Eloise has every right to be upset with Pen right now, HOWEVER she needs to realize the danger she put herself and her family through trying to catch LW. She was a child playing adult and it nearly costed her prison and her family's reputation. What Pen wrote hurt, but i was that or being an even worse friend and letting Eloise take the fall for her gossiping. I'd rather be petty and mad but free than rotting in a cell.
hell yes i totallly agree Eloise could of ruined herself and her family her sisters wouldnt be able to have future possibly she was selfish as hell because she doesn't listen to Penelope . it was always going to come out in a worse way gossip fades but ruin was forever . Eloise has family that loves and supports her pen has none of that . being feminist is good but Eloise puts down other women's dreams just because they are not her ideas. pen made sure the blame was firmly of Eloise and the queen no longer suspected her.
I just *KNOW* Eloise would’ve been just as mad if Pen did nothing and she learned Pen was LW. She would’ve but blame on Penelope for “not using her status” (which she wanted in S1) to help out her “best friend”, or something along those lines. I think she’s got to understand that Pen heads a *gossip column*, not an opinion piece-it wasn’t personal, but saving her from worse fates.

Love her personality. But she isn't much of a friend. All her conversations with Pen have been about her, her thoughts, beliefs, opinions. While she fought to stay on the fringes or rather outside the society she never noticed her " bestfriend" on the fringes. Even after finding out who whistledown is she never pauses to think why. Simply begins to accuse, belittle & judge her
Neither is Penelope. Let’s say you can excuse her attacking Eloise bc she had to save her from the Queen. What about Daphne even Anthony? That’s Eloise family. If I found out a friend had written the very slander that upset my whole family, I wouldn’t hang around that person ever again. Loyalty means something. Also, it’s not like Pen shares. I’d argue that Penelope purposefully doesn’t share her inner thoughts or beliefs with anyone: her family, Colin, Eloise, to better let herself be whistledown. (Not judging her for it but it does make sense. She shared with Eloise for two minutes and she quickly deduced lady whistledown was her.)

Yeah, unless she sat me down and fully explained EVERYTHING to me, I don't know if I could consider seeing my bestie the same way ever again...
But still, I do feel for Pen. There are moments in the show where she looks like she wants to tell Eloise, or looks relieved when she thinks Eloise has figured it out and isn't mad - but to be honest I think she should have told El before things spiralled like they did. Then again, Pen warned Eloise about going to see Theo many times and Eloise ALWAYS waved Pen off as though she (Penelope) was too stupid to understand.

If eloise wouldn’t have been so selfish this whole time and take one second to listen what pen actually has to say, she would have figured out wayy sooner. All the talks they had were only about her so I kinda get why she didn’t tell her, it was a quite one sided friendship

I love Eloise, she's a rebel and 1 of my favorite character but last season showed just how much a disparity there was between the balance within hers and Penelope's relation. Like she never allowed Penn a word in edgewise, she flip-flopped her opinion on whistledown the moment she got bored with the gossip, she was just fickle and self centered throughout the whole season. If opinions or ideas didnt measure up to her level then they werent worthy of her attention. She never once acknowledged or empathize with the fact that for some women, this is their reality and it was all their lives would measure up to. She just kept focusing on her perspective that SHE was more and meant to do more, rather than allow a thought for the women who actually didnt have those options or had to fight tooth and nail to seize those opportunities (like madame delacroix). Eloise is the type of person who's all talk and actually doesnt have a clue how to go about accomplishing the grandiose ideas she has. But is judgemental of another woman who's making her own mark in an lesser or unconventional way. She's never acknowledged that Penn is actually more disenfranchised than she is. Yes women r all relegated to nothing more than property and baby making machines, but at least for her as bridgerton, her family wouldnt force her to marry if it would make her miserable and as a brigerton she has far more options than Penn. Everything she complains about is 10x worse for Penn, but she's never seen past her own worries to someone else's. Penn found a way to take her own future in her hands, and she doesnt even acknowledge that Penn was tied down by the same restraints that she was and actually even worse coz she was bullied by the ton.
Eloise (reminder, the character, not the actress) doesn’t have courage. She’s been exactly the kind of person she claims to not like. She doesn’t expect much of anything from women around her - internalized sexism much El? She’s a nosy busybody and couldn’t leave well enough alone after being warned several times. She never really cared about what Pen was interested in. She just assumed Pen felt the same as her, and it was made clear when she realized Pen loved the fluff of the Ton during the season. The dancing, the dresses (I meaaaannnnnn come one, the dresses are gorgeous; sign me up). And jealous to boot that SHE wasn’t the one making money from writing.
This season is about to be so spicy in all the right ways and I am here for it

i think for the most part, Penelope and Eloise wouldn't get along but then the friendship they have is just overly too strong, Eloise still cares for Penelope even though she is still angry at her.
everyone hates Eloise meanwhile I love her and absolutely think Pen in in the wrong for literally taking away something so important to eloise. Eloise was belittled for caring about womens rights, workers rights, and talking with normal people. Pen took that away from her and people want to say that Eloise has no reason to be upset. I am not saying that Eloise is without fault, however saying Pen is without fault is delusional.
That’s what makes it such an interesting dilemma tho because they are both at fault and are both incredibly immature for saying the things they said and doing what they did, I am looking forward to seeing them both grow up a bit more and regain their platonic powerhouse friendship once again but even stronger this time

I think Eliose is very typical middle child, often left to her own devices and goes against the grain yet has very sensitive emotions and can react louder than others might. Also they are still young and their minds being formed, Eliose has come to the sudden realisation her very study and predictable life isn't that and the complete flip has left her unsure which is totally alien so the poor girl is having a huge confidence crisis. While yes I think she was a bit ignorant to Penelopes difficulties she has only ever grown up knowing one thing so might not be able to see. I'd love for her to pour her heart out to Penelope and have a moment of true vulnerability for Penelope to then remind Eliose of who she is and not to doubt herself

Everyone is hating on Eloise and poor Penelope. We don't know where this is going until the show returns. Yes, it looks like Eloise is the major bad girl this season. We don't know full details yet. I just noticed the hate on Elose, like damn Penelope, isn't perfect either. Yes, Eloise might be a little focused on herself, but she protected Penelope from being captured by the Queen's private detective. Penelope might have been protecting Elosie from the Queen but at the same time writing about her best friend's personal secret to protect her, no Penelope is protecting herself. I get why, but not right either. Neither is wrong or right in that situation. Both have a right to be mad at each other, without watching this season, yet I can't go 100 percent against Elosie while also I can't root 100 percent for Penelope either.

EXACTLY, THANK YOU!!! If it weren’t for that scene at the end of season 2 with Colin being a jackass and insulting her to a crowd, I would’ve left the season on Eloise’s side. I love Pen and Polin, but I hope to see her develop and seek Eloise’s forgiveness this season as well. Hopefully that happens out of mutual respect for each other instead of pity for Pen, though 😭

Penelope trusted the modiste over her own best friend, so Eloise is being friendly with Cressida probably out of payback. We see how nosey Eloise is, so she might be trying to befriend Cressida for a reason. I just don't think Eloise is 100% the enemy. They both have flaws and will probably work them out. Trailers also like to mislead viewers, like omg this is happening, no wait surprise. That's what causes people to be more interested.

For me, I like how Eloise is written, I just don’t like her much as a person but mainly for only one reason. Yes, Eloise does have a right to be angry and distrusting Penelope, I fully agree. Where my sympathy for Eloise stops and waits for, is if Eloise will hold herself accountable for her own actions of risking herself and her family. If Penelope didn’t do what she did, where would Eloise and her family be right now? They’d be at equally bad standing if not much worse.
Again, Eloise is a well and realistically written character, I’m all for a girl seeking and wanting more for herself and women who don’t desire marriage as a success/fulfilling life. I just don’t like the idea of her putting full blame on Penelope when it was her own actions and her not considering the amount of risk that placed her deep into trouble at the start even if it wasn’t the trigger of all the damage after.
I am very curious of whether or not Eloise will mature, not in the sense of her groveling to Penelope for forgiveness but more like- if she’ll gain a more sly and cautionary behavior of achieving what she’s always wanted for herself. That she won’t fling herself at every chance of “freedom” she sees but more or less fight for it in a smarter fashion. If that makes sense.

Just had her world flipped by finding out her closest and only friend not only kept a secret but something that effects her entire family. Penelope wrote about her family frequently and finding out her one confidant was seemingly using her for info would have hurt. Penelope wasn't using Eliose for information but I think else saw it thst way and is doubting the honesty of their friendship

I love Pen to bits, but Eloise isn't wrong. Pen used anonymity to shit on people and ruin lives in the progress. That is not something to be proud of, when she could have used her power and influence to further women's rights. Pen on the other hand is right that Eloise just talks big and never actually dares to really defy her family expectations. I'm sure they will come to understand each other's perspective this season.

If you think about it, what Penelope has done is both amazing and hateful. Penelope is like the ones on facebook, spouting truths and rumors - ruining the lives of innocents and the guilty. Meanwhile, Eloise is an immature, naive, and self-righteous girl - forced to fit in one mold and another. Either by the ton or her mother. Got judged because of her opinion. Her brother and sister almost ruined. Her family almost vilified and sentenced to treason because they WILL be labeled as treasonous for such thoughts against the crown.
Whistledown is a powerful personna. One of the things Penolope forgot is that power comes with responsibility.
I love how their interaction mirrors Elizabeth and Charlotte's friendship in Pride and Prejudice. The "oh gosh I don't want to be a stifled wife, never, not for me!" girl, meet the "if being a stifled wife can open doors that give me powers to wield, so be it" girl. It's the ideal vs being practical conundrum that I love to see so much!
I love Eloise and Benedict. I hope they are both strongly portrayed on every season.
personally, I am team eloise. Aside from the fact that pen betrayed their friendship (in my opinion), she could have just told eloise the truth. And they would have decided together what to write to compromise her without “destroying” her reputation. This is a modern series. In real life, she would no longer be able to appear in public. And we know very well that pen also did it to avoid being discovered. Let's remember that they are nevertheless both very young and that one has more luck in terms of her family.
Theo could literally been killed for talking to a upper class lady . Eloise could of ruined her entire family and pen was protecting Eloise from that happening gossip fades but ruin is forever her reputation is fixed in the last episode of season two and season three. besides Eloise is a terrible friend to Penelope and doesn't listen to what she has to say

Doesn’t have to be the centre of her plot because Eloise’s story isnt marriage focused but would be fun if they explored it as a sub plot either in season 3 or when they make her the main characyer

Eloise could of ruined herself and her family her sisters wouldnt be able to have future possibly she was selfish as hell because she doesn't listen to Penelope . it was always going to come out in a worse way gossip fades but ruin was forever . Eloise has family that loves and supports her pen has none of that . being feminist is good but Eloise puts down other women's dreams just because they are not her ideas. pen made sure the blame was firmly of Eloise and the queen no longer suspected her.
She wasn't saying Eloise needed to be the same as her just that Eloise was all talk and never did anything to enact her beliefs, that is all.
Pen tried to take control of her life even if she went about it the wrong way, its been proven numerous times on the show already when Pen tries to talk to someone or warn them they never listen, she's just a wallflower. One may not be able to respect the process but they can respect her hustle, she is a genius in her own right.

And what Penelope is able to do is impressive, I just don’t think the show is framing what she’s doing properly. I think I’m just wary that the show is seemingly going to punish Eloise and side with Penelope when they are both at fault in some way.

Okk so everyone hates Eloise but guys if i remember correctly....Eloise liked a guy after such a long time and Penelope ruined it for her. I mean i will be mad if my best friend has done this to me behind my back.

I get that but this isn't any boy. She put him, a lowerclass boy, in great danger by making him openly interact with her, a high class lady.
Eloise also went unchaperoned to meet him, risking her and her family's reputation, as well as her younger sisters' marriage prospects.
She could have ruined them all and maybe even got Theo killed.

@@shailja_chandel I don't think there's anyone out there who doesn't realize Pen is flawed? Eloise just proved herself to be a dislikeable character. Both girls we can understand but give more grace to Pen because we've seen her ups and downs of her trying to change and give it up but failing we knew where she's at so feel more for her compared to Eloise who has it easier, her dilemmas smaller in comparison and consistently was barely a friend to Pen. Even if Pen was a mess she was still a friend to Eloise and her family, having helped Daphne before even in the previous season. Pen isn't just someone you can kick to the curb and label a terrible person. Her character and contributions are more complex than that.
We've seen Pen continuously get ignored so the confrontation with Eloise just helped many make up their minds on whether or not they liked Eloise because some didn't care for her before as she was already annoying at times.

Oh please Eloise is just as horrible, they had a one-sided friendship, one in that even in the friendship Penelope was still invisible and always having to listen to her.
Sadly she decided to bank off that information but if Eloise had listened to her and maybe even tried to help her figure out a way to take control of their situation maybe they could have started their own newspaper together or formed their own printing company or something. (Keep in mind Pen's family's finances.) If this whole time I was complaining about my mundane social problems while I had a friend that was on the verge of becoming homeless and did nothing to help I would feel like a shit friend.

I don't know why people support Pen so much. Her being in pain gave her no right to slander and cause pain to others. She never cared how her words hurt others. She stayed safe in her cocoon, but if she were so rightful she would've penned about her love for Colin. Which she didn't coz she knew no one cared n yet she gossiped about everyone's private lives.
I hate what she did to Marina. She stole away her one chance at happiness, where she could have been happy with Colin, who loved her dearly, only because she was jealous.
