  • In this tutorial I try to explain what KOReader for ebook readers is and why I prefer using it. KOReader runs on almost all Kobo e-readers, Android based e-Readers like the Onyx Boox and Bigme ebook readers, PocketBook e-readers and also on some older Kindle e-readers. I run it on all my e-readers that I use and everything in sync. I use it on my Kobo Clara 2e, Kobo Libra H2O and Onyx Boox Palma. I also has it on my Bigme 751c but I don't use that reader much because it has a color Kaleido 3 screen. I don't like them because they are too dark for reading. You can even install KOReader on a normal Android phone or tablet.

      Going from Kindle to Calibre or going from both? Of course a main benefit of Koreader is downloading wirelessly from Calibre...

      @svartling I've just pre ordered the boox go 10.3 and am revisiting KOreader as an option, does it work with handwritten annotations to make use of the stylus and screen tech ?

    • @svartling

      Koreader is not optimized for stylus use. I don't recommend it for that.

    I love KOReader. It’s all I use now. The stats are awesome and the customization with taps and gestures is amazing. How do you set up the syncing feature?

      @@svartling thanks, I didn’t know I could register on the device and use their server. That’s fantastic!! I always thought we had to have our own server. I set it up to sync between my Libra H2O, Clara, and Pocketbook Touch HD. Works great!!

    Hello there,
    Do you use the screen protector with you your e-readers? Or is this going to reduce the clarity of the screen and makes outside light reflected on the screen? What do you think?
    Thank you, for your videos

    • @svartling
      @svartling  Před měsícem

      No I don’t use screen protectors and I don’t think you should either. As you said the display will then not be as crisp. And it’s quite unnecessary on an e-reader because the displays as plastic and not glass usually.

    Does KOReader integrate with Calibre? I have a Calibre library on my PC and because of this I am leaning towards Kobo rather than Kindle, looking at the BW at present. EDIT: Just seen this from 10mins - great, thanks!

    Hi Stefan, it’s been a while that I have some questions about koreader. I have hesitated to ask but now I really have to:
    If I want to install nickelclock, do I have to install koreader first?

    • @svartling
      @svartling  Před měsícem +1

      By installing KOReader you get nickel menu automatically. There is other way to install nickel menu without KOReader but I have never tried that.

    Does Koreader come with ability to look up words in dictionary, or Wikipedia? Thanks I am considering installing on my 3 devices to keep my reading synched. I did not know it did that until your video. I have a Kobo, Kindle and Pocketbook.

    • @svartling
      @svartling  Před měsícem +2

      Yes i have a whole video about dictionaries. Much better than the original ui. Koreader works great on Kobo and pocketbook but Kindle its harder to install. You need an old Kindle that doesnt run the latest firmwares.

    Hello, can you tell me please, if i do a factory reset to a Kobo, will it clean everything from nickel menu and koreader, no files left? I've installed koreader, and i didn't like it. So i did a factory reset. It's gone, but i want to be sure that there is nothing left, and the os files are untouched

    • @svartling
      @svartling  Před měsícem

      Well both yes and no. The files are restored but the warranty is broken. Kobo will still be able to see that you have installed KOReader on it. But you will personally not notice a difference afterwards.

    I installed koreader but then i suddenly had over 140 books in my kobo library and i was unable to remove them so i did a factory reset of my device, perhaps a bug but i only want my books listed in my books?

    • @svartling
      @svartling  Před měsícem

      As I said in this video. The books are independent of each other so you can’t have the books in the same folder. KOReader needs to have the books in its own folder. So create a folder in the KOReader folder. Then put books there.

    • @jonasamna
      @jonasamna Před měsícem

      Yes , but i ment the original kobo launcher my books folder/shelf was a complete mess with a lot of books that wasn’t mine with over 140 thumbnails of different files that read said it was books

    • @svartling
      @svartling  Před měsícem

      Ok and you haven’t used the same folder in KOReader then? It sounds like the original ui library and the KOReader library got mixed somehow.

    • @svartling
      @svartling  Před měsícem

      @jonasamna KOReader uses a cache folder where it stores thumbnails of the book covers. They show up as books in the normal ui if you have chosen the wrong folder. You see them with your normal books then.

    • @Strravigor
      @Strravigor Před 7 dny

      @@svartling i never had to have a special folder for koreader, one of the good thing with koreader is that you see the hierarchy of your folders and can navigate into it ! What Kobo UI don’t
