Summary
In today's video, I'm actually going to show you this really cool Kindle Create tutorial and show you how to make Kindle interactive books that include both audio and video. Let's jump in right now. Now, before we jump in, if you are looking for an ongoing supply of essential news, must-have resources, and 100%, three reports in the self-publishing and marketing niche. Hey, that's too easy. All you have to do is subscribe to the channel and of course, hit the little bell notification and you will not ever miss out again. Let's jump in right now. Now here's a little known fact with Amazon's software called Kindle create. You can design and publish really high-quality Kindle books that include some very, very cool features that make them highly interactive, Including putting in video and audio directly embedded within your book. In fact, the first time I sort of stumbled on this and did this is with my book real fast writing here, and there is actually a whole subsection of Kindle that they call Kindle interactive additions. And that's what I'm going to show you how to create in today's video, how to make one of these Kindle interactive additions for your book. And the cool thing is, is that you could do so much more with these kinds of books, whether you're a children's books, author, whether you're doing how to type of material, or like we did with this book, the PAC man fever book. This I, I did actually for a, a couple of friends of mine who, who wrote the hit song Pac-Man fever. And we just recently had the 40th anniversary of Pac-Man. So he came out with this book, but the cool thing is, is that this book has lots of audio.
Obviously, it actually has the entire album in it. And what makes all this possible is this free software that you can get directly from Amazon it's called Kindle. Create. Now make sure to leave the link in the description to where you can go download this, but this is where you go download it. It's available for both PC and for max and personally, I'm on a PC right now. So let me crack this open and show you how to use this really, really cool software to create these interactive books. Okay. So here is the software we're going to come up here and we're going to click create new and then choose. And now you have two options. You've got the reflowable and the print replica for the types of books that we want to make. We're going to choose the print replica. Now, the thing about the print replica type of book is that you must have a fixed layout book or the layout must be exactly the way you want it.
Okay? It does not, reflow it, it shows exactly the way you design it, which means that with this particular type of book, you need a PDF file. So I've chosen that print replica and then choose PDF. And this is what we're actually going to be doing. We're going to be showing you how to put in both video and audio, and then also these really cool image popups that you could do, and also how to include web links, which is another really cool feature. So let's go ahead and choose the file and okay, so we're going to go over here and we're going to choose this one right here that says Kindle, create video demo PDF. Again, it's a PDF. That's what we need. So what I've done is create this basic demo document, print, replica, fix layout demo document, and here's what we're going to do.
We're, let's actually kind of zoom in a little bit more here so we can see it a little bit better. There we go. Okay. So the here's what we're going to do. We're going to first add video audio and to do that. We're going to come up right over here to where it says, insert, click it, and then movie from file.

Thanks so much, Daniel ..you are a blessing to me. Namaste
You are so welcome
Great tips, thank you very much
Thanks so much for your kind words. You are most welcome!
Daniel excellent update for Kindle interactive e-books! DW
Glad you enjoyed it Thanks for you comment!
Why are you the only person doing a video on this? Its important to some of us who need to use video in the book.
Thanks so much. Appreciate your feedback.
I love it! I see all kinds of fun applications for my books. I wonder if I can have two versions of the ebook on Amazon, though: the regular ebook as well as the enhanced one?
Thanks for your kind words. The answer is YES you can have a Kindle Interactive Edition as well a standard Kindle edition of your book both live on Amazon..
FInally - Finally - Finally! How to keep a hyperlink active after I have uploaded the book. I have been searching for this answer for weeks! Thank you, Daniel.
Glad it helped! Thanks so much for your comment. And I invite you to subscribe to the channel if you have not already.
@@DanielHall, I assume the red/orange underlines (hyperlinks) will not be visible on the final upload, as they are now in the preview?

Thanks so much for your kind words. Lots more great stuff coming. Stayed tuned!
I created a audio interactive book with one of my children's ebooks. I thought it was going to be awesome that you could just tap the little speaker icon and have the page narrated using my audio files. What I don't like is when you tap the speaker icon a big ugly play box pops up on top of the page. Pretty much ruins the experience of having the book narrated to you. I don't know why they can't just have the little icon turn from a speaker into an arrow when it's playing the file rather than popping up a big control box in the center of the page.
I totally understand your frustration. It can be annoying when the interface interferes with the user experience.
Hello Daniel. This is a great tutorial. My manuscript is a textbook in which I would like to include test questions at the end of each section. I would like to provide space (underlined area? space only area?) in which "students" may enter (interactively) responses to those questions. Additionally, I plan to provide an answer key for all of the individual sections at the end of the manuscript.
This specific task was not addressed in this tutorial but do you have a specific tutorial I can access that might address this specific issue? Thanks so much. Rosemary
Hi Rosemary, thank you so much for your kind words! I'm thrilled to hear that you found the tutorial useful. While I don't have a specific tutorial on this topic, I can definitely look into creating one in the future. In the meantime, I recommend exploring software tools like Adobe InDesign or Microsoft Word with form fields to achieve the interactive response spaces and answer key in your textbook. Best of luck with your manuscript!
great
Thanks much!
Thank you Daniel for making this helpful video. When using Sqribble for Kindle books, what format should I download the book in? Let’s say it’s a PDF format, can I use the Kindle Create application at this point to convert the PDF into the acceptable Kindle format?
Thanks for your question. You can download in .epub .mobi .pdf and other as described on the Kindle page. And yes you can convert the PDF into and acceptable Kindle format using Kindle Create it just won't be "reflowable" - hope this helps.
Hi Daniel, very informative and helpful video. My question is, Where did you get the Kindle Create Print Replica/Fixed Layout Demo PDF?
Thanks for your question. You make the PDF in whatever program you can. I created the demo in MS Word but you can use any other program like InDesign or Illustrator. Etc. Hope this helps and thanks for subscribing.
Thank you!
You covered a lot of ground in a short time frame. I like your succinct style. On the delivery fees, how can you keep them low if you have a lot of pictures in a book like a children's book that is mostly pictures? Even at 200 dpi it gets pretty big.
Thanks so much Sue for your kind words. You minimize the number of images you use. If you can use black and white images or line drawings without color this will help. But its a balancing act.
Hello Daniel, is there any way that during the reading the reader is given to choose part of the story and he can choose an option and the book jumps to the page where the chosen story continues?
Yes... but you'd have to code it that way.
Hi! Thank you for your video! This is exactly what I was looking for. One question. I didn't understand this of "paying for delivery" depending on the file size. Is it for royalty? I am working on a ebook for Spanish students. It would have different readings for practice, and I want to add audios for doing a sort of read along. So, I will need a different audio file per reading. These audios are mine. Why would I have to pay? Thank you very much!
Thanks for you question no the deliver fee from amazon depends on the size of you file. The larger your file the less you will earn in royalty. The fee you are paying is based on the file size.
Thanks for the training, Daniel. However, way too many ad interruptions.
Thanks for your comment and feedback.
Is that scribble software you advertise also useful for this. If so how? I have a narrated children's book I want to publish and I would love to have to not have to learn indesign
Thanks for this great question. I would not recommend Sqribble for a set up of a children's book. I would find someone on Fiverr to do that experienced in kid book set up. Hope this helps.
Hello, thank you so much for your video! I didn't see it exactly; but how does an audio file "look" in the book? is it just a play button that you press and that I place where I want it in the layout?
I am creating a "singing book" where I will need to have voice samples (30 seconds max) attached to an image. Do you know if this is possible this way that your video shows or should I aim to make it another format?
Thanks in advance :)
Audio files in a book typically appear as a play button that readers can press to listen. You can place them wherever you want in the layout.
Ok 👌 thanks so much for your answer 🙏🏻✨
Amazons website it say KDP doesn't support Interactive books so am I correct in understanding that Kindle interactive books that include video, audio and links is for kindle devices only?
It doesn't support interactivity such as buttons, animations and multistate objects. It supports what you can add directly in Kindle Create. They will play the same on phone, tablet and kindle but the recent kindle, not the black and white kindle.
Yes, that's correct. Kindle interactive books with video, audio, and links are designed for Kindle devices.
But kindle create won't work with your document if you have endnotes :(
Thanks for your comment. Yes there certainly are some drawbacks to the software but still worth using DIY. If you must use endnotes I just getting some one on Fiverr to do you a version.
Brilliant, not techie and trying to follow.
Thanks for your kind words. Appreciate you subscribing to the channel.
Man you have great content but its so stressful to watch you because your video and audio are NEVER synched!.. never 😔 This is most probably why your view ratio is way less than your subscriber count. Perhaps find a solution to that out of synch problem
I appreciate your support and will definitely look into fixing the synchronization problem!
