      I really enjoyed this video, I’ve known about trail braking and always thought it was best to be on throttle as early as possible, now I see I may be getting on throttle to early and I really think my trail braking needs smoothing out. And I think I’m still to hard on the brakes initially and braking too late. Pretty much everything you can do wrong I think I do 😅Thanks for the video, a lot of good info here. Going to be saving this one for sure.👍

      2x! Congrats my guy. As for the vid, I always thought you were supposed to hit the brake fast and hard right away and ease off...I'm learning that, that coupled with early throttle application I'm actually over driving the car, instead of focussing on being smooth and listening to what the car wants, and not what the book says. Thanks alot Daniel, and congratulations again from a fellow Canadian!

    Congratulations! I noticed in an onboard with you during the race that you were definitely lifting and braking earlier than the car in front of you. But in every corner you came out faster than the car in front. Not too much later, you passed them. I don't remember now who was in front, but I was struck by the difference in driving styles. You looked smoother and were definitely faster, despite braking earlier. Watching that and now this explanation has been a revelation to me. Thank You so much!

    Distance and initial brake pressure has always been second nature to me however, I’ve always struggled with the release. This may be a horrible technique but, I time the release of the brake on corner entry in sync with the amount I’m turning the wheel. It’s less like I’m steering with my feet and more like I’m just using the wheel and the brake pedal connected as one. This has worked well for me so far, and is how I learned trail braking but maybe I’m loosing time. 🤷Any thoughts? Always looking for ways to improve my driving technique. Started sim racing around 6months ago. Thanks.

    • @danielmorad
      @danielmorad  Před 3 měsíci

      It all depends on how much grip you have from the front tires. If you are breaking too deep and killing the grip in the front tire by breaking too deep into the corner and just dumping off the pressure when you turn in, you won’t carve the entry.

    i generally just overdrive the car by way too much for the first few laps of a new car or track, then dial it back to a smooth lap once i know the limits of the track surface and the car/setup. generally gets me 2-3 seconds within a pro ish time after about 45 minutes to an hour. being self aware of what youre doing wrong is the hardest part of improving, so having a seasoned driver as a friend that you can compare with and ask for immediate pointers really helps. as long as you can stand their snarky remarks😂

    Nice video two-timer. 😉With some cars I tend to use a fair bit of "maintenance throttle" (10-15% maybe) mid corner to help the balance. Unloads the braking demand on the front tire, transferring available grip in the friction circle to the turning component and also reduces likelihood of the rear end coming around as it shifts a little load to the rear tires. If done right it feels as if the car magically turns a tighter radius for the same speed.

    Great video and great explanation. When I started my sim racing journey 15 years ago it was fundamental to brake 100%, coast into the corner and apply throttle as soon as possible to have a nice exit. All through those years my driving style was very aggressive and many times I was losing grip without properly knowing why. In the past years I saw this tradition to trail-braking technique, even though was popular among racing drivers but without understanding the meaning of it; it was like a secret special ingredient. In past years (youtubers, guides etc.) no one was talking about steering with your feet.

  • @bobsorrell732
    @bobsorrell732 Před 3 měsíci +1

    Wow, this one drove it home about the balance. I am good one for being too aggressive with the throttle from the apex out. When I do as you say, back the brake point up and lighten up on the brakes, times drop quickly. Where I noticed this happening is the first several laps while I am warming up the tires, I am conservative on the brakes and throttle and my times are great. Once I start hammering the course, well, the hammer breaks the time. I agree, sometimes coasting helps settle the car. So, my next week, I going to work on ramp rates on the throttle and lighter pressure and brake points. Congratulation on the 24 hours and the GT4 race. We were sitting in the first turn throughout the weekend and I studied how you hit the mechanics of the turn every time - Good stuff.

Gained upto 2seconds on most tracks i am practicing. Thank you Daniel. Also, am so happy to see a fellow Canadian doing so well in he Motorsports world. Go team 🇨🇦 🎉

    Daniel this was a fantastic reminder video. Forcing me to go back to the basics and treat it more like a real car and not a video game car. Thanks for sharing. And yes I've been steering the care with my feet ever since the great Mario Andretti talked about it at INDY.

    What a GREAT video! You obviously put lots of time into this, and it shows. Wish there were more out there, as well made, with this level of quality in explaining things and presenting them - makes a HUGE difference to someone quite new to sim racing like me. Very appreciated. Thx, mr 2-time!

Congrats big time on the 2nd Rolex 24, I was cheering loudly for ya at the end, my man! Great job, holding off the Ferrari. I have to pick me up some of those neon yellow Moradness gloves/socks soon...👊🏻

    Congrats on the 2nd win dude! We were following Indy Dontje here back home in Holland when suddenly I saw your name in the same car so I had 2 drivers to root for!
    Little thing that helped me during iracing is putting the volume of the tires up a bit, I dont have those fancy pedals you have so its sometimes diffficult to know when your on the maximum level of grip. with the sound up you hear them screaming for mercy a bit more.
    Love the channel, keep it up

    Tried this for an hour. It took about 10 laps to get comfortable but then I beat my best time by over a second on Kyalami and it was effortless. It didn't even feel like a fast lap. It wasn't until I had gone across the line that I realised.
    I've been stuck on that lap time for over 3 years without improving.
    I just looked at the motec data and I still have a long way to go to stop over-braking so there will be even more improvement.
    Your advice has made such a difference.
    My original best time was 1:42.5 in ACC. Now that's a slow lap. :)
    Thanks.

    Yesterday I was training at the Valencia circuit (Ricardo Tormo) on ACC. Interestingly, while I was studying the telemetry data, I realized that I needed to change my approach to the brakes, and watching your video, I understood the concepts even more.

    Hi Daniel, great video! The terminology I felt is so useful to the way I think about cornering. A subject I’d love to hear more about is when and why to overtake or defend (or not) in an endurance race. That kind of race craft stuff fascinates me as an IMSA/WEC fan.

    Congratulations on Daytona 24h win Daniel, once again.
    Awesome video, I’ve been following you since few months, I do have decent times on iracing on few tracks and most of times I think I use the technique of feet and steer correctly, but at the same time I’m a bit unaware why I am doing it, feeling like it’s more like an instinct, controlled by the mood of the day 😂. Thanks to this video of yours I really became more confident, because calmly in 3 different difficult corners, you apply the technique correctly, explaining step by step why is correct to do that. I recently also started to forget about lap times, and stay focus on driving. I guess until I don’t master the right technique consciously , what’s the sense to be mad about being fast?
    Thank you again, treasure video especially in the way you explain it! Thumbs up

    Awesome video as usual. Congrats on the 2 time 👍🏻👍🏻👌🏼.
    I’m defiantly pushing way too hard on braking. I’m going to try dialing it back. And using a lighter longer technique.
    Hopefully I see a small improvement.
    Thank you for the advice 😎

    Great vid as always, Daniel. Great insight on car balancing and how to get an overall better understanding on the usage of both gas and brake pedals to control weight distribution troughtout a corner. Also, as you said, coasting is as important as being on the gas pedal, for a number of important factors. Cool stuff.

    Congrats Daniel I am so excited to see the success you are having, and giving back to us with your tips we’re so grateful. I’m trying to reduce my braking to increase my rolling speed through the apex and off, but I frequently feel like I’m getting run over from behind. It’s a difficult balance to master, especially in traffic.
