- The Traxxas Sledge was announced a few weeks ago and it continues to be a hot topic in the RC community. Thank you to everyone that took the time to watch our first video on the beast. In that video Greg mentioned a revisit where he would take the Sledge out for a speed run and this is that video. But beyond speed testing, Greg takes a few minutes to chat about some comments and messages he received about the Sledge. He’ll address some questions in this video and even do a truggy comparison too for those interested in design differences of a few of today’s popular models.

Your reviews have always been spot on Greg, you keep doing you. The amount of animosity in this hobby is staggering. At the end of the day we’re all playing with toys, just have fun with them!
* your
@@EZK4ME93 dang you got me. Lol
Thank you. Finally somebody has broken down the obvious. The truggy style has been around for a while now and has evolved to include many models. All the controversy is from Arrma only fanboys because of the previous lawsuit. I have 4 Arrmas and just as many Traxxases..(Traxxi?) so I consider my opinion unbiased. Great video!
That is why I always tune in to your vids. You have experience and maturity. The outside chatter is just that. Everybody has an opinion and wants to be heard and you respect that but laser in on what needs attention. You are a great teacher and guide.
I’ve always liked the way you introduce new products. Very positive, honest and informative. Thank you for that! Thank you for settling the score on this one. It is surprising that there’s so many haters in such a fun hobby. People need to chill out and have fun. That is why we are all in this hobby, right? ✌️
Traxxas didn’t copy the Kraton but clearly they were targeting it. And I’m glad they did. I love my 8S Kraton EXB and will definitely buy a Sledge; I just wish I hadn’t wasted my money on the mediocre Maxx v2!
Wonderful as always and if there is any misunderstanding it must be on viewers part because you my friend have been totally consistent in your presentation’s with detailed information and accurately showing every rc’s feature’s ..now place your hands on your shoulders one at a time and dust those haters off ..ain’t got no time for that(haters)
Hey Greg, I got into the hobby last year and your videos were a driving force in that decision haha. With your Original Traxxas Sledge video that was a self-contained review for that product. If you wanted to do a comparison video I would have expected a separate one. Thanks again for the great videos!
Nobody more knowledgeable than you on CZcams. These reviews have greatly helped me in my decision making process and just overall understanding of the various brands and their various intricacies.
Your speaking logic. Not sure people will understand. 😂
Thank you for the great reviews! After seeing these on the Sledge, I really considering getting one. I was planning on picking up the new Maxx next week but that might change! Great info on all the videos you put out, helps tremendously!
When I first started out in media, and doing reviews on everything, the first thing I was told is to be honest with my reviews. In the publication that I worked for, I never once seen a honest review. Good or bad, it just need to be said. As far as comparisons go, I just feel that you're doing a great job in creating separate videos and keeping the focus on each subject that you are reviewing. Then when you put the two subjects together, then that's when it becomes a comparison video. Don't listen to anyone that hasn't done reviews before. Your channel is great, I subscribed a while ago because I love the videos you have up. You don't ever need to explain yourself to anyone. Keep the awesome videos coming. Aloha
Love your videos dude! Always helping people out and super happy about everything lol
Such a sound overview! I run both cars - a modded V5 Kraton and an out the box Sledge. I got a second shipment Sledge - no QC issues re O-rings, pinion or bolts. Always run-in a new RC with a couple of 4S and tighten everything each time! Out the box, the Sledge is much better quality and a stronger design. Better chassis strength, better servo/electrics, better body, tougher suspension. Stock, the Kraton feels faster, with a more aggressive ESC. The Sledge is more expensive, but you have to spend more on the Kraton to get it as good. The Sledge feels next generation, but we'll see what Arma come out with next - tougher chassis and higher quality, I hope!
I often look up your reviews on a vehicle. You seem to be honest and forthright in the Good, Bad, and the Ugly in your tests.
Amen ! 🙏🏼 they’re competitors they’re gna compete against each other. I love both brands both my top two !
I love your videos man. Super informative. Thankful for you!
I think to make everyone (or well maybe just me), you should send it my way Greg.
Great content as usual.
Great video, Greg. I’ve bought several RCs based off of your reviews. Love your channel!
Awesome video! Great to see the truggy basher class expanding!
Always on point, nice job buddy 😎
You do a great job on your videos Gregg I enjoy them. Ignore the questions and comments from the haters and keep doing what you are doing.
Thank you for this Video!
Haters are gonna hate keep doin what you do and you are exactly right on the info you give. PS. Traxxas RULES deal with it lol. 👍👏
Excited for this one
Keep up the good work, long time fan
Your reviews are awesome!!! Keep doing it the way you're doing it. I completely agree with everything you said about this brand and that brand. Be glad we have choices in the hobby and just buy what you like!!! Me personally I've sold all my Arrma's and I run Traxxas. Just my preference. They serve me well and most parts are interchangeable so I can keep a few spares on hand for multiple trucks. Got a few different brand of crawlers and Traxxas and Element are my two favorites in that bunch. Love the videos and in depth reviews!!! Keep up the good work and thank you!!!!
Well done !👍
Just watched razor RC first look (no driving) video and his perspective and thoughts on the truck are very similar (though not as in depth and no driving yet) to yours. And is also dismissive of the Sledge copying the Kraton.
Again, thanks for all the great content and I’d never feel pressured to explain yourself. You provide very detailed reviews and consistent formatting that makes it easy and enjoyable to get as much of a feel for the truck as possible through a video. Any vehicle I consider buying, I immediately search your channel.
And all of that is FREE for us viewers.
All that to say - ignore silly comments. 👊🏼🤞🏼
Great reviews!! Sledge is a good RC.
I'd rather watch other RCers bash their trucks . I'm happy to monster truck around . Your the best Greg !
You should not have to explain your self. You Sir are Honest and very informative. Thank You for all U do.
Good on your for not letting the comments keep you down. Love the vids. As a new guy to the hobby what would really help me is maybe some tool reviews.
I’m not going to lie. The comments were rough especially when I put so much time into this one between filming and testing. I do need to get back to some support gear reviews. I’ll work on that.
Great video. I don’t get the fuss…Traxxas has the Rustler 4x4, Arrma answered with the Vortex… Arrma has the Kraton, Traxxas answered with the Sledge.
I would Love to see Traxxas hit the Hoonigan style with an InfractionISH car!!
Glad to hear you tell people to let go of the copy thing, I think you said it perfect they are same class of truck, there will be similarities, but lots of differences....well done great vid!!👍👍
I really want that car! Looks super to me.
A true class act! 💯 well said brother.
Great video Greg. It all comes down to what you like and maybe able to afford. I think they are all cool in a way. Take a look at the racing truggy's. They all look the same from a distanace.
I like your style of video. Very informative. Yes and alot of people are caring about the wrong thing. You said it best we are going to get better products. Better durability better support... it's all good for the hobby. That said you must like this car? You've run it quite a bit 🙂👍😎
That’s a nice track you have there
The trouble is we seem to have a younger age group that have developed a fanboy mentality and if you say anything derogatory about their choice of manufacturer or model, and except for a few anomalies all the different class's or styles are going to have a similar look, and at the end of the day does it matter, but I must admit I do not like TRAXXAS go sue anyone that uses any ideas or even part of a registered name, and at the end of the day the things that TRAXXAS hit ARRMA about they should not have as they poached the ideas from 1-1 vehicle designs so I think a little of live and let live should be applied in this hobby.
As someone who doesn’t own a sledge or Kraton it’s interesting to see all the differences. There’s no way the sledge isn’t more durable. The C hubs and 1 piece plastic links should make it stupid tough, and you can still adjust your links with the different mounting points. Only issue I’ve seen is the motor mount moving on the sledge, could be solved with loctite? Maybe?
I haven’t had an issue with mine. But I did remove it when I tore the truck down to show it in my first video. When I do something like that I always add fresh locktite since I broke the original bond. But this setup is just like a nitro engine motor mount design that has been used for decades. It should be fine or extra locktite should the fix if it does move.
@@rcdriver yea I’m sure even without extra loctite it’ll be fine for 99% of people, the only person the motor mount issue has happened to (that Ive seen) is Kevin talbot…. So ya can’t really blame it for that I suppose 😅
Great video. Just subscribed
I love cool people like you.
Looks great, hope it’s a durable chunky thing and I’ll be investing in one. Maybe see if a V2 lands though.
I was so impressed with the sledge I drove one yesterday and was astoundee with the speed and stability over rough terrain or jumps. Shop manager drove it full speed into a sidewalk and it only broke a shock cap and buckled the chassis a little bit. Two replacement parts and it is good as new, definitely putting one in my collection, still gunna get an outcast 8s though lol
Get the 8s exb one and put your own electronics in it the spectrum ones have been catching fire
@@onemansvideos2134 the fires a feature
Thank you for the great review. This garbage about copying needs to stop. It'll calm down in a bit. Can't wait to get my hands on this. Haven't been this excited since trx4.
You have great honest reviews. Ignore the trolls! 🤘🏼🤘🏼
Great review. You some it up, hope people are listening.
Thank you for running a speed test. This is definitely the RC car for me. You know what would be cool is to take it hill climbing… is it good for that?
Thank u again for your review
I ❤ that truck!
Great video I like the fact you strip the cars down to see it's guts, not many do that
It’s because it adds hours and hours of work to the overall production of the video. If I took all that out, it would make my life easier and I could probably make more videos. But I believe it helps people learn and helps those truly interested in RC. So I continue to do it lol.
@@rcdriver yeah very time consuming, keep up the good work 👍
Traxxas has a Winner There!! 👍👍🏆
Have had a blast with mine. Far more durable than my Kraton EXB hands down. Actually I havent driven it much myself. My 7yr old has been beating the poop out of it. 1 hinge pin, 1 lower rear hub pin and 1 wing mount so far. He has been back flipping it like crazy. For those that think arrma invented the truggy, that is kind of funny. Thunder Tiger ST-1 is where it all REALLY started. Everybody under the sun converted them to brushless and installed a tower to tower brace etc. Super tough truck! Then thunder tiger realized what they had on their hands and they came out with the MT4 G3! Still a great basher truggy to this day!
good review thanks
people have nothing to do and like to complain
Fast as fluff bois
Are you going to do the high speed ⚙? lm interested 🤔 . Don't think l have seen that yet.
Any chance of a chart, bashing and speed run comparison of the 1/8 Truggies between Kaiju EXT, Arrma Kraton, Team Corally Punisher XTR and Traxxas Sledge.
Seems like I have more wheel speed in the front compared to the rear axle. Is this normal and is it ok or is there a way to fix it? Ty
Hey I just purchase a sledge. What upgrades do you recommend right out of the box. I'm going to change the receiver Servo. Do you recommend keeping the ESC and run Traxxas battery and if so what battery you think I should run how many milliamps should I get. Also I have a I charger but since I don't want to change deans how is the Traxxas charger? Thanks in advance for getting back to me.
I‘m a technical person and somewhat Traxxas biased - and besides parts availability, I chose Traxxas because of the intelligent plastic design. I think that’s innovative. Technically, I only own monsters trucks (Xmaxx, Maxx, Erevo) and I started looking at truggies like the Kraton and the Teknos for their design. I feel like a stiff chassis has profound influence on the driving behavior. However, I hesitated buying an Arrma due to the known issues. These issues can be mostly removed by upgrading, but that’s expensive. But driving a Kraton is truly a pleasure with the low cg and all that, I understand the Arrma fanbwois. Finally, I decided to go for an Et48 basher style and then Traxxas came up with this out of nowhere! Will the sledge be tough as the maxx and pleasant to drive as the Kraton? I will decide in November 😀
I've been looking into getting another 8th scale basher and that 2022 corally xtr is looking sweet.
I agree. Love the roller to make it mine. I always rip apart rtr's to use my own spektrum and power. Looks like it holds promise. Time will tell
Amen 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏 keep up the info their all going to have things alike until you do a deep dive...
Haters always gonna hate its like this in sports as well grrrr remember it's not a solo hobby it's a big community with all kinds of brands just enjoy what you enjoy
I like the sledge body better than the kraton and kronos. Ended up getting the Kraton BLX. Cant wait for it to get here. I'll likely buy the proline Ram body for it eventually.
Hey G, watching a couple vids, it seems that the Sledge is a bit undersprung…the first video sounded like it was bottoming out over the jumps. Maybe it’s a fast not enough rebound?
Can’t wait until Team XRay to come with their power Truggy Truck.
Ur reviews have been great since day one...there is always gunna be whiney people who always wanna pick...the closest thing as u pointed out was maybe the wing and even then they are diff....wish i had the experience that you and alot of utubers have to do what u guys do...keep it up greg...👊👊👊👊
It's the wing it is basically the same and if Traxxas never sued people probably wouldn't talk crap so much
I don't know why people trying to say Traxxas copied the Kraton is not true, Traxxas only wanted to get into the trend of 1/8 Truggy , if they cannot do that, they will be outclassed, it a Good thing Traxxas made it so that it can compete
Iv got a beginner 1/10 scale Hsp Lion monster truck. Goess pretty damn quick with 10s Lipo that came with it. The turning axles keep popping out of the wheel cog on one side. Takes a bashing though. These traxxas sledge are abit out of my price range
If anything I'd say the Kronos is more of a "copy" of the Arrma. 100% agree with you, they are all bound to look similar
I was thinking that also from what was shown.
The TC does look very similar at first glance. But once you really compare them close up, you start seeing all the design differences.
I can see there is loads of different details. In all the truggies. Just fanboys being fanboys 🤣
what would be the best battery that fits the sledge. I saw that the 6s lipo Gens Ace 5000 MAH with 45C fit perfectly. I think I want to run the 6s single battery over the two 3s Lipo. I heard you get better throttle response. I am new to this and I am not sure which route to go. Money is no object. I just want the most performance. I did see an RC power battery that is 6S lipo with 6000 MAH and had 100C. This seems more powerful but I am not sure if it fits. There should be a good video out there if someone found the best battery for the sledge to give the best performance.
I’m like you want a sledge but as I have spektrum charger and current ec5 batteries don’t want to have to buy traxass batteries and chargers.
Heard a few talk about connectors but not sure if anyone in real world has had any issues.
Also do I loose the smart features I.e. the speed app on here do you need smart batteries for that ?
Can you tell me what the stock shock oil weight is in the new traxxas widemaxx v2. Directions say 30w but alot of ppl say 60w is factory?? Love this review channel btw
If I remember correctly the stock is 30wt. 60wt is probably the minimum you should be running if you’re going for bigger air.
@@rcdriver ok so would 40 or 50w be a good upgrade for backyard bashing and occasional big jumps
Nice video. Will you do a test with a speed pinion? And see if it hits the 70+mph tag on the box?
I will have more on the Sledge. Some options are on the way. Not sure if the required spur gear is available yet for that top speed run. I’ll do my best to slip a new speed test into one of the followups.
@@rcdriver thanks for the reply. I eagerly await your videos. Thanks for the great content 🙌💪
Well its simple, everyone knows Traxxas sues even 3rd parties in the past for making parts that work on their platform, AND YOU KNOW THIS. So if Arrma released a 1/5 scale that looked like the X-Maxx, you KNOW there would be lawsuits from Traxxas. And hiding behind "the same class" isn't true, because there's a Kraton 1/5 and it looks NOTHING like the X-Maxx. Look i live within walking distance from Traxxas headquarters. I own the X-Maxx, HPI, ARRMA, Tamiya..ect, I'm a rc enthusiasts, I love your videos, I'm a longtime subscriber...but I think its a little disingenuous to pretend that with the history of Traxxas, they wouldn't attempt to sue. Great video brother.
👍
I'm fairly new to the hobby but one thing I've noticed is that I've yet to see a negative reaction to any hobby-grade brand besides Traxxas. They seem to get a lot of flak, I assume because they've been litigious in the past? Like no one ever has anything negative to say when Losi puts out a new car, or Arrma, or Axial etc.
RC cars have been around for quite a while and naturally the designs that work and are in style and have proven track records will shape (literally and figuratively) car designs going forward. Notice how most airplanes look the same? Yeah, cause they stay in the damn air that way. Cars tend to have four wheels and the engines are in the front. No one really experiments because _it just works_. Same thing is going to go with scaled down cars.
I either missed the Team Coraly review or wasn't all that impressed by it... Most of the ruffled feathers are pretty much because of Traxass's send in the lawyers tendency, I learned last week they have been in a lawsuit with HBO since Feb last year. So a lot of people probably would like to see them get a taste of their own medicine. As aside from "truggy" is a truck with a goofy wing, take the bodies off and the differences are pretty clear. If they had bothered to pay attention they would have seen the differences.
Keep up the good work Greg.
The TC review is in the works. Mother Nature keeps messing up my test sessions.
Only thing I'm upset about is that they made you feel you had to respond to their bs. Keep on keepin' on.
I just want to reinforce I’m here for the RC enthusiast first and foremost. The comments did sting a bit because I put so many weeks into making sure I filmed and tested this truck enough knowing critical eyes would be on it.
Thank you for “all the reviews “ I’m 55 and enjoy all brands you review. I own about everything Armma and Traxxas and Losi up to 5th scale that they all make. I have two extreme Kratons in the sledge size and will get two Traxxas sledges……why cause I can. What is discouraging is all the fanboys that hate Other brands bashing someone like you or others and what is reviewed by the rc community are completely CLUELESS. If you didn’t have them looking are coping similar things then they would have a monopoly on the market……… imagine what you could and would charge for your product with no choices. Like mommy use to say…..if you don’t have something good to say keep your damn mouth shut.
Thanks for covering this. It's like all the kidos these days think Arrma invented the truggy. I think it's sad so many people in the hobby have no interest in researching it's history or can think critically. According to them we might as well say the Sledge is a 1/8 copy of an HPI Nitro RS4 MT. 4wd stadium trucks are just smaller truggies right?
So the Corally is way more of a Kraton than the Sledge but Arrma Fanboys arent crying over that, lol. I dont see the point of complaining, its great having more choices!
There are plenty of those comments in my TC reviews too. But once people look closely at the two, they’ll notice design differences there too. @aussiercplayground has a very good video that breaks everything down. But yes more choices means better products for enthusiasts as the companies compete with each other.
That price point tho....jeezzz
I bought one but I don't know how to turn it off I had to disconnect the battery so it would turn off
Yes, unplugging it is how you turn it off. It's so you don't accidently leave the LiPo batteries plugged in when it's not in use.
Like the Nero and revo?
Like a lot of releases.
People feel different about the similarities between products when traxxas is involved due to they’re past litigious activities….you must recognize that. Great videos by the by
I had a Jammin truggy way before Arrma ever had one. It's just a lot of shade being thrown to be angry.
why have you not run kronos
V5 Kraton body looks strikingly similar to the Sledge. That and the fact Traxxas took direct aim at Arrma in their promotional material is why everyone is saying it's a copy. Of course Arrma didn't invent the Truggy class, just like Traxxas didn't invent the lay down shock design. Only one RC company is suing it's competition 😜
The reason everyone was calling the sledge out is because it feels like Traxxas sent out tons of these for free to get good reviews.
But did they? In my review I let everyone know my chassis bent, the wing mount broke and the batteries kept falling out. The first two problems go against the main points of their marketing. And in this video I just reviled an issue with the connectors coming apart. It’s amazing how some people just glazed over that.
A lot of RC vehicles are just like real vehicles. It’s when you look under the body, that’s when you see the difference.
I get that how can you compere yes they may be similar but they are very differant
If you think the Sledge is a copy of the Kraton, you must also think the F-series is a copy of the RAM. It's called Competition. It's gonna happen. Buy the one you like best.
Like. That. Sledge you. Have. To. Change gearing?
Only thing I don’t like are the tires, they’re gonna be terrible after about ten runs
Who knew there’s RC Becky’s out there - “I wanna talk to the hospital manager! My baby looks like me and that’s unfair!”
They are more similar than the nero and revo are!
What. Would. You. Say. Is. The. Sledge. A. Better. Basher. Than the. Kraton ?
Everyone wants a comparison video, why?? Other than tech specs what good do they do. Can I tell you the most comfortable shoes or best pizza? I agree with your approach. Show details and customer has to decide.
G! Id like to see a shootout between a Kraton, Sledge, and Tekno ET48!! Take over the CZcams world with a shootout!!
Do. You. Half. To. Change the gearing. To get. 70. Out. Of. The. Sledge
