Edit: Seriously, you need to talk about this with your parents RIGHT NOW. The S&P500 has averaged 11% per year over 30 years. Google "Compound Interest Calculator" and see how rich you can become if you do some smart decisions NOW, and invest your money over four decades.

After about 500 hours in ACC i migrated to LMU in a heartbeat. Haven't really turned on ACC since. You make the point there, the car feels connected, you are IN it, not above it. That and the FFB has done it. The way the sausage kerb felt in Spa T1 just blew my mind. The second point is the car physics / crash model, where as somebody below already said, you can actually have some decent door bangin' racing without the feer of dying. The amount of times i got gently tickled in ACC to stupidly fly off the road or got into a spin ... i'm glad those times are over.
Really hope the guys get a chance to develop it further and build a full blown platform. Once they add driver swaps, the endurance racing will be really fun.
Great video though, thanks for the effort, i've been waiting for your review and am really glad it's in your good books.

yeah, rFactor2 always had the best ffb and physics since the beginning in 2012, problem was, the rest of the simulator was horrible, pushing people away. if you compare rf2 now with the 2012 version, it past through a gigantic improvement in all aspects, but the name reputation is already damage, so LMU is one way they found to get rid of the name rF2. Over 2500 hours on ACC, I jumped into this quite pumped. At first, I dropped my play time on ACC for LMU by a LOT. But I was in the discovery phase that you describe very well. It feels good at first when you learn how to drive those cars, but then when you start pushing it gets to a place where it takes away way too much rear end grip, similar to how AMS2 feels. Funnily enough you even see the AI struggling with that, having AI LMP2s and Hypercars drifting and losing their rear end in high downforce corners...
I ended up sticking back to ACC. No it is not the perfect sim, far from it, but it clearly is (for me) the best GAME overall. It is really entertaining to race in ACC.

I own all the biggest sims right now and lately I have been playing LMU exclusively. It has all what I ask for: Nice and intuitive physics, great multiplayer and great community with lots of clean racers, pretty good graphics... Some would say that it has few content but for a person like me, who does 5 to 10 online races a week, it's more than enough. Honestly, I can't ask for more. Maybe a couple more cars? Some extra circuit every now and then? Apart from bug fixes, everything else is just fine right now.

the developers said that in the future we can expect update with 2024 WEC season. So in it we will probably get LMGT3 car class ( 9 cars ) and new LMH Isotta Fraschini and LMHd cars ( BMW Lamborghini and Alpine ). And new tracks from 2024 so Losail Imola Interlagos and COTA.

Really enjoyed this. Great to have your unbiased opinion and detailed explanation. One thing I was going to mention is that a lot of people are saying that LMU is a simple rF2 reskin. After seeing remarks from the devs in the rF2 Discord about how it would be next to impossible to back-port LMU stuff to rF2 due to the changes, you really get a feel that they have made some wholesale changes between the two games. It uses the same game engine tech obviously, but its been revised beyond where rF2 is at. Since they don't need to make sure that old legacy content doesn't break like in rF2, they could finally do some new stuff they've probably been wanting to try for a long time.

"If iRacing and rFactor 2 had a baby it would be a perfect specimen" 😂 very true. With the FFB I think all sims are too direct because they don't model all of the flex and play in the chassis. In your hotlap you look to be overdriving the car a fair bit. I don't know how much success you're getting in the weekly races driving like that but it tends to be a bit slower than being smooth. I have definitely found moments where I thought I was going to lose the car but I caught it. But I don't think it's actually fast driving like that. Especially with it being endurance racing, your tyres would be toast.
I thought you were on point with this video really. For context I play mostly iRacing with a little rF2. But since LMU came out I've spent most of my time doing online races. I've played and enjoyed ACC in the past, but it's not my favourite. Same for AC and R3E. Driving dynamics aside, I like the attention to series specific details in LMU. Plus things like being able to roll through the paddock, having to take care in the pits, the marshal post light boards which actually work. The pit exit lights that actually work. Even the starting lights that actually work. There's many elements I wish iRacing would pick up. Elements that are maybe not important in a game, but make a difference if you have track experience.

This new tire model apparently solves the drifting meta (lowest rear wing and no rear arb) of rF2, but it's not finished apart from the Hypercars from what they said in the discord. Glad to see somebody confirming what I've been thinking all the time. The rear is just a bit too unstable, the rest feels good. Tbh I think the LMP2 and the Porsche 963 come a lot closer to what it probably should be in terms of rear end grip. But the GTEs are extremely sensitive, especially in slow corners - try driving on Fuji in a GTE for more than 20 minutes on the same tire set and the last sector will become an endless game of countersteering twice per second while managing throttle input one millimeter of pedal travel at a time.

Yep you're gt driver haha but that point will make a step up for this video❤❤❤

Hi Daniel, I need a little clarification from you here. When you say you want them to fix the rear slip angles is it that
    a) LMU rear tires need MORE grip so they aren't slipping as much?
    b) LMU rear tires should have a steeper fall off on grip so that rather than let you slide and recover, you spin out and crash iRacing style by going over the limit?
    c) Something else....

    • @Gamer-sq8vc
      @Gamer-sq8vc Před měsícem

Simply adding more grip will not fix the issue, it'll just "hide" the issue more due to simply having more overall grip. This issue, and certain other ones regarding vehicle behaviour/action and vehicle reaction during rear oversteer - especially under power - and relative to driver steering & throttle inputs/modulation are due to the underlying physics engine and tyre model the game runs on. It can even be traced back to before the RF2 / LMU physics engine & tyre model, all the way back to the first ISI physics engined games even before RF1, like, for eg., F1C99-02 (although the issues are certainly not AS bad as in those very early games). The underlying physics engine and underlying tyre model in Netkar Pro and Live for Speed are, by far, the best when it comes to this overall area of vehicle behaviour & reaction (driver control and how the vehicle behaves & responds to steering & throttle inputs during rear-oversteer especially rear-power-oversteer).

I was the guy in the comments in every video telling you to try RFactor 2 lol. Sucks that when you finally tried RF2 it was the newer and less refined (so far) LMU, but I'm glad to see you try this engine. In my opinion no other sim has translated to making me FEEL like I'm becoming a better driver IRL. How much of that is reality vs my perception is a different story, but this game engine has just always felt always felt more connected than other engines (the original Rfactor and Automobilista 1 also did this to a lesser extent). You often mention the ability to work the car in the corners, and for me, this is when sim racing is most fun, and this is what this engine does the best.

  • @DuM3D0

Daniel, slip angle abuse was an RF2 thing many years ago, now if you abuse it you'll pay it in the long run so, maybe it's useful for just an hotlap or maybe first laps of a sprint race.
Also you can manage the rotation with setup change and driving style.
About FFB, it's the only thing we can use to "feel the car" if it's too much you need to decrease ffb, on my SC2Pro I have 100% on truedrive and 18% on Rf2 car specific FFB and around 25% on LMU FFB and I can feel everything without "fighting" the FFB force.

@ebeninca doesn't matter what the PSI is, the main thing is just to go to the setup and turn down the PSI as low as it'll go. Then turn the differential preload to the max that it'll let you. I've always done that with rF2 and had good results.

I feel like LMU made the tyres a bit peakier, which is an improvement over rF2's overly wallowy tires, but now the cars are more prone to snapping without warning, especially considering you still need to aggressively chuck the car into the turn as you mentioned in the video.
No sim is perfect and this type of constructive feedback is what will change these games for the better. It's a shame how some people are really stubborn towards criticism of their favourite game, Raceroom's my favourite driving experience but I can acknowledge its physics still has issues, we need to be critical of these issues if we don't want our favourite games to stagnate in mediocrity.

    @NoNameLeft1500 Před 2 měsíci

I kind of agree to the slipangle thing.. but only kind of... it is a bit hard to explain because it is a combination of differend things... it is true you can get away with a bit too much slip angle without realy loosing time.. maybe even gain a little bit here and there.. but most of the time you are better of without using too much slipangle... mostly you are a bit faster without going to excessive slipangles... and keep it more in shape.. just a bit of slip.. a bit of rotation but not too much.. again like I said you can get away with too much (and in some corners benefit from it) ... but it is a very delicate balance/window... which I realy enjoy... and what I realized.. people who do use excessive slipangles.. they might be fast for a few laps.. but they are shredding their tyres... when you drive a bit more "normal" you can keep up with them in a race.. and after a few laps you see how they start to struggle... and are soon dropping 1-2 seconds per lap..
as example.. I had a race at spa.. qualified 3rd.. the first few laps.. they got a tiny bit away with very aggressive driving style... but I could keep up more or less with a more normal driving style... or more normal rotation... after a few laps they got realy into trouble with the tyres and I had it easy... I ended the race winning with almost 20 seconds in the lead... with only a slight dropoff in time..
however I don't know what the real fast pace is there.. I drove in the 2.15s with the GTEs and in the 2.05s with the lmp2 ... if it can go much faster then that.. maybe my statement it completly wrong.. but it felt like you can get quite good laptimes without using excessive slipangles
so yes I agree there seems to be a bit too much slipangle with what you still can get good laptime.. and maybe it should be slower if you use such slipangles.. and it feels like you need such slipangles to be fast at the beginning.. but as soon as you find the feel and balance for the window.. you realize you don't need it at that extreme to find the time... and like I said it does kill the tyres rapidly when going with those excessive slipangles.
so if they can fix that excessive slipangle amount without compromising the rest of the tyre I would be very happy ofcourse.. but if it needs to be there so there is some kind of headroom, it is also ok for me... because of the above reasons...
the example in blanchimont where the rear suddenly starts to be quite loose... yes I don't know if it's the tyre or the setup.. if it is the tyre then yeah.. maybe it shouldn't be that sensible... but if it is because of a quite front biased aero setup or so.. I could understand it... I think it is more the setup.. because if you go very soft on the steering input and just give the car the hint to go left there... it doesn't get unstable.. and just drives through it normaly (which is faster btw)..
it just seems to be quite pointy in terms of setup.
but yes I know rf2 is quite forgiving in terms of slipangle.. and likes rotation alot.
however for me LMU is the best sim outthere for me at the moment.. in terms of feeling and immersion... the feel on the brake is amazing.. you can somehow feel exactly what is happening... through the visual, feeling and also audio cues....it just feels natural
the audio is absulutely amazing in LMU I think... best sounding sim outthere I think.

I think you've raised a very interesting and important point that many people overlook, which is the details about force feedback (FFB). Indeed, almost everyone feels that the FFB in RF2 (LMU) is much better than in iRacing, providing more information and feedback, and I share this sentiment as well. However, I often ponder a question: could it be that in real-world racing, steering wheels don't convey as much detail as we experience in LMU? Could it be that iRacing's somewhat bland and slightly ambiguous FFB is actually closer to the real car feeling?
for example, looking at an ultra-high-resolution photo, where even the pores on a person's face are visible. Indeed, more information and detail are present, but in real life, our naked eyes can't perceive those things, so it actually becomes less realistic.

iRacing has also a slip angle issue. You can drive certain cars extremely aggressiv and it feels more like a drifting challenge than actual driving. The only difference is, when you drive like that you are really really quick in iRacing but the terrible tire model counter that really hard. You can drive like that maybe 5min before your tires overheating and you driving on ice.

Great to see your thoughts! I love the FFB ,driving and overall presentation of LMU already, but at first I thought there was an issue with the differential where the car just overturns and feels very light and sketchy on the apexes of corners (which you describe as the slip angle). You can see that in your video too that you seem to turn the wheel too fast and have to correct it because it turns in too quickly. I spend some time with the Aston changing all sorts of settings on the stock setup and managed to dial that out for the most part. Feels way more enjoyable this way! Also dialed in FFB and lowered it from 100 etc
In short, if you take some time to dial in both the FFB and the stock setup of these cars, the experience is excellent.

I haven't played it since like the 2nd day it came out so I'm hoping down the line they make an improvement there. iRacing is still my preferred sim not just because I think it feels better, but because of the competitiveness of the drivers. Hopefully the sim gets these improvements and the player base rises. At the moment, there's only an average of just under 800 drivers with a peak of a little over 2,000. That small player base is going to make lobbies have big skill gaps between drivers and that wouldn't be any fun.

I like Iracing... but it often feels "sterile". You go from feeling nothing... to being dead. I don't get that from LMU at all. Plus, the graphics and sound is awesome. If you are basing most of the "rear end squirminess" on the Porsche... that may be why. Try the Aston Martin out and you may find it a lot more like your Mercedes. With LMU I am finding it hard to want to go back to Iracing.

Can you look into Automobilista 2?
I've been enjoying it and with the new IMSA partnership, i'd like to hear opinions

to me AMS2 wins in terms of realism feel, physics, etc. but it's necessary to decrease LSD clutch plates to 2, on pretty much all cars.

Sad to disappoint, but AMS2 is a simulator of simulation. Fun game to show drunk or imaginary friends. Beautiful in VR too, but even more ungly simulation of simulation shines through. AC2 will eat it for first breakfast of early access.

How many brake pressure do you use? Why don’t you break 100% pressure on sharp corners?
