    I thought I was the only pick enthusiast, but it seems there’s more of us! Great to finally find a pick focused channel on the youtubes. Love your content, m8.

    After 15 years of using a standard jazz 3 I spent over £100 on plectrums when i went on the trip to find the ULTIMATE pic.
    After many hours and £100 later?
    I switched from nylon jazz 3 to Ultex jazz 3... 😩😂

      It's interesting how often the thing we look for doesn't need to be a big change - in this case it's simply a change in materials. Even though it took £100 to get there, you know that what you've settled on works, so the money wasn't wasted, and you know you've tried a good spread of viable options. How many instruments get bought only for a player to discover what they needed was a different version of what they already had? It's ace that you've found something that works so well 👍 🎸⛏️⛏️

      Try carbon fibre max grip. I keep trying other jazz iii which is why I'm here but everytime I pick the carbon fibre max grip, my right hand becomes automatic.just dont think of it at all.

    The Loomis is my choice for speed and precision. If I have to play anything with a crazy amount speed it is just easier and comfortable.I can also land harmonics way easier.

      @@HeavyRepping glad to hear mate. I would love to know your opinion between those red bear picks and the closer alternative made by Dunlop. Ultex. I know they are very different, but I can see lots of similitudes as well. I'm currently using those jazz III XL and I really want to compare em with the red bear Guthrie govan pick

    Hey man thanks for the review I was hoping to find some video tests of the Loomis pick...I have a petrucci pick as much as I love it's design I couldn't get used to it so I ordered some Loomis picks bcus of my playing style....I need something aggressive and precise...
    Thanks again man

    Hi heavy repping! Thanks for doing these comparison videos, very useful for us during the quarantine period.
    I'm looking for a new pick between 1mm - 1.5mm for the electric guitar and primarily leadwork and was wondering if the Petrucci Jazz III (Generation 1 pick) would be a good choice? I almost only use the J3 shape because i'm prone to dropping the larger picks compared to smaller picks, and I don't have to choke down as much.
    Open to any recommendations too if it is roughly the J3 dimensions too, thanks!

    • @HeavyRepping
      @HeavyRepping  Před 4 lety +1

      I think the Petrucci Shield model would be a good choice for what you've indicated - it's a great pick, albeit quite serious in its tone. If you want to keep under the 1.5mm mark, there's lots of choices from BHL, JRC, Gravity, Taylor, Howling Monkey etc, so drop me a line on Instagram/Facebook and I'll send you some links rather than spamming them here.

      @@HeavyRepping Thank you for the prompt reply, I think I'll go with the Petrucci model in the short term for now. It stocked in my local shop and can buy it online. Will hold off on BHL and Gravity picks until the global situation clears up a lot of import to my countries needs to be checked right now.

    I go back and forth with the Sharp pick shape. It's REALLY good when sweep picking for the precision, but for strumming it's obviously not as smooth. With certain metal rhythm parts it's also quite a drag if you don't choke up on it enough. The tone is very unique though! I think it's one of those picks people write off too fast after trying them. They definitely require a different technique from rounder shapes, jazz iii included.

    • @SenkoLoaf
      @SenkoLoaf Před 4 lety

      I pretty much always choke up with my grip on any pick because of my picking technique, it also allows me to do pinch harmonics without having to move my thumb to a different position

    I like the prime tone Jazz III but I wish it was a little bit longer and a tad thicker with the grip of Matt Heafy's signature jazz III. I guess I'll have to get good enough to be recognized so I get my own signature pick lol

    Is it closer to the Jazz III size or the Jazz III XL? I love the Jazz III XL Ultex for everything and the size is just perfect for me.

    • @HeavyRepping

      The Trinity is closer to the XL, it's like an XL in three directions.

    I’ve tried both, loomis: I don’t like at all :/ it has to much grip on the low string, and it’s difficulty to obtain that smooth passage etc. also is too long, I like to stay closer with the strings. The Petrucci’s trinity is stunning, attack, smoothness and clarity! My opinion ;)

    • @HeavyRepping
      @HeavyRepping  Před 3 lety +5

      I was honestly surprised that I liked the Loomis as much as I did - I also prefer being close to the strings and a much more blunt tip as well. A number of people I've spoken to who are into really toothy picks like the Loomis, and the Sharp on which it's based. Just as well there's so many things to choose from 🎸⛏️⛏️

  • @3226922

    Trinity is good, but don't knw why Dunlop didn't made trinity as thick as the JP Flow. That would be even better.

  • @bingefeller
    @bingefeller Před 4 lety +2

    I find the Dunlop Sharps really, really hard to play with. For me they seem to catch on the strings, even with new Ultex Jeff Loomis Sharps.

    • @HeavyRepping
      @HeavyRepping  Před 4 lety +2

      As I mentioned in the video, I'm not a fan of the Sharp, even though the Loomis won this Face Off. It was more fun to use, and I definitely prefer the Ultex over the Delrin version, but I know there's plenty of players who dig it. It's very long-feeling, even though it's the same length as a 351. Just goes to show how the shape of your tip makes a massive difference!

    • @jfo3000
      @jfo3000 Před 4 lety

      The sharp is not forgiving at all. If I don't choke way up on it I dig in too deep and get hung up. Maybe I should try one for two weeks exclusively though and see if I adjust.
