Harvest Moon was my late wife's favorite song. I'm still so in love with her and would love to see her dance again.
A very sweet sentiment. I thought of my late-husband watching this video too. May we both get our wish someday and dance with them again 💔❤️
I hope you both get your wish.
Its perfect 💛💚
My late husband and I danced to this song. I hear you.
Time to get close and warm with the one you love great tune
"The Needle and the Damage Done" is another one from Mr. Young that you should hear.
Rockin in the Free World
The guitar is great!❤
Devastating and poignant. Agree
Nope Love and only Love much better....acoustic crap can't compare to electric Neil but then most requesters only listen to top 40 garbage cause they don't have the courage for real music and this is an awful song and album...try Down By the River
I saw Neil sing “Harvest moon” acoustic at Farm Aid in Pittsburgh, DURING the harvest moon, which was right above the stage. It was amazing! ❤
A magical moment...
@@MacDaddyRico it was 20 years ago, but I remember it like it was yesterday! ❤️
Wow!
The kind of memory that lasts a lifetime. Nice. ✌️
Yes it was a great concert 🌛🌝🌜
Man...Neil was never my cup of Tea, But I Can Say I Love this Song! And its Simply Beautiful....Just Makes You Feel Good.
Jay & Amber, you'll love his "Cinnamon Girl", "Hey Hey, My My (Into the Black)"/"My My, Hey Hey (Out of the Blue)" and "Only Love Can Break Your Heart"!!
edit - This is a tribute to his wife Pegi Young, and the two are dancing in a bar in the music video.
Linda Ronstadt provides the backing vocals.
ROCKIN IN THE FREE WORLD
Cinnamon Girl!!! Yes
His now ex wife! Neil sued for divorce in 2014 after 36 years! He hooked up with Daryl Hannah soon after so he writes love songs to her now!
Peggy Young is the bartender. She died of cancer a few years ago after they split up.
Yes, all these!
Harvest Moon was released in 1992 with a lot of the same back up musicians that were on his 1972 Harvest album.
Such a beautiful song, delivered in a spectacular way. The acoustic guitar, piano and banjo goes back to the basics of Neil. And of course, the harmonica. One of his bests. Great reaction. Glad you love Neil, a lot of Canadians do. 🎶🎶🇨🇦🇨🇦
does Buckets of Maple Syrup love from Canada ❤️❤️ 🇨🇦 🇨🇦
My first album by Neil was 'After the Goldrush', I listened to it all night long, hoping to meet him one day, lol, I was 15 yrs. old full of dreams, and that dream did unexpectedly come true 6 yrs. later when my friend who owned a little bar up in the San Mateo mountains ask if I could help because he was short a bartender. It was extremely busy, and this soft spoken guy comes up to the waitress station and starts ordering drinks from me slowly one at a time, lol, I said you need to be quicker than that, it was Neil he smiled and kept ordering slowly, lol.
He's my 2nd favourite Canadian artist behind only Rush🤘✌️🤘🙂
But I'm Scottish🏴 not an actual Canadian.
My mum and dad lived in Galt, Ontario whilst they awaited immigration status in the U.S., and my sister was born in Winnipeg.🇨🇦🍁 That may be why I love The Guess Who, also born in Winnipeg 🤘🇨🇦🤘🍁
I had 6th row at the Beacon Theatre in NY for the Harvest Moon tour, the album wasn’t out yet and I got to see incredible greatness before I knew how great it really was.
@@bkm2797 You're so lucky. He's always been a character.
During the taping of "Tears Are Not Enough", Producer David Foster told him, he was flat and they needed to do another take. Neil's comment "Thats my style". Lol. 👍✌️🎶 🇨🇦
@@JimiBurleigh SNAP we lived in ontario coming from airdrie Scotland my older sister was born in sutton ontario i was born in scotland while mum was on holiday then back to canada and little sister born in rivers manitoba with last sister born in winnipeg we are all back in scotland now.also big rush fan as i lived in richmond hill ontario for 20 years don't know why i just told you all this i guess i am feeling homesick for Canada
I have been a huge fan of Neil Young since I was 14! I’m now 64! He’s a true legend ❤
13, now 65! neil and jackson browne are the music of my life.
Me too,(And CSN&Y)since I was 11. Now I'm 57. Greetings from Chile.
This song is what makes Neil Young a superstar.
Neil is a vibe, before that saying was invented, he was a vibe. 😎✌
I just love it when amber closes her eyes and just absorbs the music. Priceless
I don’t know if you’ll see this comment but I recently found out that Neil Young was in a band with Rick James called the Mynah Birds
Yes sir, back in Buffalo.
This was my first introduction to Neil Young by my father. He passed in 2015, so this song reminds me of him. It'll always have a special place in my heart. Great song about aging and still finding your spouse beautiful. Whoever has your heart will always take your breath away. Years don't change that, neither does death. They'll have your heart until it stops beating.
I feel you.was my dads favorite neil song.hes been gone 2 years now
Ain't that the truth!
Got me bawling again
As mentioned below, “Cinnamon Girl” !!! Love that Neil Young tune😁
One of those voices singing that backup is Linda Ronstadt, yeah, that one. She's not in the video, but credited on the album. if you watch that again you'll see the restaurant changes, the cars change and seemingly we are sent back in time. The dancers are younger, representing the younger pair of lovers, seemingly a younger Neil and Pegi.
His voice is so soothing, when my boys were babies & theyd get crabby, id play this song & dance with them in my arms & theyd calm right down. ❤ Neil Young
I mean, how cool is it to have Linda Ronstadt singing backup on your song
Y'all would enjoy Sugar Mountain. It showcases his softer voice and the message is universal.
I Am A Child was credited to Buffalo Springfield but it's pure Neil Young. That's such an unknown, underrated; terrific song, as well, and one that Jay & Amber would like, too.
“After the Gold Rush” and “Like a Hurricane” are both a must as well
And way better but even more deserving is Down By The River
Over the past few years this has become my favorite Neil Young song. I’m pretty sure Linda ronstadt is one of the background singers on this.
Not sure about Linda on this, but Nicolette Larson definitely was one of the backing singers.
Yep, Linda Ronstadt is one of the backing vocalists. At least on the original studio version. I don't think I recognized her in the video, but I'm literally 75% blind so don't take my word on that.🤣🤣 ✌️
Linda, Dolly and Emmy Lou do this on one of their Trio albums.
Also, the guitar hook in this song is basically cribbed from the Everly Brothers' Walk Right Back
@@jayash3539 thought the same
His voice is very natural and he hits his note effortlessly. It's weird to think that this is later in his career -- he's in his late 40s here (it's 1994), yet it's almost 30 years ago...
I recommend "After the Gold Rush."
1994? 30 years ago? Have I been in a Coma or something?
What !!
I’m going to add my voice to those asking for Rocking in the Free World, a true contrast and one of the earliest grunge sounds. ✌️
Yup too many wimps can't handle rock
they have tried Rocking In The Free World, thinking it was Neil Young, but it was a cover version
Neil’s a genius. Another one to check out is Down By The River - loved by air guitarists
i gave myself whiplash once playing air guitar with neil. down by the river, only he can play the same note that many times and make it sound so good! a later, haha, electric song is like a hurricane. years ago at the concord pavillion he did an incredible version. the strings were breaking and he was dragging a broken end over what was left.
Yup but all the same requesters only listen to top 40 wimpy and can't hande great rock
This is one of my all time favorites.
I love this song. It was written for Neil Young's ex-wife, who is dancing with him in this video. Pegi Young has sadly passed from cancer. She was also a musician and artist.
You conveniently left out that he run off with Daryl Hannah in 2013 and brook Pgi's heart, she died of cancer alone. FFF Neil Young. I've supported him since 1970 but now for me he has shown himself to be a selfish bastard
@@lawreence13 Sorry I left that part out. I agree he is a selfish bastard. He wrote that song for Pegi yet tastelessly sang it to Daryl Hannah at their wedding. I saw him in concert in Hawaii. He got up right after the last song, no thank you, no nothing. Left me with a bad taste
@@lawreence13
He's a Total Jerk in person and real life.
@@barbarap6851 Is that true about the wedding? My god.
@@lawreence13 man I hate hearing sad shit like that always thought he was cool & good but now if it's true then he's just another dick .how do we separate the music from the man?
An Old man remembering why he loves her and missing his youth. Want to relive it all over again.
My favorite Neil Young song is "Long May You Run". He is Canadian and performed that song at the opening ceremonies of the Calgary Olympics.
It was actually the Closing Ceremonies of the Vancouver Games (2010) that Neil played "Long May You Run". The Calgary Games (1988) had Ian Tyson and Gordon Lightfoot doing a duet of "Four Strong Winds" and "Alberta Bound" during the Opening Ceremonies. k.d. lang performed at the Closing Ceremonies of the Calgary Games.
Neil Youngs "like A Hurricane " is my favorite. His guitar solo is psychedelic.
Magical song makes this old man tear up
Great tune. I think for your next Neil song, you would enjoy "Only Love Can Break Your Heart". It's one of his earliest solo tunes.
My favorite of all of his.
@@barbaramaunder4847 ❤
Have you heard Neil's "After the Goldrush" as sung by the Trio (Dolly, Emmy Lou, Linda) ?
Just beautiful. I believe there is a YT video of Trio performing this on Letterman.
The late great Nicolette Larson and Neil’s sister Astrid on backup vocals.
Amber, the drummer was Kenny Buttrey, a seasoned Nashville musician who also played with Bob Dylan, Elvis Presley, Gordon Lightfoot and a long list of other artists. He was part of Neil's Stray Gators backup band, so you would have heard him on Heart of Gold and Old Man as well. He died of cancer in 2004 at the age of 59.
This is one of my favorite songs by Neil Young 🌕😊 I’m glad you picked it !
I'm not much of a Neil Young fan, but man do I adore "Harvest Moon." This song is so lovely.
Everything Neil Young sings is magic.
This is one of my favorite albums.
You need some electric Neil, like Rockin' in the Free World, Like a Hurricane, Powderfinger, or Cortez the Killer. The last three from his Live Rust album are superb.
Can't go wrong with Neil young, wether it be with Buffalo Springfield, CSN&Y or just him and his band Crazy Horse. Thanks again Jay& Amber for being my favorite channel.
This song was my mother's request at my step dad's funeral. My brother played and sang it. Every time I hear it I tear up. It's so beautiful ❤
My favorite Neil Young song is "After the Gold Rush". Is one of his earliest solo works. Definitely worth listening to.
One of the most beautiful love songs ever! This is what life is about. Jay and Amber... put yourselves in this song.
Love Neil Young. Always excellent songs from him! This one is just so soothing….it’s in a movie called Eat, Pray and Love and it’s such a BEAUTIFUL scene. Newlyweds dancing. It’s just a beautiful song. ❤❤❤
Neil Young's "Sugar Mountain," about the loss of youth, is a good early one, which his friend and fellow Canadian, Joni Mitchell, responded to by writing "The Circle Game."
This is such a beautiful song. His voice is mesmerizing. Linda Ronstadt once described it as “his eerie, prairie-wind howl of a voice-a boy soprano fuel-injected with testosterone”! What a great description of the gorgeous sound that comes from this man’s soul. 🌺✌️
Absolutely love the setting of the Mountain House. I used to go there and absolutely soak up the vibe. The gentleman with the broom was the GM of the restaurant at that time. Neil's music is timeless and that band, in particular, was loaded with talent, including the studio backup singers, Larry Cragg, Linda Ronstadt, and the lovely, Nicolette Larson. This song always brings me back to that time, living in Northern California, that amazing drive from San Mateo to Half Moon Bay and the Mountain Hose nestled at the top of that ridge. Beautiful!
That's GEENA DAVIS, of Thelma & Louise fame singing along with Linda Ronstadt, not Nicolette Larsen. Geena is gorgeous.
Heard this at the Mountain House on the road to the coast. It was autumn and this will forever be my autumn music.
Neil is an ICON!!🤘My favorite song of his😊
Cortez The Killer is another great Neil Young song to check out.
This is my favorite Neil Young song. Always makes me smile.
Always brings a bitter sweet tear...
OK, now you're back on the track with the all time greats, from the best era of all time, the late 60s to the mid-70s!!
The great iconic Neil Young.
Such a beautiful song! 🥰
I love Neil Young and this is just one of his many great songs. ❤
Can't go wrong with the Canucks. Neil and Joni my favorites.
Now try Young's Like a Hurricane, Helpless, or Down by the River.
The title track from the album of the same name, Harvest Moon is kind of an unofficial sequel to Young's 1972's album Harvest. The two albums share many of the same guest musicians. The album Harvest Moon went Gold in January of 1993, Platinum in February of 1993, and multi-platinum in 1997.
In keeping with the rural motif of this song, let us not forget that Neil Young has also been an outspoken advocate for environmental issues and small farmers, as demonstrated by his having co-founded Farm Aid, the benefit concert, in 1985.
The moon is a big deal to Neil Young. It shows up in 28 of his songs, and he uses it to guide him. Industry folks know that he is more likely to take on a project if it coincides with a full moon. In a 2005 interview with Harp, he explained: "Before there was organized religion, there was the moon. The Indians knew about the moon. Pagans followed the moon. I've followed it for as long as I can remember, and that's just my religion. I'm not a practicing anything, I don't have a book that I have to read. It can be dangerous working in a full moon atmosphere, because if there are things that are going to go wrong, they can really go wrong. But that's great, especially for rock 'n' roll."
(Songfacts.com)
He has publicly said he follows Wicca.
It was difficult to not fall apart upon hearing this song after my husband passed. But now, it gives me sweet comfort.
It makes me happy to see your reactions to these great songs. Peace.
One of my favourite songs. It is lovely song.
YES! Bought this CD when it first came out, and I have to say I think it is Neil Young’s finest music, and that’s saying a lot. Harvest Moon is what heaven must sound like. ❤
No its not Ragged Glory and Everybody Knows This is Nowhere much better...face it only wimpy top 40 kiddies go for this
@@DENVEROUTDOORMAN Hey, my favorite Neil Young songs are Cinnamon Girl and Down By The River; I said this was his finest music. I must say that you sound like a 9 year old girl, a far cry from an “Outdoorsman”. Have a good day.
Should listen to "Cowgirl in the Sand" or "Down by the River" next
Neil's acostic music is truly awesome and heartfelt. One of the few artists who can sit on a stage by himself with an acoustic guitar and harmonica and put on an awesome show. But you gotta check out his harder electric stuff as well. Cinnamon Girl, Rockin in the Free World, Mr. Soul, Cortez the killer, Ohio, Carry On. (both with Crosby, Stills & Nash)
This is one of my top fav songs of all time. I was a kid when it came out, very much swept away by it and Neil young....SWOON 💘💘 A great romanic ballad.
I was fortunate to see Neil Young at a farm aid concert. Love his music. One of my favorites is Cinnamon Girl.
Jay & Amber - that's the one and only Linda Ronstadt providing background vocals in this song. She doesn't appear in the video, but the audio track is her.
One of Niel Young's song everyone needs to hear is The Needle and the Damage Done
I love this song. Love anything Neil Young.
*More great songs by Young yet to try are: My My, Hey Hey__Cinnamon Girl__Southern Man__The Needle and the Damage Done__Only You Can Break Your Heart.*
Married over 30 years and still dancing and in love with my guy. Him 72, me 65.
💕✌ this is one of my favorite Neil Young songs, thanks for reacting to it! I think you guys would also like the tribute that he did to his dog Old King 🐶💚
Beautiful song! Can't go wrong with any Neil Young songs. Try Southern Man or Cinnamon girl next. Great reaction!!!
Neil has such a large catalog of great music. Solo , crosby skills nash or with crazy horse. I would recommend Cowgirl in the Sand, Helpless, Down by the River, Southern man and the Needle and the Damage done.
Another great Canadian, love him would also sing with Crosby Stills and Nash🥰
My favorite of his songs is Like a Hurricane. Guitar riffs are incredible. Hope you check it out soon. Thanks 😊
I'm 64 and an old rocker but I fell in love with this Neil Young song. It's sweet. He is the grandfather of the grunge movement. Rockin' In The Free world, is grungy, but he has a nice mix of styles.
Neil Young’s “Pocahontas” is one of the most beautiful and heartbreaking songs ever written… Please give it a shot. ❤
GREAT song! LOVE that song!!
Amber you would love listening to Neil Young sing “4 Strong Winds” At the Farm Aid concert, live at Farm Aid.
He plays the harmonica and is joined by another person who also plays the harmonica and together it sounds so beautiful. Willie Nelson also joins them on his guitar.
One of the most tender, romantic songs ever. I need someone to listen to this with. Or better yet, someone to slow dance to this with.
My favorite Neil Young songs are 'Heart of Gold' and 'Helpless' (although Helpless was actually done when he was part of CSNY.)
This song is a love letter.
This is my secong favourite Neil song, my favourite being the Oscar nominated "Philadelphia", from the film of the same name. Tragically and hauntingly gorgeous.
Oh my goodness guys really love this song ❤️ this is something you can sit by the bond fire and listen to this song around the fire and vibe and relax and injoy with friends and family in the summer time and fall time
I thought of Neil Young as a grumpy, eccentric genius until I found out about his personal struggles with physical diseases all his life. I have nothing but respect and awe for his talent and accomplishments and in spite of the tragedy of his sons CB.
Love this song
"After the Gold Rush" is my favourite album of his
One of the most romantic songs ever.
Neil Young could also go hard with the electric guitar like in SOUTHERN MAN and ROCKIN IN THE FREE WORLD!
Yes, a tribute to his wife, Pegi, whom he's dancing with. And that's Linda Ronstadt on backing vocals, as well.
This restaurant is/was on Skyline Blvd. His
band used to hang out there quite a bit.Lots of the extras in this video were locals. It was a great rustic bar and restaurant. I also proposed to my future wife there. Wonderful times,
I used to live on Summit Rd off of hwy 17 in the Santa Cruz mountains We would take Summit all the way down to the Mountain House. Beautiful drive plus the restaurant has extremely good food but very $$$$...not the tavern it looks like from the outside. Neil lived down the road. 👍❤🤙
👋 from 🇨🇦.
Neil Young. You two have no idea. I have 78 Neil Young recordings. One of Neil's most powerful songs is, The Needle and the Damage Done, from the Harvest Album which Neil spontaneously decided to record songs he had been playing while on tour.
Neil founded another band called Crazy Horse before this time and this song was written about one of the Crazy Horse Band Members. Neil's akso the Godfather of "Grunge", and for most of the last decade he's been touring and recording with a band called, The Promise of the Real, which was formed by two of Willy Nelson's sons. They said they had to learn 125 songs by Neil, and be ready to play them live; in no particular order. He's on tour with The Promise of the Real right now I think.
Lots of Neil Young songs to pick from. Enjoy!
Lots of Nanaimo Bar Joy and Happiness from 🇨🇦🎶✌🥁🎸😎👀
Take a listen to Like A Hurricane an incredible rocker!!!! With wonderful lyrics!!!!
This is probably my favorite Neil Young song. I love the brushed snare also!
The most romantic song I have ever heard. I fall in love with my wife all over again whenever I listen to it
Probably my favorite song by him.
Love Neil Young. Try Rocking In The Free World for a rocking hard edged song from him.
Another Canadian success story. Love you Neil! ❤ 🇨🇦
Like a hurricane by Neil is a must ,the guitar solo is awesome you will love it,enjoy .
This my favourite Neil Young song ❤
Cinnamon girl !!! It was a great concert in 85 , opened with this song
Love Neil Young! Powderfinger is a great and deep song! Check it out guys. Thanks
Great 50th annivsary song. " Because I'm still in love with you, I wanna see was you dance again'.So aweet.
Still waiting on April wine 🍷 I like two rock video come on now thank you ☺️
My sweetheart and I had been together 20 years, when the year after they legalized marriage for us we were at a dinner party at a friend's house and this song came on (which I had always loved) and, I don't know what got into me (the full moon?), but I dropped to my knee and popped the question. I am still a sucker for the harder stuff (I'll argue til I die that Neil's one-note guitar solo in Cinnamon Girl is sheer playful brilliance,) but some of the softer stuff like this and Sugar Mountain do something lovely to my heart.
