    The menstrual cycle is defined by the regular, repetitive monthly occurrence of ovulation throughout a female’s reproductive life, which results from a complex feedback system involving the hypothalamus, pituitary, ovary, and uterus. The cycle has two components: the ovarian cycle, which consists of the follicular phase, ovulation, and the luteal phase; and the uterine cycle, which consists of menstruation, proliferative phase, and secretory phase. Both of these components are coordinated by hormones: follicle stimulating hormone (FSH), estrogen, luteinizing hormone (LH), and progesterone. Several different types of birth control are available to women looking to prevent pregnancy or to regulate their menstrual cycle. One of the most the most widely used type is the oral tablet also known as the birth control pill. Hormonal birth control pills contain synthetic forms of estrogen and progesterone which regulate ovulation, thicken cervical mucus, or prevent implantation of the fertilized egg. Eexamples of agents used in birth control products are synthetic derivatives of estrogen: Ethinyl Estradiol and Mestranol; and synthetic derivatives of progesterone: Desogestrel, Drospirenone, Levonorgestrel, Medroxyprogesterone, Norgestrel, Norgestimate, and Norethindrone.

    If one of progesterone's function in the menstrual cycle is to enrich the endometrium in preparation for ovum implantation, how is its mode of action as a contraceptive to cause endometrial atrophy/thinning?

    • @SpeedPharmacology
      @SpeedPharmacology  Před rokem +2

      While progesterone in the menstrual cycle typically prepares the endometrium for implantation, synthetic progestins can have a different impact. Continuous exposure to high levels of progestins, as seen in certain contraceptive methods like progestin-only pills, can lead to endometrial atrophy or thinning. This thinning effect is thought to be a result of progestins altering the normal growth patterns of the endometrial tissue, reducing its thickness and vascularity.

    Hi please answer my question. So I knew my acne was hormonal as I’d get painful breakouts right before my menstrual. When I went on the combined birth control my skin became much better but now I’m off it and my breakouts are coming back. How can I stop these hormonal breakouts for good ? I know a lot of people who don’t deal with hormonal acne. I just need help.

    • @aimees4990
      @aimees4990 Před 2 lety +1

      Try to reduce your stress, exercise, change your diet (limit chocolate, potato chips, sugar, dairy. Drink lots of water daily. And get on a good skin care routine! 😊 At least wash your face twice and day, and use a oil free moisturizer and sunscreen. Also use products with either benzoyl peroxide or salycilic acid as a spot treatment. Or there are moisturizers and toners with it as well that can help prevent new breakouts. Good luck!!

    • @coffeelover3467
      @coffeelover3467 Před rokem

      If you do not want to continue being on the pill to prevent your hormonal breakouts, all you can do is just try to have good skincare routine and watch what you eat as the other person replied, but as it is hormonal, it might not go away without being on the pill.
