And then the Randy said, "Let there be an official GMRS Road Channel 19," and there was much rejoicing!
And he saw what he created and said this is good 🤣
yaaaaay
@The 7th Hour, and then wifey showed up on the scene….
The only think I was hoping for was a BEHOLD or at least a LO.
Yet, there was much gnashing of teeth among those who strongly petitioned for channel 20 to become the “official” road channel. So be it.
I have been a Ham Radio Operator for 10 years (had to do this). I 100% agree with Randy, channel 19 is perfect for road, channel 16 for off road. BTW, my cup of "Give A Shit" is empty too...It's a sick world, Randy is a happy guy...lol
Channel 16 is the Marine VHF international calling and distress channel also 😉
This is the leadership GRMS users needed. I've been trying to figure out how to organize RV'ers to use a standard GMRS/FRS channel for road travel for some time. I full-time RV and we're always on the road. I've wanted a way to communicate with other RV'ers or folks in traffic during our travels for a long time. I'm going to implement this as a standard around my circle of fellow RV'ers and ask my RV YT friends to spread the word.
Totally agree, the same boat, an RV snow-bird hear. I started a post on one of those GMRS sites and got totally disgusted. I have learned a lot on those sites reading/learning, but will not post for fear of a sad-ham infection.
If you run a flag with your family name at the site number, like a lot of folks do, you could add the GRMS channel and your call sign to that. It'll be a conversation starter for sure
@@amishjim Having read that I'm seriously thinking about doing the same thing with the 446 MHz PMR radios here in the UK :-)
Oh just what we need. A bunch of RVers talking on channel 19 about crap most of us don’t care about.
The great thing about CB’s channel 19 is that it was for truckers. May be someone needs to officially designate a channel for RVers and leave 19 for truckers.
Once again... straight to the point. Channel 16 because 4x4 and Channel 19 because Truckers. I like it.
So, if I'm traveling on the highway in my 4x4 Jeep, do I still use Ch. 19... or, maybe, 16? ... so confusing!...🤪
@@PhinAI I doubt you will be four wheeling on the highway... not that confusing.... I know you are joking(hopefully).. mee too !
Channel 16 because 4wd usually end up upside down!
@@PhinAI yeah, what channel do you use if you're driving a car that identifies as a truck? This is marginalization!
If I’m driving down a dirt road in my AWD, do I use 15 since it’s not really 4x4ing, but close?.?
This is perfect! Easy to remember especially if you used CB. So, to get the word out, create a bumper sticker saying “I monitor the official GMRS travel channel 19” this way the guy behind you knows how to contact you if he is unaware of the official GMRS travel channel. Let me know when you have it on your merch page and I am in for two.
So am I... ch19 all the way.
I have already Shared this with 20 people I know that are brand new to GMRS like myself.
I would purchase a bumper sticker.
I'm a trucker, and I have been wondering since the year 2000 when they were going to designate a GMRS road channel....I never thought it would take 22 years.
2000 fees like yesterday 😂
Who ever came up with channel 19 for truckers and channel 9 for emergency?
@@sartainja- Snowman ☃️ circa 1977
@sartainja channel 9 was the official channel and the government made 9 the emergency so then people decided to go 10 channels up from what the old people tell me
If they make a movie about GMRS, you can drive the Trans Am Randy.
I'm a truck driver and I wish more truckers would use GMRS. It's a fantastic radio platform
I'm getting one when I get back out there.
How much can you hear on there
Why is it better?
@@TeSoad90 FM
@@Gruuvin1 CB can use FM too now.
Thanks Randy for making Channel 19 the road channel for gmrs. If everybody will put this across social media maybe we can have a standard channel for road, gmrs #19 👍
DO THAT.
19 is perfect. Same as CB so I won't forget
I scan CB19 all the time for travel. I was wondering why GMRS19 as a travel channel didn't catch on before. It's nice that someone is making the movement towards standardization instead of how some viewers just put their "movements" in the comments. Long live the GMRS Queen.
Complainer:"who died and put you in charge?"
Randy pulls back tarp, revealing the last complainer:"this guy."
Complainer:"19 sounds good to me!"
My wife and I love road-trips. We usually take 3 or 4 a year. I have , in the past, put a small cardboard sign in my back window “GMRS CH 22” . I have had a few good contacts. I will now be using CH 19. Thank you so much for designing and declaring CH 19 as the official travel radio channel.
I love the idea of putting the info out there while you're on a road trip. I'll have to go to the mall and see if I can get a decal made.
Update: Just ordered a decal for my back window. Thanks again for such a great idea.
19 is still the CB road channel. 19 GMRS makes sense. Thank you.
All hail Her Royal Majesty, Queen Randy!! May the Lord Zenu shower his GMRS blessings upon thee, and always keep thy Jeep in close proximity of repeater towers as you traverse your kingdom. Long live Queen Randy! Long live Channel 19!! Dilly, dilly... 🤴
We have 22 channels in Canada. No license required. Although there are power restrictions and can’t use radio’s with detachable antennas. I guess because they can easily be replaced with a high gain or adapted for mobile use. Using channel 19 makes sense easier to remember after using CB.
Was looking for this comment
Basically sounds like FRS, here in the U.S.A.
I may be mistaken, but when Paul Revere did his midnight ride, I believe the call was "Channel 1 if by land, Channel 2 if by sea."
And he used a wind up uv1r
And his radio was 746 watts
Make sure to let Paul know it is 19 by road.
19 it is, and as a Canadian I invite you to use it up north. Industry Canada aren't any different than the FCC. It is not likely you'll ever hear from them unless you do something really stupid.
As a relatively new GMRS user from Michigan I feel strongly discriminated against since I am affected by both lines A and C. Therefore I may be restricted from using channels 19, 21, 27 and 29 because America bowed to Canadian pressure. Makes me want to drive 30 miles east, key my mike on one of these channels and see if they can catch me. Another January 6th in the making…
that's what we did on citizen band channels when i was younger. i was a trucker for 20 years so works for me.
Thank you Randy! (it was hard as hell to pause @ 4:23 to read your comment. . . it took me several tries)
try pause after , then push comma key to go back frame by frame, (period is forward frame by frame).
When I'm traveling up I-5 a few times a week back and forth about a 200 mile round trip I tried every channel on GMRS to reach out to someone, anyone and had no luck. Either no one is listening or they are but refuse to answer back. I ordered a way better antenna since the little one I'm using is pretty weak. I'll give that a shot.
I’ll be driving 1200 miles in a few weeks, hopefully I’ll get to talk to some of you on channel 19!
I was listening but I didn’t hear you
My radios are still in the box (new) but I’m going to use ch. 19 and LIKE IT!!
Could listen to his brilliant sarcasm for hours...... LONG LIVE CHANNEL 19!!!!
Love it, Done and done - GMRS Channel 19 is it - just programmed it into my UV5R (hehehe) with the channel name (TRAVEL), used ALL CAPS to make sure everyone can hear it more fars away when traveling. Thanks for using your powers of the force to fix this RF atrocity!
19 for me, and I just got my license!! Love your videos! You have shown me a lot!
got into GMRS last month saw most of your videos.still very new to this new hobby.,just purchased the KG-935 G love it and the KG-1000 G for my truck.Keep up the great videos!!!!
CB is still alive and well, especially for talking skip which I really enjoy. But GMRS is so much more fun and love the ability to use node and repeaters. I always explain it as CB with ham technology.
Randy (and others), do you know if your recommendation to use Ch. 19 as the road channel has been widely adopted? I agree that it would be helpful if the GMRS community could come together on this. Keep of the great work, Randy. Tnx.
My favorite line from the movie that started my radio interest is from Smokey and the Bandit. "Keep them wheels spinnin' and those beavers grinnin' ". All transmitted on ch. 19, the truckers "chatroom" of the day. BTW, also started my love of the Pontiac Trans Am. 😍 They both have a high moisture affect.
I live in MO and get North of "line A" trucking every week in MI or OH. I think if it going to be a full nationwide channel, 20 would work better so that you never need to guess if you're North or South of line A ever.
That would make sense…. Can’t have that here 😉
I run both in my truck . GMRS I use for work and the cb is mostly for fun to talk to truckers I know and listen to interesting people around the area. I did not even realize this had to be a question. Chanel 19 is and will always be the travel channel
On the tablet that Moses dropped and broke it was written that channel 19 was to be used as the GMRS Official Road Channel. And the Roger Beep must be used!!!!!!!
Unity in the community! All hail the Queen 👑 use channel 19!
Once again you have lead the way, a true trail blazer. Thank you for being the man
As a former trucker I was very used to CB CH19. I have wondered about this since I decided to switch my pick-up truck to GMRS for off roading. Going to and from trails I've wanted to be involved in road communication.
Great video. Next step would be to get a GMRS 19 window sticker. Hint hint.
Channel 19. Got it. Thank you!!
I dig it. Will add GMRS 19 to my monitor and use it.
Our family is traveling to Ft. Meyers this spring break, I will use channel 19, Thank you.
The crown is very Fitting Randy 4:26 😂 @NotaRubicon Productions
I'm so addicted to your content. Great video!
Brother I found your channel as Ive purchased a baofeng radio and am viewing from the UK🇬🇧. Im so happy I found your channel your one hell of a character you make me laugh I've subbed and will be following your channel God bless and happy new year brother.
Got it. Off-road = 26, & On-road = 19. Now I need to figure out On-private property and On-public property, the When-SHTF…
This was always my thought. It used to almost be common knowledge that Channel 19 was the "trucker" channel where you could ask about emergencies or road considitions. After switching to GMRS, I never thought twice about continuing to use Channel 19 for travel. If you knew about CB channels before GMRS, I think it'll be second nature.
Thanks for the great channel. No HAM fuddery nonsense, just practical, useful information.
Finally, a decision made! Makes total sense. Thank you.
NotaRubicon, Thank you for the interesting video we travel 10 months out of the year with our RV and are using channel 19. keep them coming. As for the Ham Jason Um... I got nothing!
I just cut the cord to my TV, cancelled Netflix, HBO, Showtime and blocked my friends who are "some people", and am not going through all of your videos. When I am done watching the all at least twice, I am taking a road trip and only listening to Channel 19 on my old GRMS radio. oh yeah, I need to buy some of your shirts with all the money I saved! :) Thanks a million!
Channel 19 it is! It’s about time someone with the gonads set the long-awaited standard. Plus, it’s a high-powered channel and, as you said, it’s easy to remember (even for us freq using hams). Oh, and did I mention, my GMRS repeater is on channel 18. 😉 Missed that bullet. Thanks again Randy, love your videos. And special thanks to the work you do on the recovery of the Salton Sea. “Everyone” should watch those videos as well.
Being a Newbie to GMRS, you have been instrumental in my GMRS education. I have learned volumes from you. Some people are just too stupid to
I'm getting a GMRS and will be using 19 when I'm traveling. Settled.
The first time I saw one of your vids, I said...what a character...then it became entertaining. Now it is a combination of all of the above plus the benefit of the knowledge base. Great job.
Randy, you need to make up a window sticker for “GMRS Road Channel 19”
Thank you for your knowledge you pass along.
Gmrs is practical and functional. Loved my Motorola black gear.
Thank you for making great videos. I’m just starting and you help make it easy!
I've been a trucker for almost 25 years and I haven't talked to a single trucker using gmrs. I would love to see truckers all start using gmrs though.
GMRS ch 19 hereby ratified as official travel channel for MA and NH area
Hooray! Someone has finally stepped up to the plate and announced the on road gmrs channel 19, with off road channel as 16. The Ham world uses 146.460 as their off road channel - and I never hear anything on that frequency. I am really starting to like my gmrs so much better than my ham radio. So much cheaper and used 99% more than the ham radio. Plus the antenna never gets hit by tree branches.
I thought I had a world class collection of t-shirts until I found your channel. Now the real question, do I spend all my money on radio equipment or those sweet t's....
I just got my GMRS license. I support the ratification of your channel 19 Travel Channel decree.
I once had a professor say that you don't want to be an expert. Why? we asked. He said, "an Ex is a has been and a Spert is a drip under pressure". Luv yur videos.
All Right! glad it's finally settled. Thanks, GMRS channel 19 it is.
I have always used 19 when traveling, and I monitor 9 for emergencies.
You're saving radio for me.
So simple it's scary. I'm glad that's solved. -- My only variation on this is that I transmit CTCSS 141.3. The reason being is that if anyone is monitoring that channel, but using 'travel tone' they'll still hear me. They'll also hear me if they're NOT using receive tone. I don't use CTCSS/DCS on my receive side, just on TX.
Do you have a mobile/base station or an HT setup this way? Curious because I was thinking the same on 141.3hz transmit only.
@@cchalfantusa Sorry, just saw this. It's a Wouxun HT that I use mostly in the car.
Will be on 19 from here on out! Thanks!
Well damn, I guess I'm going to have to buy a GMRS radio now. I thought I would be the only one on the road without someone to talk with.
I hereby ratify channel 19, and 16 when off road (I have a Bronco Badlands Sas)
I use the Wouxan KG-1000G+
On the Back window of my Bronco I have a reflective decal “GMRS Channels - 12, 19, 16”
On the “B” side of my radio It scans those 3 channels constantly, plus my personal repeater channel, and my families/friends radio channel we chose for ourselves.
Randy, as a humble person within your kingdom will follow your lead in using channel 19. I live in the biggest city in Kentucky, and will spread the word. Thanks for your time, and great video as always.
I think it's hilarious when someone asks a simple question and 20 hams all start arguing and giving the person 20 totally different answers...none of which pertain to his original question.
New sub here, just found your channel. Your delivery and knowledge of these radios and their capabilities is awesome! After watching your many videos on the UV-5R and Wouxun KG-935G, I am the proud owner of both radios and am learning something new every day! Thanks for sharing this type of information!
We must be back in the old days. I drive an an 18 wheeler and we still use channel 19 to inform, argue, complain, and share road conditions.
Great Randy (NotaRubicon), Thank you for clearing up the muck and setting us all on the true path... I am new to GMRS and am grateful for your guidance. May the Great Xenu grant you many, many FARS!!
Okay. Glad that's all settled. Thanks for posting.
And so it shall be from this day forward.....the road channel has been decreed as channel 19...All hail Xenu and 69 to you and your family, Your favorite viewer.
that would be the manufactures to put the channel in the manual to alert everyone.channel 19 would make sense!!! I agree
Hi there it's Richard from England, hope all is well. Although we don't have Gmrs band in the UK, but I found it interesting cheers😊😊
Everything is right the world. Thank you Queen Randy.
I like it. 18 Wheeler with a spare tire = 19. I was going to second this motion but since it's a decree, there's no need to. Signed JKSD (No that's not a HAM call sign, I just have more initials in my name than most folks.
Is that seriously how 19 came around
I have to say, you make great content that is easily consumed for this smooth-brained noob. Thanks for making my journey easier.
Let it be said, let it be written, let it be law. Great shirt sir. I see no problem with this decree.
Agreed and ratified! I, my 'kids', neighbors and friends have been using Channel 19 as the common (Road) channel for about 6 years now
Ok everyone, it’s not cool anymore, Since this nerd has been doing it. Back to Reddit to argue.
I just googled "trucker gmrs channel" and top answer is 19. So happy to have this handled by such a graceful leader.
Always funny and informative...thanks
I never thought that it wasn’t 19…just makes sense to me coming from CB.
Back in the days when everyone had a CB in their car, the truckers used channel 19 east of the Mississippi River, and some truckers actually used a different channel west of the river. I think that eventually changed, and the truckers just said the hell with it, and everybody started using 19 for travel info, etc.
My CB days go way back to 1975 in Texas and everyone was on channel 19. Last time I checked a map, Texas was West of the Mississippi River. (not to be confused with Judge Roy Bean who was 'the law west of the pecos') I was 14 years old and my trucker uncle brought me a Cobra 29 which is a 23 channel CB radio.
Awesome. From now on the standard has been established. From the Big Kahuna of GMRS himself.
BTW, where the hell did get that shirt!
Channel 19? How did you come up with that? Brilliant! 👍
He is the gmrs god.
Get a cb for road-trips, gmrs for off-road, all the truckers still using cb, fun to listen too
Love what your doing. thank you.
Since I have ventured into GMRS radio after most of my radio life involving CB, I have often thought that a GMRS community channel will be needed when most people eventually gravitate to GMRS so I naturally agree with using GMRS 19 as the travel channel.
Also, I have used CB channel 16 for my off-road communications in the past because of the obvious 4X4 but I thought I had invented that!
It must be true that great minds do think alike.
Years ago cb channel 16 was used for single side band.this was back when there were only 23 channels.
The SHIRT!!!!!! I'm ROFL LMAO in stitches!!!!!!
YESSSSSS! YESSSSS! Randy and The Great Zenu has done it. Thank you, YESSSS!
Thank you I have asked this question many of times...thank u
All hail the Queen!
Channel 19 it is! Thank you!
I Like it. Sound reasoning as well. Don't let the perfect be the enemy of the ham.
As your favorite user, I appreciate this practical solution.
