  • Brian May wrote "Save Me" about a friend whose relationship had ended, and played piano, synths and guitars (electric and twelve-string acoustic) on it.
It was recorded in 1979 and released in the U.K. on January 25th, 1980.
It was also included in the album The Game as the last track of the album released June 30, 1980.

That piano/guitar swap between Brian and Freddie was smooth as butter. Man, these guys knew how to put on a show.
One thing I love about Freddie is how he approaches singing in concert. It looks like it's just raw, natural intuition for him. His subconscious just knows what notes, inflection, volume, vibrato, distortion is needed at any given point, making it all feel much more fluid, and natural, which just pulls the listener right in. Great reaction, as always, man. Looking forward to the next one.

He was also appointed a CBE (Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire) by Queen Elizabeth in 2005, he was a Science Team Collaborator on NASA's New Horizon's Pluto mission, Chancellor of Liverpool John Moores University from 2008-2013, founder of Asteroid Day, has an asteroid named after him, is a huge animal rights activist and...just happened to be in the great band of all time.

You are right young man. I saw them on this tour at Madison Square Garden in September 1980. This song is my favorite off of this album, the Game, and done live it was killer. Each member of the band in their own right is a master of their craft. Freddie was/is the greatest front man in rock, Brian slays his hand made "Red Special" with ease, John hits the bass lines and Roger beats the drums like they owe him money. Aside from playing instruments and singing, each member of this band is a prolific songwriter having at least one #1 hit song.

So in the last few months I’ve been hooked to people reacting to Queen. I’ve watched probably over 50 people react and there are some brilliant ones, particularly to the somebody to love performance but your the first to notice all the small details, whether it be the transition between Brian and Freddie on the piano, Brian’s runs on the guitar, Rogers ridiculous backing vocals in somebody to love and even the understated bass in this song. This is only the second video of yours I’ve seen. I just hope you have done all the other classics. Amazing to see people in the states my age react to Queen for the first time. They’re unavoidable in Britain but I’ve only recently really appreciated their skill in live performances.

I am enjoying your thoughtful remarks. It seems that with Freddie and Brian, their instruments are extensions of themselves, and not a separate thing to be played. For a sample of Brian's solo work, see the video BIJOU. It features Brian making some gorgeous sounds with his guitar, with Freddie on screen singing the middle part, and Brian finishing the song. I have heard many rock guitar players making loud and harsh and rough sounds, but Brian's seems to express feelings by singing and crying as required.

All the members of Queen are/were multi-talented in lyrics, instruments and musical arrangements. We lost one legend with Freddie, and John chooses to stay out of the public. I know many badmouth Adam Lambert as Queen's frontman, but he keeps the band out there and brings in younger fans (personally I love him as the lead singer of Queen). I love how you love watching Queen's live performances. I was watching Queen live from the very early 70s and it was obvious from the first time I saw them that they would be huge. They just played so well and had this charisma. I saw Queen maybe 25 times over 13 years. They always performed.....always!
All four of them are staggeringly good multi-instrumental musicians. John and Roger both play lead guitar and John would very easily make the grade as lead guitarist for another band. Brian said that John was the best rhythm player he had ever played with. John also plays drums and piano. Here is John Playing acoustic guitar: czcams.com/video/nIT_S_l_iIQ/video.html
If Roger was in any other band he would be the lead singer: czcams.com/video/9_tJt4wL3IE/video.html I don't think he could play piano but he's an okay guitar player. czcams.com/video/Epmb1Z_6NkM/video.html
John and Roger were the bread and butter of Queen's live performances. They made the canvass for Freddie and Brian to paint on and they always needed that canvass so they rarely got the chance to show what else they could do. Plus John was very shy and didn't like being the centre of attention anyway. Who is the guitarist in the blue wig at 2:42 on this czcams.com/video/JAIOzM7SsMo/video.html
The only time I saw john play anything but bass on stage was here: czcams.com/video/XrGhMeqR1lI/video.html, where he and Brian both play guitar.
Queen wasn't all about Freddie and Brian. Roger and John were just as important and were probably one of the greatest rhythm section in music history....listen to the bass playing in Somebody to Love at Montreal, or Dragon Attack.....brilliant! czcams.com/video/_gAhvNCGK0s/video.html

1:25 Brian is a beginner piano player, he can't improvise on piano like Freddie would, so when hes finishing the memorized piece Brian is left hanging, cause ha can't come up with anything to fill the silence until Freddie comes in.
Same funny hanging occurs on "Who wants to live forever" intro is played live on keyboards by Brian...
Also Freddie was a beginner guitarist, "Crazy little thing..." guitar riff is all he can play live because he memorized just that piece.

Bri wrote Who wants to live forever. He wrote it for Freddy. Do the official video first before the live. You will be totally amazed by this. They are all highly educated but Dr Brian May has a PhD in astrophysics. They all wrote top hits, they all collaborated together on a lot of things there was no lead they were all equal members. Roger studied to be a dentist.Freddy studied to be a graphic designer and Deacon was getting into electronics of some sort I can’t remember exactly what. Brian is still making videos. Go to his Channel and take a look you will be surprised of all of his videos. New Horizons is his last. He worked on this project with NASA and they ask him to make a video about it it’s really really interesting. 🎸🎸🎸🔭

Between your interruptions every 15 seconds and the damn ads, it's very frustrating watching your reaction videos!

Even John (the basist) plays guitar live at one point!: czcams.com/video/XrGhMeqR1lI/video.html
Also, fun fact: Freddie actually forgot the lyrics at the start of the first line on the second verse, that's why he speaks it!
