Got the call from my AD to pick up my Pelagos 39 - was waiting to get the bracelet sized up and saw this Seiko. Asked to try it on and absolutely loved the looks and fit. The AD gave me a £200 gift card for the Pelagos 39 purchase so I used it to buy the Seiko. I walked out with 2 amazing watches 😅✌️

Finally came back in stock today (Panda) at Sakura- pulled the trigger- been looking for a "nice" quartz grab and go as opposed to my beloved casio bang around beaters. Versatile, classic, with some history and a fun fidget factor lol. Love the size also. Great review and happy new year!

I use this watch with a black rubber strap as my work/everyday watch and really like the way it looks & feels on the wrist. Looks and size 10/10 for me. What I would have wanted is for that 3 o clock dial to have been adjusteble by its own to function as an GMT and the watch would be perfect.
Yeah the sub dials are a bit lacking in my book. On the rubber strap eh? That sounds nice!
Great review Steve! I agree with you on all points. I got the blue variant with the red accents. It rides beautifully on my 7.5” wrist & is one of my new favorites in my collection. A great grab n’ go!
The blue variant was my next choice! Reminds me of something Captain Falcon would wear in F-Zero (sorry if that reference went over your head).

Great review/impression of the watch. We have the same wrist size, and I find it too small on mine and yours, but of course, this is just a personal preference .Will get it for my wife for sure and I must admit I am tempted of getting the NIght Vision version of this watch even with the size issue. Such a cool design, better than the newer ones, for me anyway

This is not a homage I believe. Seiko has numerous chronograph designs in their repertoire dating back from maybe even earlier than Rolex. This is just another one of them. A history of Seiko chronographs would be nice to dig into.
Definitely a possibility. My definition of "homage" is not a replica with a swapped logo like most people claim however.
Exactly! It’s funny how “watch people” don’t seem to know that Seiko has more history and is an older company than Rolex.
Rolex marketing did a great job. But I will take a Grand Seiko over any Rolex, any day. They are just simply better built.

I own the black one and planning to get the white one. Because you can't beat that price. Let's be honest here, if you elevate the quality of the bracelet, the watch itself wouldn't be 680 USD anymore but 1K. I find it to be perfectly fine, you get what you pay for. Quality watch and I really love it.

If you want me to be honest with myself, there's no way, in any parallel universe, that this watch could be $1,000 USD simply because of a better bracelet. Not with a quartz V192 solar movement at least. Also the case finishing is priced perfectly appropriately already.

I've got one. The size is great for my wrist. The panda face under the sapphire gives a real quality look and makes the watch look far more expensive than it actually is.

Bought it purely on looks and dimensions...execution is pretty good...I like my sarb 035 better and even my khaki auto 38mm. This watch is fun and practical...a great add to ones collection

What I love about this is the size! It's hard to get a decent budget chronograph under 40mm. I have a 6.5" wrist so other chronographs just look too big on me. I would buy this if it were $500 instead of $675.
Do you know other alternatives like this? I've just seen some micro-brands that use the VK6x movements and pretty much have the same sundials.
Possibly a Dan Henry would come close but I haven't done much research on alternatives. Thanks for watching!

There are lots of watched with such basic design, never understood why many refer or think it is Rolex Daytona design! Other than that if for this price it was mechanical with bit better bracelet, maybe even little costlier, I would have bought one, but considering it is quartz, I'll pass, already have couple quartz from Seiko including the iconic Bullhead. Agree with your points on shortcomings.
I think the panda dial with the black bezel and that bracelet are what make it similar enough to compare.

It’s a fun watch and makes you feel like a kid. I think it doesn’t try to be too serious, it’s just a nice cool watch.

I got this on racing strap with white thread and it looks amazing. I agree the watch might not be on top tier of the collection but man it looks great on the wrist! It has those goldilock dimensions and has the classic case shape of the 63mas. Most of the time I go for the running Automatics in the box first but this always makes me stop for a moment and think about letting the autos run out of juice. 😄

The rattling flimsy loose feel in the bracelet is a homage to the pre-ceramic Rolex Sub LOL. Nice watch. Great review!

This watch has far better proportions than the Daytona. It is one of those "accidents" in design, which (I am sure) even the designers didn't expect to be so perfect.
Daytona is not really a "Panda" nowadays. There is not much black left in the dial. The real Panda was not a Rolex creation. It was a joint creation of Heuer, Hamilton and Breitling.
Even the sloping outer edge of the bezel gives the Seiko a character that Daytona lacks.
It is unfair to call this watch a Rolex homage. I would call it a modern re-interpretation of a common 1960s chronograph design.
I will say the bracelet on this watch hides scratches way better than the prx or the lunar pilot🤷🏻♂️
The brushing along with the curvature of the links definitely helps hide those hairline scratches!
@@stevepapa I mean I guess I definitely understand ppls issues with the finishing on the bracelet not matching up with the case but aside from that I don’t get why the bracelet gets so much hate. Honestly this model with the bezel from the updated model would be perfect
Nope, not a homage. Seiko have been creating such designs way back and they have every righy to create another watch with this dial and variant. Not a homage that tryin to mimic another watch brand.
It is not a Rolex Daytona at all. It is different and better
