dies, then the dreams they gave to us will die with it.
I have to agree. I watched Star Wars' recent movies, and I don't find them as horrible as I've heard people say they were. But I think Abrams should stick with Star Trek. He's done well with them thus far. :)
Why is she drinking from a jar? #BetitsVodka 😂😂😂👌🏽
I suppose this movie would have been a course correction - nullifying the devastating effect of Nero's interventions (destruction of Kirk's father's ship and of planet Vulcan).
I think it's time to bring in The Next Generation, into the Star Trek rebooted timeline.Which means, even though he's (I think) reprising the role in a new Star Trek TV show, they probably won't bring in Patrick Stewart as Picard. They'll probably bring in somebody like, James McAvoy (Sorry Mr. Stewart) as the captain of the Enterprise D/E.
I don't know but, i bet John Boyega might make a good Goeordi.
There's a current TV series and they won't be doubling upon that.
ThePoreproductions Boyega could not plausibly play an engineer, he's a loud braying donkey, he would have flunked out of the Academy after a month for chasing tail and getting hammered instead of devoting countless hours to the study of warp core design.
No Chris no movie.....just saying
Well that version of Star Trek is over and done with now.
why don't they take Anton Yelchin(Chekov) pay and split between them as he wont be in the next Star Trek
They are not asking for more. ParAmount wants to pay less than they already signed a contract for.
drop the whole thing, re-reboot from scratch, this time remember to put at least half a brain cell into the scripts and remember it's not Star Snores, it's supposed to be intelligent.
Real fans don't accept garbage. These films are insulting to my intelligence, but I still watch them at least once, hoping to find some TNG quality in one of them, but consistently disappointed.
So no more Captain Pine and his gorgeous crew?
really liked ST Beyond
The guy in the far-right claiming that Star Trek can recast the position for Kirk in the same way that James Bond recasts their character, shows his disconnect or complete ignorance of the relationship Star Trek fans have with the world of Star Trek.
.....
Such a profoundly ignorant statement shows that he has no business being on this panel.
I take it you have never seen STD!
Douglas Rowland
Hi, Actually, no I haven't..... I'm sincerely not interested.
.....
But I'm not sure what Star Trek Discovery has to do with the movie franchise.
Easy, both were created by people that have no idea about Star Trek!
Here are two millionaires actors wanted more, I cant understand why they make that kind of money. They are entertainers, we the people that go out and spend hard earned money to watch these shows, we deserve more out of life but we do the best with what we have. Make the best of it Mr. Pine with $6-10 million per movie.
They don't want more. They just want what was promised to them.
Star Trek IV? Is this going to be a remake of the one with the whales? Or are the whales holding out for more money, too?
No they have a deal for a certain amount that because paramount didnt like the profit from 3 they wanted them to take less than was originally agreed. How is the actor at fault for paramounts attempt to cheat the actor.
I get why they would want Chris Pine but, the Chris Hemsworth character was killed in the 2009 Star Trek unless they're planning to reboot the reboot
Stephen Malovski the next film was going to have time travel in it
+Jr Morales So they were attempting to retcon the retcon! The great thing about the classic Star Trek 4 was that they also time travelled but they tried not to change the timeline too much, while with this movie that probably is still their attempt with the unpopularity of the Kelvin timeline
Stephen Malovski No it was just time travel. They never said anything about retconning.
Make it like the Netflix show the Crown recast everyone and make them 20 years older.
If you are going to talk about a movie franchise, gather your facts before you start talking. Down vote!
Wtf happened at 3:50 - 3:51? That one needs to go in the record books!
Pretty remarkable stand of them to take, refusing to be in a movie from 1986
Paramount is trying to stiff the actors in a successful franchise.
If they decide to recast Kirk, the upside is that they could use this opportunity to recast Anton's part as Chekhov. As far as that goes, Paramount could just go cheap and recast the whole crew... Besides, if Tarantino directs it, everyone is going to die by the end of the movie anyway, true fact!
Come on Paramount, Star Trek has loyal fans that will be upset if the crew gets jerked about. Replacing or at least dealing with the Chekhov issue will be hard enough, replacing Kirk also...? Not a good move!
Tbf Beyond sucked on an xman Apocalypse level.
We wouldn't be human
If we didn't
Picard is going to be in the next movie??
Sorry to hear that STAR TREK 4 IS LOSING BOTH
CHRIS PINE AND CHRIS
HEMSWORTH.....I WAS LOOKING FORWARD TO SEE THEM......OH WELL.
WHAT WILL BE WILL BE.
BUT I CANNOT IMAGINE
A STAR TREK MOVIE RATED R....
BEING A STAR TREK FAN FROM THE GET GO.
1960 - PRESENT.
I HAVE ENJOYED THE
G RATING ETC.
AGAIN THESE ARE MY
THOUGHTS......
The Star Trek TV series debuted in 1966, unless you had some way of viewing the unaired first pilot for Star Trek which was completed in 1965, you did not become a fan until 1966 at the earliest.
I know. I didn't care for Chris Hemsworth, but I loved Chris Pine.
Error,ERROR ,error on my
Part u r correct S.T
DID DEBUTED IN "66"
BUT WE ALL MAKE
MISTAKES.
Star Trek: Beyond😐
Paramount has one franchise? I guess Indiana Jones and Mission: Impossible don't count.
If you want the best you have too pay the best if not then you have too reboot the whole thing
I don´t know what some people are talking about. I liked the last 3 entries with this cast. A lot. Effects were amazing on all of them too, and nominated for oscars. I remember Alonso liking even the very last one.
This is exactly what turns me off, talking about the effects rather than the ideas. Star Trek has power when it's presenting an alternate vision of the future where people aren't consumed by materialism, not just as a flashy lights show.
The effects was secondary in my comment. I just pointed out that they were amazing. In general I liked the movies, not just the effects. I knew pretty much nothing about Star Tek before these 3 movies. I suppose it has to do with that. Hardcore older fanboys are always too much in all genres.
Dear Ben Mankiewicz: STICK TO ANNOUNCING OLD MOVIES!
To be honest Star Trek 3 was better than 2. Its a shame that people didn't go an watch it.
David Dante i liked it, Justin Lin did a great job in my opinion
Buxenwolf I am glad you thought so. I like the movie Series so its a real shame that Star Trek 4 may not go ahead.
+David Dante .. Honestly you are high on crack cocaine
Blame the retarded decisions made by Paramount and Viacom executive management. They rode the studio into financial ruin to the tune of a loss of way over 400M by making idiotic decisions like releasing Beyond in the middle of a competitive summer blockbuster month instead of releasing it on Star Trek's 50th Anniversary later in the year.
DagmarSLNY Yeah that's true. It's a business at the end of the day. If they make dumb decisisons they'll keep on digging a financial hole that they are probably trying to avoid.
Pay them what they’re worth.
Its only a matter of time before Marvel absorbs every Chris
The last new Star Trek Beyond was the only new one that was actually any good. I hope they don’t try to go back and make them more like the first two stinkers.
Nah, the last one wasn't emotionally engaging. I didn't really care what happened to the characters in the movie because of this fact. Far preferred the two previous ones to that one. Star Trek Beyond was totally forgettable.
Kerr Avon the first two movies have basically same out come. Kirk learns to become a leader and spock learns to feel emotions. I preferred the third one overall, they didn't have too many over the top action scenes and when they did. It felt like they were relevant to the story, not to show all the pretty explosions and destruction. I found it more emotionally engaging imo. It didn't have a pointless love story in it. And I feel like overall they progressed as characters. Out of all the 3 Star Trek movies the third one felt the most like Star Trek.
CBS owns the TV franchise, so Picard coming back has nothing to do with Paramount.
recast them. whatevs
paramount knows how to mess up a good thing.. i think the crew was gr8!! now to replace spock?, what about nimoy's choice, did paramount back out on zachery/
u am begining to think paramount might try to redo casablanca....,,,,,omg no
A star trek 4 was happening..? I thought that shit got cancelled when no one saw 3
Nick Molnar Star Trek Beyond did almost $350m at box office. Given its budget + marketing it's profit was probably under studio expectations, but the truth is a lot of people saw it.
Steel Patriot fine I’m still the only person i know who saw it💁
It lost money. The studio doesn't get the entire box office and with post production, marketing and licensing royalty costs a Star Trek movie has to roughly make double its production budget to be profitable. The production budget for Beyond was ~$185M and the total Box Office gross was ~$344M.
Oops u forgot Chris Pratt...they all could be cousins...
I only really liked the 1st one
Quentin!!!
what the flick !
Christy Container Watch: (CCW) = Empty jar terrarium.
Good - we don't need any more Star Trek reboot nostalgia porn. Let Tarantino have a shot.
as if Tarantino's work is really much more substantive or much less ephemeral.
If nothing else, it should be interesting and original. I'm ready for something wildly different in the sci-fi genre.
Money Money Money how much do fucking people need
That’s what greed does
Maybe its a Good opportunity to Reboot
Star trek made pine and Hemsworth
@Kenneth Boyer When they did trek in 2009 they were nobodies to Hollywood, i believe it was before Hemsworth got the role of thor and this is the first big break for pine
Star Trek Beyond
William Erazo .....hope
👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
I feel like every guy on this show is afraid of Christy.
and why would they be afraid of her do you think.
