  • In this video Sean gives us a review and walk around of the new shop truck! It's a 2017 GMC Sierra 1500. This truck came equipped with several really cool options that make it a rare find. First off, this truck comes with a 5.3 V8 eco tech gas motor. This truck a Z71, Elevation Edition, and Kodiak Edition. If you are unfamiliar with the Kodiak Edition, it was made for the Canadian market. Fun fact, this was originally a Canadian truck that made it to the US. The equipment doesn't stop there, this truck is also equipped with the max trailering package. The max trailering packages allows this truck to tow a lot more than the typical Sierra. It also comes with an integrated trailer break controller, and factory towing mirrors. The best part about this truck is the combination of the large crew cab and the 6.5-foot bed. That combination is actually pretty rare itself and made this a desirable truck for the brothers.

    I have a 2018 GMC Sierra SLE configured just like this one. At 113k miles and I have had the following problems:
    Water Pump (bearing squeal) $350.00 approx,
    Oil Pressure Control solenoid. Required replacing Oil Pump. $2800.00 Ouch!
    Rear Diff Seal $250.00
    Transmission Temp Thermostat $175.00. It stuck closed and almost fried my transmission..
    None of this was under warranty. No lifter problems yet but I also installed the Range AFM Delete. Best $250.00 I have spent on this truck so far. Eliminates that annoying harmonic drone that you get during cylinder deactivation and hopefully extends lifter life. Overall I like my truck but the oil pump solenoid went at 62k miles. GM did nothing to help out warranty wise. Very disappointing and will probable go Tundra next time.

      Wow, sounds like you got unlucky. Before this truck, I had a 2014 Silverado that was down right a lemon. It was unbelievable how bad that truck was. This one has been leaps and bounds better.

      @@TheBrothersWorkshop I have... All of the usual recalls. The breaks went out on it completely about a year ago. The AC problem was fixed, an oil coolant line was fixed. that was a $2200 job at the dealer. Had the radiator replaced very early on because it was leaking. I do like the truck, but it is paid off, and I am starting to smell burnt oil sometimes.

      It's unfortunate how expensive that stuff can become. Those are also much harder projects than we tackle here on this channel. Believe me, I would have done that stuff myself if it was easier.

    Love your videos can't wait to see more. I have a 2016 Chevy silverado 1500 LT Z71. Looks the exact same wheels, color, interior etc. I love my Chevy but these generations do have a lot of faults. I deleted the AFM can't afford to have the lifters go out not worth the money. I put a leveling kit on it and upgraded the bump stops to compensate for the sag when towing.

      Henk! No need for a truck?! Everyone who's into DIY projects could use a truck!! lol I remember using my small sedan to haul lumber around and building materials. I'm definitely stoked that's a thing of the past.

      @@TheBrothersWorkshop well I would like to have a big truck, and prefer the same as you have 😊 In Holland the are extremely expensive and also the taxes are huge. We have to pay for weight of a car and the type of fuel they use. Also the price of fuel at the moment is sky high. The most people in Holland have a stationwagon or SUV with a trailer, that’s the way we do our DIY 😂

    I have a 2017 GMC Sierra All Terrain X, all blacked out like yours. March will be 6 years and only 38k. You’re right about the 5k-10k as soon as you drive off but I saved and planned to keep this baby until it doesn’t run 😅. Much appreciated! 🤙🙌 If you're looking for an 18. Make sure all of the recalls have been worked on. Check the floors to make sure they are not moist. There is a few leaks in these trucks. One from the third break light and the other from the shark fin antenna. If you're looking at a truck with multiple owners that is also a red flag. Otherwise check out our video on the 2014 and make sure you have none of those issues!! The video is linked below for you! 👇

    Greetings from Canada.
    Dealers have special offers here. We can rent a truck for 24months at a very low price. They just want it to be considered "used" and to be able to sell it in the US where their profit margin is higher

    • @bounce12
      @bounce12 Před 3 měsíci

      Yup only if the vin is American made. Mexican made is dramatically cheaper. And most guys who ship trucks won’t even look at a Mexican made truck

    • @bounce12
      @bounce12 Před 3 měsíci

      I heard it’s because 2 reasons. 1 being the tariffs imposed on Mexico by trump and the quality control when assembled. I dunno but it’s 100% true that you get far less for a vin with the number 3 if you can sell it at all that is

    5-10k loss value off the lot parking? Where are you buying your trucks?

    • @TheBrothersWorkshop
      @TheBrothersWorkshop  Před 2 lety +1

      If your talking about the current market, it's not as extreme. Due to the chip shortage the market has changed. Typically there is a large loss in value once you purchase a vehicle. This is because the vehicle is no longer new. By purchasing a used vehicle with low mileage, you will save money. This can be seen in a savings of several thousand dollars. In a normal market, if you try to sell your vehicle back to a dealer or a private person, you will not get full retail.

    • @BlueApe57
      @BlueApe57 Před 2 lety

    Delete the 4cylinder cut back do not buy one made in Mexico the fin leaks on the roof. The ac compressors fail and throttle response was bad on my 2015 rally 2 Chevy I bought brand new. I sold it in 2021 for $32,000 with 66,000kms on her and if she had the Mexican vin I would have gotten $24,000 from the same company that bought her off me so beware of the vin as it’s the biggest thing when buying anything for big money now. Number 1 on the vin your laughing number3 run away unless it’s super cheap
