This video was released after Freddie's death. Brian May wrote the song. The three of them (Brian, Roger and John) were desperately writing songs for Freddie, because they knew he wouldn't give up as long as he had work to do, he wouldn't give in until he could physically sing no more

He had been told that he would not live to see the album "Innuendo," so, when they started Made in Heaven, they were playing completely on borrowed time. For "Made in Heaven," Freddie did all his vocals first and then made notes for the rest of them. Usually, Freddie waited until all the music was made first and then added his vocals. That indicated that he knew he might not live to see that album, and thus, wanted to be sure his vocals got in. In fact, the song "Mother Love" had the last third done by Brian May as the singer because Freddie died partway through the putting together of the song and was never able to come back into the studio to finish it. (No, I didn't say he died AS he was recording it, because one song could be spread out through a few days.)

As others have stated, sadly, Freddie never got to play this one live. Basically everything off of the Innuendo album, including this song here, was all studio only. They stopped touring in '86, years before this album released.
If you want to see a sort of similar song, Brian May wrote Who Wants to Live Forever, which they did perform live. It's a very passionate live performance by Freddie.

Vocal range was low F2 to soprano F6. Some say freddie had a 4 octave range . Yet some scientists who studied Freddie's voice say he was 6 octaves and a piano only has 7. No one has ever been able to glide from one register to another as effortlessly as Freddie did. The Red Special, Brian May's guitar is one of a kind as is the sound that comes from it. Freddie was singing The show must go on but no one has been able to make that happen. Freddie's voice is one of a kind. I've been a Queen fan since the first album in 73. Glad you like Queen. You appreciate the specific bits of genius and man you can repeat 100 times if you like a section. No problem. I like that you call out Brian May. Without his soaring guitar to match Freddie’s soaring vocals, Queen would not be Queen. IMO May is the greatest lead guitarist ever. There's a reason we don't have a live Freddie version of this song, comrade: he was already gone when they made this one.
This was on the last album. He was super sick and he did this in one take. Brian May wrote the tune and some of the lyrics and asked Freddie if he think he'd be up to doing it since it was a bit taxing. Freddie slammed a vodka shot and said something like "fuck it darling, let's do it".

One take. Dying. Still sang this masterpiece a month or two before his death. Just imagine how impactful the meaning of this likely changed from originally written to being about himself. You can hear it in his voice(the amazing sadness and emotion he put into every word he ever sang), but really in These Are the Days of Our Lives.

To my utter heartache, there are no recordings of Freddie performing this live. But this song is at the top of my Queen playlist and gives me goose bumps every time I hear the chorus.
Written by Brian May. When he presented the final demo to Freddie Mercury, he had doubts that Mercury would be physically capable of singing the song's highly demanding vocal line, due to the extent of his illness at the time. To May's surprise, when the time came to record the vocals, Mercury consumed a shot of vodka and said "I'll fucking do it darling!" then proceeded to nail the vocal line in one take without problems. Dr. May provided most of the background vocals. (He didn't become a PhD in Astrophysics until 2007.)

When Freddy opens the door at the beginning, we see each time different parts of their career and their journey throughout the years.
It is fun to watch, but actually sad if you know why that's what you're watching.
    The song itself is fantastic!
    Thanks for reacting to it
    -----------------
I would like to make 2 special suggestions almost no one will give you:
    2 bands:
The Warning: start with "survive" at TedX, and then "21st century blood" official video. They have a new song called "dust to dust" which is incredible.
Motion Device: "thick skin" and then "doves and snakes'.
There's a reason almost no one knows them, but they still are amazing! You'll see it by yourself.
React to them and I will explain you why so good musicians are so unknown...
    Thanks a lot and enjoy!
    P.S.
I will post this comment on a lot of your reactions because you may not see it most of the time because there are plenty of comments.

No auto tune, no digital effects, just a man and his voice. The sicker Freddie got the more powerful his voice became. Brian and the rest of the band didn't think he was strong enough to even record this, Freddie slammed a vodka and said "I'll fucking do it darling" and nailed it in one take.
I hope when my wonka ticket gets punched in the mortality lottery I face it with half the dignity Freddie did.

You'll never find a live cut of this, because this was the last song Freddie ever sang before he died. He was weak and emaciated at the time, on the way out, and he did this in one take, giving it his absolute all. Astonishing music from a dying man.

Thank you very much for taking us through those very emotional songs of Queen. I can see how much you appreciated Freddie Mercury and the ever changing, always growing talent he was. You made it fresh again. And, you brought us back in time to recognize the true meaning, behind the last songs Freddie left us with. I agree with everything you said. , as if I were hearing them again for the first time. Fred would have loved your take on it all. I know he is smiling down on you, and very pleased that you did truly "GET HIM". Roger, Brian & John are all intelligent, brilliant musicians, as was Freddie . But, his unique voice & flair along with his determination and perseverance took Queen to the top! Fun loving, whether on piano or commanding the audience ,this man was a powerhouse. It showed in Fred's hardworking leadership, charisma & sex appeal ; he had it all. The man was so loved by all. Which brings to mind another very poignant song , " Too Much Love", where I believe he was trying to tell us of his fate. At the least he knew we would figure it out later on..So nice to be reminded of his greatness. I do believe it was Roger, who said in an interview, that he wished they had praised Freddie more, while he was here. I enjoyed your take on his voice, the heartfelt verses in those songs, and on the bravery of this extremely talented, very kind and humble human being. Thank you again. I look forward to hearing more from you.

Some things mentioned on other videos reacting to this. This was recording (vocals) in ONE take. Freddie was near the end of his life and gave it everything in one go. The video was a highlights clip video due to his declining health. It was never performed live as he didn't live long enough afterwards. Elton John performed it live (amazingly well) here: czcams.com/video/LgROJoX3OYM/video.html - which was John Deacon's (bass) last live performance with Queen as he took Freddie's death the hardest and retired from all public view. You can see it in his face. :(
Such a story behind this song.

    • @chrisnsf4626
      @chrisnsf4626 Před 5 lety +1

Yeah, there was a documentary with the producer David Richards from the Innuendo album this was taken from and it was one of the last songs to be finished. Brian May wrote most of it and it was originally parts of another song, but Freddie wrote some extra lyrics on to Brian and the bank's work to make it a song about performing right to the very end - and it was near his end per the lack of an actual video. His voice was still there just about, but he wasn't pushing it on some of the songs (like "I'm going slighty mad" etc). Richards said Freddie walked into the studio as if he had found another wind and they had the instrumentation down and Freddie downed a vodka and just belted the song out with as much power as he could find in one take and that's what you hear. You can apparently tell it was one take as Freddie was adding his own fills "yeahs" during it and some of the timing was apparently slight off, but the edit sorted it out - but he was so good live, they left most of it untouched. Hell of a talent.

You were saying that you wanted to hear this live. They didn't do it live with Freddie. Freddie was near death and could barely walk when they cut this track. Brian May said that he told Freddie that he didn't think he could do it because of his health (he was dying from AIDS) and Freddie took a shot of vodka and told him, fuck that, let's do this darling! This voice you hear was Freddie pulling his shit together, as he always did, right before he was gone from the world (all too soon). The most brilliant voice on the planet and sorely missed. God bless, Freddie! You are and always will be my favorite!
