In this exercise video Meredith is guiding you through some easy to follow seated stretches to help with sciatica pain.
These stretches are all done seated in a sturdy chair so make sure you have one ready and available. These are all beginner level movements that you can do in the comfort of your own home and will help with relief from sciatica pain throughout the lower back and back of the legs.
Make sure you preview this video first so you know what movements to expect and only do movements that feel comfortable for you and that don't cause any outstanding pain or discomfort.
Remember to always keep your water close by for water breaks and hydration, have a great stretch!

I have spinal stenosis along with slip disc and disc bulge, can I do these exercises?

I needed this after slightly wrenching my low back this afternoon. Couldn't do the bridges, but just stood up and sat back down instead. Plus, cold packs alternating with hot packs before doing the video. Really helpful - thank you! Have a good week ahead! 🌟👏🫶

67 years old. Went for xrays 2 days ago because of sciatica pain that only went as far as my knee. While waiting for results, it got even worse last night! (Didn't think that was possible). After doing these stretches, pain has already decreased 50%! I couldn't even do the last exercise because I need a chair without arms, but thank you so much! I've been wanting "senior" exercises, so I subscribed to your channel.

Thank you. For 5 days I could barely walk due to most likely the priformis muscle. I havent been able to sleep. I have been searchibg and doing all these exercises that werent workingz The worst was they had to be done on the floor. Getting off the floor was excruciating. Then I found your chair exercises. I did them this morning first time. Pain gone almost completely. I have done them twice today so far and I can walk and sit and get up without screaming . Thank you. I have this problem about twice a year for the last four years. I will continue to do these. Excited that you added the strength ones too. I even tried actually PT tgru my insurance and it made things worse. Thank you so much

I'm praying these stretches work for me. I was in the ER Saturday because of a sciatica attack and all they did was give me muscle relaxers and pain meds. I wanted an answer as to why this keeps happening.

I did the exercises for the second time & got worse afterwards. ( I have Stenosis L4.L5.S1) SO, definately won't do again. I really like your workouts in spite of dealing with stage 4 OsteoArthritis of the hips & double hip replacements indicated.( I had an accident 5yrs.ago)

I tried the modified bridges again, like last time and get bad spasms in my front, stomach area. Did I do it wrong? Or am I just out of shape? Probably both! 🙄
I stopped and just stood up and sat down-- at least I was doing something. Plus, the stretching after that helped the spasms calm down. I really enjoy doing your videos.... Thank you again. You're the best! 🌟
I am sorry you are getting spasms while doing that move. I would eliminate those until you feel a bit stronger in the core area. If it keeps up, it just might be a move that is not the best for you. But keep up the others that feel good! Keep me posted! Take care!
I appreciate your reply and advice. I'm definitely a work in progress. I actually was amazed I was able for the first time to do the maneuver. Been working on core strength recently - so I know I'll get there. I'll be careful- don't want to throw my back or hip out. I’m going to start these excercises straight away I’m in so much pain at back of hip to knee I’m 77years old and an mri scan has shown a narrowing of my spinal cord causing an impingement so fingers crossed 😊

These can be done a couple times each day, as you feel the need to do them!
How often should you do them if hurting? Once a day.. twice? Just ready to get better. Thanks just don't want to overdo them.
You can do this multiple times a day, to get the stretches in. Also picking a favorite couple of stretches that feel best and do those through the day.

Hi I have had two failed surgeries for sciatic, they think it’s pinched. They also fused my L4-L5. That was done 3-4 years ago, I have had spinals injections that didn’t help. But I found Chinese acupuncture helps me so much. I always exercised all my adult life and was a daily walker. I’m trying to give you a little history off me. Do you think that these exercises would help me. I can’t stretch very far, but if I was to do these maybe twice or 3 times a week. Do you think my body wouldn’t loosen up some, that I wouldn’t be so tight all the time? I really look for your reply. Thanks

Hi! I have not addressed lumbar spinal stenosis specifically. What is safe is to only do what feels best for you, and strengthening the core to protect the spine. Remember that always when you do your exercises. I will possibly add that to a list of workouts to create, I like it! Thank you and remember I am here for you!
How many times can I do this throughout the day?
Hi Bonnie, 2x per day is sufficient. Start with 1x per day and see how your body does with it. If all feels good, you are feeling relief, then an addition on another session can be done. I hope this helps! Take care, Meredith

Yes, piriformis syndrome can arise from a sciatic compression. Keep y the exercises and stretches, they will help tremendously!
