A fine display by the band of the Scots Guards. The first march is "Sarie Marie" to salute the RLI, and the second is "Highland laddie" the regimental quick march of the SGs. The band fields 40 musicians which I guess is the standard now for guards bands. It use to be 48 & 60 not long ago.
Actually Sarie Marais was based on the song Ellie Rhee a popular dance hall tune at the time, adopted by Boers and given Afrikaans lyrics. I weep for Southern Africa. It could have been a paradise for both Black, White, Coloured and Indian. If only Leaders there, in UK and Portugal weren't so shortsighted. Angola and Mozambique were wonderful. Many a time when I was based in SWA I recall drinking parties with Portuguese Police and soldiers! "Oh Cameradie, Vinho Vinho!"
I don't understand why the SG Band played "Sarie Marais", which is an Afrikaner song later adopted as the Official March of HM Royal Marines Commandos, and not the Regimental March of the RLI which was "When the Saints go Marching in". The march off is the regimental quick march of the SG, "Hieland Laddie".
Where can I get a copy of your thesis? It didn't take Mugabe long to wreck that country did it? Am I the only person who recognizes that ALL Rhodesians were FAR better off under Smith's rule?
@@apoiujdba0-9u Sadly many people just see the blacks as part of the fauna instead of acknowledging they were the native inhabitants of their area and being treated as trash in their own land.

@bxnyfordham You can try Lekker wear.com.Sarie Marais is from the Anglo-Boer War.It has been adopted as a march by the UK Royal Marines Commando. The Boer Kommando were teararsing about the veldt shooting up the khakis(brits) every chance they got.I guess you could say the Boers were like todays special forces. They had to be to survive in Southern Africa at that time.Pamwe Chete.,
@McSprackel It wasn`t "yours" to turn over to "them ' in the first place. It`s when you phuk with other people`s cultures that the trouble starts.... but we never seem to learn. Now it`s the American`s turn to bring "freedom" and win the hearts and minds of the grateful Iraqis and Afghanis. Yeah right.
no black man can rule a country. You need brains for thing like that.......Thats my thesis and the conclusion is 'the facts speak for then selves' just look at zimbabwe (rhodesia) and South Africa
It's like some sort of weird comedy skit...the stupid hats, the short leader who stamps his foot and talks to the old man in the green beret. And then, they march away. great stuff lol
Yes, it's long held tradition; However, during the time period when those uniforms were used and the drill movements, it was much less mechicanical and stressful. Rather the movements were far more practical looking and much more natural. However in a time when such phyiscal actions are no longer needed in actual combat, that's when they advanced the movements to be far more exact and harsher to look more mechanized.
Ashvegian. The old man in the green beret was once the finest Fire Force commander in finest army in the world. The men in the stupid hats are modern-day representatives of the country that betrayed him ... ponder that.
What the fuck do you know pal, have you served in any armed force or are you just a keyboard worrior, theses men have fought and seen freinds die some in there arms trying to save them , have some respect . If your wondering yes ive served and seen freinds killed and held a dying freind to the end .
