    Had to look it up. The Paradigm 7 iron is 29 degrees vs the Head at 30. I was wondering why you were getting a few yards longer with it. By the numbers, I would say the Head iron did better in the important departments, e.g. back spin and decent angle. Fun video.

    Roll out is a massive factor not talked about much. Too much roll out causes you to run into trouble and overshoot the target. Puts you in the rough, ponds, bunkers and over the back on greens. The cheaper clubs with the steeper descent could be dialed in better with practice.

  • @mariofonseca9267
    @mariofonseca9267 Před 9 měsíci +4

    Gabe, The Head takes it in my opinion....better descent angle, and that would be critical to stopping the ball on the green; and this was a 7 iron...can you imagine the lower clubs? Great experiment and video!!

    • @obxarms7685
      @obxarms7685 Před 5 měsíci +2

      I actually had to look hard for these Head irons after watching this match-up. Finally found them in mint condition on Ebay and took them to the range. I know everyone says this about "their new clubs" but I was SHOCKED by how well I hit them. Very forgiving, great feel, sound and even distance. I really want to blame it on the weather or luck but these are the best feeling Irons I have ever used in terms of accuracy. lol Head as a company is known for high end Tennis and Ski equipment for years. I guess they hired some talented engineers to make their first foray into golf clubs and hit the mark . Looks like they did ZERO marketing however... Their Putters are beautifully CNC machined and designed as well. They are still available at the Head BY Powerbilt site but the Iron sets 6-PW are sold out at 499.00.

  • @mattwhitt6154
    @mattwhitt6154 Před 9 měsíci +2

    Pretty eye opening really that there wasn’t a ton of difference between them. Me personally the cheap set is the better option due to more spin and greater decent angle to help hold greens!!!

  • @commonman317
    @commonman317 Před 9 měsíci +4

    Both those clubs new? I didn't think people were allowed to hit the new clubs, just the used ones. This was a really interesting contrast with inexpensive vs. real expensive. Yet, the performance contrast wasn't too different. That was surprising.

    an interesting fun video. It seems likely the head brand was a moderate or softer R flex shaft since it has no markings, likely meaning the same shaft does not come in a stiff option. The Callaway was a stiff, but then again, shaft flexes between models and companies have no standard. The callaway likely stiffer, one degree loft less as stated, and then perhaps not mentioned, was the length of each club as again there is no standard across the industry. Seems you nailed it in this video. PS folks, gun metal irons are something that comes around about every 10 years, as does the push for overlength drivers..... They look pretty but as mentioned, usually seems to not age well in looks. Great video, thanks!

    beyond what was talked about in the video, theres a lot of other factors that probably go into the pricing. The Paradyms probably have a better feel on good shots (although ive never hit either, so cant say) and they are more durable. the only major differences were the paradym had lower spin and further distance stats wise, so I would at least hope theres a lot more to it than that

    Looking for the heads right now, can't seem to find them anywhere and they are sold out on the website. I think you got lucky with the Heads. They were on sale and are probably one of those cases were the design on that model was just better than brand expectation and marketing. Just found out that they were designed in Austria by Head Sport and manufactured by Powerbilt to Head specifications. They were rolled out in the middle of Covid which explains the marketing failure.

    Great review Gabe. I do think that this value/quality issue probably is more noticeable to high handicap golfers rather than those that can play decent. I am sure a pro could pretty much hit any clubs and score par. Rick Shiels has a ex pro friend called James Robinson and he has played with Slazenger clubs and still made under par. James not Rick as that wouldn’t happen 😊. Keep up the great work and so hope you get more subscribers as you deserve it with the content you put out.

    Looking back at my golf over the years, I now realize that changing equipment to improve wasn't the answer. I went from total beginner to a 12 handicap, with a set of Donnay pin-seeker's in under 3 years, but it's taken a further 25 years (and many changes of clubs later, to reach a 9 handicap, so even if I'm being generous, the modern equipment only accounts for a 3 stroke gain.

    In many ways this is music to the ears of the DTC, brands such as Takomo and Caley golf. More and more people will utilise DTC brands due simply to cost factors. Takomo are releasing a driving iron here in the UK, tomorrow at l believe a cost of £119.00. That a saving of £100.00 on most driving irons. At that price it's a no-brainer people will buy it. I had a shot of the paradym irons a few months back, Gabe. Great looking and feeling club, but l can't stand that name 😎. You need a shave mate 😉. Keep up the good work.

  • @PWL1371
    @PWL1371 Před 9 měsíci

    I'd pick the cheap clubs in this head-to-head battle. First the descent angle, even being a little less than desired it's still better. Second the back spin. That equals stopping power. Knowing your club and getting it to stop where you want is key later. Third is price. You are not gaining a lot for the money. Not all 7 irons are created equal. Typically, a 7 iron should have a back spin around 7 thousand back spin. The Callaway has the numbers of a 5 iron. With that said I know some need the distance and there swing speed is lower than others. If you need it, then no harm no foul. If you have a faster swing speed, you'd be 180-200 with a 7 iron and wouldn't have much on a short game. Personally, I use a 34-degree 7 iron with a back spin of 6500-7000 and a decent angle of 45-50 degrees. Distance is okay at 165-170. At over 50 years of age, it works, and my game has improved. Great video. Good to see you willing to put these two clubs against each other!!

I regret getting the new ones at $1400 because there is absolutely no difference between the two. No more forgiving nor more distance. Money could have been spent on other things. It’s a scam on what they’re doing nowadays

  • @mpkelley20
    @mpkelley20 Před 9 měsíci

    Normally I’d say that the lower spin isn’t an issue as those lower spin irons tend to launch higher but not seeing that in your results. The spin numbers are even low for a 6 iron (I know you are hitting a 7 here but the lofts are more like 6 iron).
    Great video though. Shows it’s about the swing 90% of the time. I think where people should spend more is if it is about feel and look as that can be a psychological thing on the course. Holding a club you can’t stand how it feels or looks will result in bad shots. At least for me. Lol.

    The way that their software displays dispersion is pretty whacky. To say that the average miss was 3 yards is really misleading. The HEAD missed by roughly 9 yards per shot, some left and some right. The Cally missed by closer to 6 yards per shot, again some left, some right. The way the PGA SS software calculates the number is that you could miss one shot 30 yards left and one shot 30 yards right and the amount offline would average out to zero. You should bring up the shot dispersion rings on the screen. I know they have that feature.

    Paradyms are not game improvement. Paradym x is the game improvement. Plus they are forged with a speed frame design not cavity backed clubs.

    Too bad you don't have the budget for cheap off the shelf vs expensive off the shelf vs custom fit. I'd love to see the results of that one.

    So basically 7 yard difference (total yds on average) which ends up being about a $170 per yard that you’re paying for the Callaway irons. That doesn’t make any financial sense whatsoever. 😂

    I wonder what someone that would actually use these clubs, ie a relatively new golfer would do with the comparison. You may be a mere mortal but you are also a single digit handicapper and your bad strikes probably are better than a lot of people's good ones.
    If you know someone that is one or two years into the game and looking to upgrade that might be a good person to look at to test this out. If the Heads are almost as or just as good as the 1400 Callaways then they could save some serious money and use that money later to get more of a player's style club later on as their game continues to improve. I personally would never recommend a club that expensive to someone still developing their game.
    Just an idea.

    Shots looked way better and easier to get there with the expensive club, saying that, an FNG golfer or on a low budget, grab the Head Clubs, go learn, save money and step up one day.

    You could do 100 videos like this, but the brand snobs would still find a reason to spend the $1200 extra bucks. Makes them feel better on the first tee that people think they are a decent player because they spent all that money. Of course then the others figure out they suck after playing a few holes.

    You are looking at those offline numbers incorrectly and its hurting me.
    Your saying the head is more accurate and that's just not true.
    That's said, I really like this video, I agree that the difference is marginal and people would be better off investing in lessons or taking trips to other courses or even spoling the wife lol.
    We are all suckkers though, and I love my JPX 923 tour irons 😂
