    Oh and adding exacto blade scratches on the plastic adds a cool effect, and would probably pop real well with your dry brushing!.

      Sanding it kind of gave it that scratchy effect. I think for something this large steel wool or 60 grit sandpaper might be worth trying if you want a scratchy look.

    This video came out at a great time as I’m looking to do some work on a board for my space wolves and was looking for videos to do good ice and water effects on a 24”x36” board

      @hauntswargaming  Před 7 měsíci

      Sounds awesome! I used vallejo's ground texture snow on the bases of my dwarves. I like that stuff a lot but It's too expensive for terrain pieces/boards.

    Looks great. Not too many ice videos that arent for basing. Gives you a good reason for dangerous terrain that makes sense too. Plus no resin is good. For those of us with limited resources and space this is a great option.

    • @hauntswargaming
      @hauntswargaming  Před 7 měsíci

      Yea, they stack well so shouldn't take up too much storage space.
      I've had bad experiences with Using UV resin for stuff like this. Two part resin might work, but I think it's too much of a hassle for most people.

    I prefer the unsanded, clear ice look.
    I wonder if clear silicone adhesive/caulk would work for fixing the plexi in place.
    If I were to build these, I think I would go with just a touch of now on the edges, and leave more of the clear ice visible, like the small piece at 9:13. It seems a shame to cover up all of the work that went into the pretty blue paint and clear ice.
    Great project! This battle mat and terrain would go well with my blue "Ice Demons of War" army.

    • @hauntswargaming
      @hauntswargaming  Před 7 měsíci

      For me sanding helps with the glare from the studio lights but for most people that's not an issue. I think clear caulking would probably work pretty well. I'm not sure how long it would take to dry/cure.
      Thanks for the comment :)

      @@hauntswargaming i´ll bet, I especially liked the plexiglas approach for the ice. I have done this in the past but with a plastic blister pack. This looks a lot more realistic 👍

      @hauntswargaming  Před 7 měsíci +1

  • @powersave2
    @powersave2 Před 7 měsíci

    In place of plexiglass I've used "clear binding covers" &/Or Clear packaging plastic. Results in thinner ice, and light weight.
    Not sure if those cool fractal patterns would still show up, but you can still sand these for the frosty effect.

    • @hauntswargaming
      @hauntswargaming  Před 7 měsíci +1

    That clear Gorilla glue activates with water and gives you a much better bond when using it with just about everything when moisture can't get through to the glue to cure.

    • @hauntswargaming
      @hauntswargaming  Před 7 měsíci

      🤔That hasn't been my experience with this particular glue. It's not like clear school glue. I use this to join resin together. Never had issues with it curing.

      @hauntswargaming  Před 7 měsíci

      @@tmilker it does say to lightly dampen one surface. That doesn't activate it though in my experience.

    • @tmilker
      @tmilker Před 7 měsíci

      @@hauntswargaming Maybe "activate" was too strong of a word but the glue works through the humidity in the air regardless(much like how silicone caulking cures). When you squish the glue between two things that don't "breathe" it takes a lot longer to cure because the outer edge cures quickly and then seals off the glue from more air and thus moisture. Sure, it will eventually cure but the water helps a lot for bonding stuff like plastic or closed cell foam.
